Guns N’ Roses 2011 Tour

Oh, whoa, Oh, Sweet Child o’ Mine!  Guns N’ Roses is going on tour again!  The fall 2011 tour marks the first Guns N’ Roses concerts that will take place in the United States for their Chinese Democracy lengthy tour.  The tour has been going on since 2006!  The tour has been performed internationally irregularly over the years and even toured Canada in early 2010. That part of the tour was plagued with front man Axl Rose’s antics and idiosyncrasies.  Hopefully the band has it together now!

Initially, the US tour was not so grand and their tour continues to grow since the concerts and onsales were announced earlier this month.  Expect the tour to continue to expand.

Leading up to the America leg of the tour, GNR will complete a two-week tour of South America and a four-date run of Mexico.

Currently, Axl Rose is the only remaining original member of Guns N’ Roses that still performs with the band.  The other senior most member of the group is keyboardist Dizzy Reed who started with them back in 1990.

GNR got its start way back in 1985 in Los Angeles, CA.  Under their belt are six studio albums, three EP’s and one live album.  A very fitting description of the mid-to-late 80’s and early 90’s years Guns n’ Roses has them described as “they brought forth a hedonistic rebelliousness and revived the punk attitude-driven hard rock scene, reminiscent of the early Rolling Stones.”  Their two most celebrated albums, the 1991 albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II debuted on the two highest spots on the Billboard 200 and have sold a total 14 million copies in the United States alone and 35 million worldwide.

Bob Seger Tour- Fall 2011 Leg

Bob Seger announced 13 dates for fall tour, opening Nov. 2 in Ypsilanti, MI.   This comes four months after successfully completing the first leg of his 2011 tour, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.

The fall leg of the tour will kick off November 2nd in the 7,000-seat Convocation Center at Eastern Michigan University.   This stop is particularly close to Seger as he spent much of his childhood in Ann Arbor, MI.  May 28th is officially Bob Seger Day in Michigan as proclaimed by governor, Rick Snyder, this year for his more than 50 years of sharing his celebrated musical talents with fans all over the world. His tour will also include stops at the Ford Center in Evansville, IN for its first ever concert and a December 1st show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

There are more dates to come, whereupon Seger eventually making his way to the West Coast.

Public onsales for his shows will start September 17th and another round of tickets will be released on September 24th.   Prices have not yet been set.

The tour announcement is part of a big stretch for Seger, whose remastered concert albums “Live Bullet” and “Nine Tonight” are set to premiere Tuesday, September 13th with restored artwork and a special CD and T-shirt combination box.

Seger drew his early inspiration from rockers like Little Richard, Elvis Presley and James Brown.  Some of his most popular songs include “Night Moves”, “Turn the Page”,  and “Like a Rock.”  His career has spanned over fifty years and his signature song “Old Time Rock and Roll” was named one of the Songs of the century in 2001.  Bob Seger finally earned his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Smashing Pumpkins Kaleidyscope Tour 2011

The Smashing Pumpkins will be taking to the road in late 2011 for the Kaleidyscope Tour.  Original front man, Bill Corgan, will lead the group one again, as he has done for the last 20+ years.  He is the only original member of the 90’s alternative rock group.  The other most senior member of the group, Jeff Schroeder, has been with the band since 2007.  Joining those two are drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Nicole Fiorentino.  The original band members include James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, D’arcy Wretzky and Melissa Auf der Maur.

The Kaleidyscope Tour will feature songs both new and old from the band’s multi-decade history.  The Tour will pass through most of the major U.S. concert scenes and starts out in LA on October 5th and concludes the 22nd of the same month in Upper Darby, PA.  A new album called, Oceania, will be released after the first songs are heard in November 2011.  Corgan calls this album an “album within an album” as its part of the 44-track Kaleidyscope concept album.  Individual songs from Kaleidyscope have been released for free over the internet since December 2009.

Other big things in the works for Pumpkins include an entire remaster and reissue of the entire album catalog.  The releases will start with Gish, Siamese Dream, and Pisces Iscariot in late 2011.[ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, The Aeroplane Flies High, and Adore will be released in 2012, and finishing out, Machina/The Machines of God and the yet commercially unreleased Machina II/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music are expected to be combined, remixed and released in 2013.

Happy Hump Day to you!

The trend for this weekend is Country Music!!  In particular interest are the Jason Aldean shows.  I can’t begin to say how many queries I’ve fielded about these two particular shows specifically.  This man’s shows are hot!  Fans are anxious to get their hands on tickets, ideally, lawn seats.

The American Idol shows also have a heavy fan following.  Past season’s winner country music singer, Scotty McCreary, headlines the show. His other top ten performers; Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk, Casey Abrams, Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald, Pia Toscano, Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia.

You should be used to seeing Kenny Chesney, ZBB and Keith Urban on the list by now.  American fans want to soak up the last bits of summer while they are able.  Country music should continue to be popular into early fall.

The Licking River Festival is a weekend of Americana/roots music,  food and drinks out in Kentucky which is big with the camping crowd.  The Festival will feature Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and 20 other performers.

Two MLS soccer games made the list this weekend.  The Colorado Rapids at the Chicago Fire’s home turf and the Sounders against the Crew.  Interesting point of interest; the Sounder’s majority owner is Hollywood producer Joe Roth, and its minority owners are Adrian Hanauer, Paul Allen and Drew Carey. Keep your eye on other MLS soccer games.  The MLS season goes through October and the games are usually well priced!

Top Weekend Events August 19-21

Hello Wednesday!

First and foremost, I’d like to extend my condolences to the families affected by the collapsed stage at the Sugarland show at the Indiana State Fair.  You’re in our thoughts!

Not to be totally glossed over, but there do seem to be a few other state fair concerts on the list for this week.  While last week’s concert was surely a tragedy, it was a sad, but extremely rare occurrence.  Train and Lady Antebellum will both be performing at the Iowa and Indiana State Fairs respectively.

Other county music stars will be hitting the stage this weekend with huge fan interest.  Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band are high again on the list with their summery sound.  Ms. Taylor Swift is once again on the list as well with her Speak Now tour which continues and will continue to draw a lot of interest.  Rascal Flatts, while always popular, seems to be getting even more popular these days.

Justin Beiber’s better half, Selena Gomez, takes the top spot for the weekend.   Selena Gomez and The Scene (the rest of her band) recently took home accolades from the RIAA for their song “Who Says” which went platinum.  The girl can sing!  Her days on Disney’s the Wizards of Wavery Place, dating the Bieb as well as her throngs of pre-tween fans can’t hurt either.

Old rivals the Chicago Cubs vs. the St. Louis Cardinals face off again this weekend.  Both teams have die-hard loyal fans, but sadly, the Cardinals have more World Series wins over the Cubbies.

And finally, once again the MLS has made another appearance on the top weekend events list.  The Houston Dynamo Soccer team will take on the Real Salt Lake.  Keep your eye out for MLS games!
