2010 World Series Preview: Texas Rangers vs San Francisco Giants

Rangers world series tickets

The Texas Rangers high power offense is World Series Bound!

It’s official, with the Giants 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday night, San Francisco will advance to the World Series for the first time since 2002 and face the Texas Rangers.  The Rangers are an even more inspiring story as they not only won their first playoff series in team history this year but they now have a shot at a World Series Title.  Neither the Giants nor Rangers were expected to make it all the way to the World Series with heavily favored veteran teams such and the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies in the way- but they did and did so convincingly.  Now, the two will meet in the World Series.

The American League Champion Texas Rangers have been an offensive powerhouse for the better part of a decade.   The middle of the order can flat out mash with MVP candidate Josh Hamilton, Vladimir Guerrero, and Nelson Cruz cemented in the middle of the order.  The Rangers were 5th in baseball in runs and ranked near the top in the AL in stolen bases and OPS.  The Rangers can simply hit.  The question with the Rangers has always been about pitching.  The acquisition of Cliff Lee and the emergence of Colby Lewis and CJ Wilson have certainly been the key to the Rangers success.  To top it off, the Rangers have one of the best young closers in all of baseball with Neftali Feliz.

The San Francisco Giants have had the opposite problem.  The have had one of the best pitching staffs in baseball all season long but their dismal offense wasn’t able to produce runs.  Some key moves to acquire Pat Burrell and Cody Ross, coupled with the arrival of Buster Posey and Aubrey Huff  made the offense viable .  However, the key to the Giants success has been starting pitching.  Although Cliff Lee has been dominant, Tim Lincecum has been right there with him.  Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, and Madison Bumgarner have also been impressive.   The bullpen for the Giants hasn’t been quite as good but in game 6 they were able to shutout the Phillies for 7 innings to preserve the win.

No matter who you are rooting for in the 2010 World Series it is certain to be an exciting matchup.  Check out the World Series schedule below to play your viewing parties and/or your trip to the game.

Ladainian Tomlinson giving New York Jets #1 rushing offense

Ladainian Tomlinson has experienced a renaissance year thus far in 2010 with the New York Jets showing the explosive speed and rapid cuts that made him one of the best back in the league a few years back. The San Diego Chargers let Tomlinson go after seeing a decline in production the last two years. The decline was attributed to various injuries in Tomlinson’s eyes. The Chargers used a first round pick to draft Ryan Matthews from Fresno State and view him as a featured running back in their offensive scheme. Darren Sproles is also used as a change of pace back. Thus far this season the Chargers are averaging 124 yards per game which is ranks twelfth in the NFL. Matthews has not been an impact player thus far due to injuries and lack of carries.

Ladanian Tomlinson’s rushed for 1110 yards in 2008 in 16 games with a yards per carry average of 3.8. In 2009 he rushed for 730 yards with a yards per carry average of 3.3 in 14 games. Thru five games in 2010 he has rushed for 435 yards and has a yards per carry average of 5.7. The New York Jets rank first in the league in rushing yards per game, almost seventeen yards higher than the Atlanta Falcons. Tomlinson get the majority of carries for the Jets as Shonne Greene spells him with runs inside the tackles mostly. The Jets offense will be tough for any defense considering the versatility to either run or pass effectively. Since Mark Sanchez has not turned the ball over thus far this season the Jets have been putting up over 25 points a game since their week one loss against Baltimore. They are very talented and deep on offense and overall one of the best teams in the league.

2010-11 NBA Western Conference Northwest Division Preview

Oklahoma City Thunder Tickets

Kevin Durant and the OKC Thunder will be looking to take their game to the next level this season!

The NBA’s Western Conference, Northeast Division has to be considered one of the best with 4 of the 5 teams likely headed to the playoffs once again.  The Kevin Durant led OKC Thunder, will likely lead the pack but will be challenged by the Denver Nuggets (if Carmelo stays) and a young Portland Trail Blazer team.  Even the dependable Utah Jazz could end up winning this division.

#1 Oklahoma City Thunder

Additions: Cole Aldrich, Morris Peterson, Daequan Cook

Subtractions: Etan Thomas

The Oklahoma City Thunder seemingly came out of nowhere last year and be a dominant force in the NBA.  Kevin Durant is a beast and will only get better.  Fans in OKC are also excited to see what young talented players like Serge Ibaka and James Harden can bring to the table with increased minutes.

Ticket Demand:  B

The OKC Thunder are an exciting young team with a NBA superstar in Kevin Durant.  Ticket demand would be an A+ is this team was in a major market that had a history with the NBA.  Be that as it may, OKC fans should be intrigued by this team.

#2 Denver Nuggets

Additions: Al Harrington, Shelden Williams

Subtractions: Malik Allen, Joey Graham, Johan Petro

As long as Carmelo Anthony is still a member, the Denver Nuggets will be one of the top teams in the Western Conference.  Along with “melo, the Nuggets also have solid pieces in place with Nene, Harrington, and Chauncey Billups.  That said, the core of this team is not getting any younger and are likely on the decline.

Ticket Demand:  B+

The Nuggets have one of the most exciting players in the NBA in Carmelo Anthony (for the time being) but Denver is not exactly the best basketball market.

#3 Portland Trail Blazers

Additions: Wesley Matthews

Subtractions: Juwan Howard, Martell Webster, Luke Babbitt, Armon Johnson

The Portland Trail Blazers could be one of the teams that improve the most this season.  They have one of the best guards in the NBA with Brandon Roy to go along with a stellar power forward in LaMarcus Aldridge.  If Greg Oden can stay healthy and live up to his enormous potential, the NBA Finals are not out of the question.

Ticket Demand:  B+

The Trail Blazers have a young and exciting team in a fairly large market. If the Blazers take a step forward this year as we expect, tickets could be in big demand.

#4 Utah Jazz

Additions: Al Jefferson, Raja Bell, Francisco Elson

Subtractions: Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver, Wesley Matthews, Kosta Koufos

It seems the Utah Jazz lose key players year after year but somehow Jerry Sloan keeps putting together playoff caliber teams.  Sloan should once again be able to surround Deron Williams and Andrei Kirilenko with a solid support casting that will once again be consistently good.

Ticket Demand:  B-

The Utah Jazz have perhaps the best point guard in the game with Deron Williams but Salt Lake City is a subpar basketball market and are not expected to contend for a NBA title.

#5 Minnesota Timberwolves

Additions:  Wesley Johnson, Michael Beasley, Martell Webster, Luke Ridnour

Subtractions: Ramon Sessions, Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes

The Timberwolves have been cellar dwellars since Kevin Garnett left the team and its hard to imagine things changing much this season.  That said, the Timberwolves acquired former 1st round pick Michael Beasley and if he ever turns out to be the player everyone thought he could be they future might be just a little brighter.  Apparently has cleaned up his act and is more focused – only time will tell.

Ticket Demand:  C+

Minnesota hasn’t had much to be excited about in some time and that is clearly reflected in their ticket demand.  If Beasley can become a star, things might look up a bit but the Timberwolves will have a hard time giving away tickets.
