The Washington Nationals 2009 #1 draft pick Stephen Strasburg will make his Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday June 8th against the Pittsburg Pirates at Nationals Park in DC. The former San Diego State standout has been dominant since he was draft just last year and many felt he should have made the big league club out of spring training. The Nationals were cautious with their top prospect and assigned him to Double-A Harrisburg to start the 2010 season.
In 5 starts in AA, Strasburg went 3-1 with a miniscule 1.63 ERA and racked up 27 K’s in just 22 innings of work. After breezing through the AA competition, the Nationals promoted Stephen to Triple-A Syracuse where he continued his masterful work. At AAA, Strasburg went 3-1 with a 1.28 ERA while whiffing 33 batters in 28 innings of work. Many compare Strasburg’s debut (and stuff) to that of another young pitching phenom Dwight Gooden.
