Top Weekend Events 10/07/11 – 10/09/11

Woo hoo…it’s practically the weekend.

I think, foreseeable future, the Top Weekend Events list should be renamed as The Top College Football Games this Weekend list.  Although, it should be noted and highlighted that a concert made the list this weekend.  Taylor Swift’s Dallas show has attracted much fan interest and people are still clamoring for tickets.

Of note for college football this weekend especially is the Georgia vs. Tennessee game.  This is a big, big game in the SEC East.  If Georgia wins this game, their game with Florida on 10/29 will be a deciding one.  It could potentially decide who wins the division.  Georgia is expected to win this game, but only by a slim margin.

Last weekend, Auburn’s win over South Carolina surprised many; however, neither Auburn nor Arkansas has much of a chance at winning the SEC West title.  That title is pretty firmly in the LSU Tiger’s hands.

The Texas Oklahoma game should be exciting, even though it seems like it’s received ZERO media attention.  Texas is currently ranked 11th in the country, and no one seems to notice.  Oklahoma is expected to win this game, but if Texas were to pull through, that would be huge!

Nebraska vs. Ohio is only considered a big game since it’s a Big 10 matchup.  The OSU Buckeyes have had a pretty poor showing lately, and it shouldn’t be of any surprise if they lose to the Cornhuskers.

And even though Texas Tech may take an early lead, the Texas A&M Aggies should be expected to overthrow the Red Raiders easily.

It’s almost that time of year again….college football season!!  This year’s teams are already lining up, getting ready and selling tickets quickly!  Fan loyalty is huge in college football, so that means that devoted fans are will to pay top dollar to see their teams compete.  TiqIQ, a ticket market intelligence site, comprised a list of the highest priced games, to date, for the whole season.

The ticket prices below are from a list generated by TiqIQ that are comprised of the largest tickets resellers including StubHub, ebay and Ticketnetwork.  These are not face value ticket prices.

10.) LSU vs. Alabama, November 5th.  Avg. price $420.93.  Both ranked in Top 5, starting out.

9.) Florida vs. Georgia, October 29th.  Avg. price $423.83 This game has been labeled the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” and is played in Jacksonville, FL every year. This will be the 90th meeting between the two schools and Georgia has come out victorious slightly more than half the time.  This is notable because the Gators have won 17 out of the last 20 games.

8.) Georgia vs. Boise State, September 3rd.   Avg. price $437.91. At Georgia Dome and will draw a huge hometown crowd.  Last year was Georgia’s first losing season since 1996, they’re eager to prove their worth once again.

7.) Notre Dame vs. Michigan, September 10th.  Avg. price $457.07. This series is a classic, played every year since 1978.  This is also an exciting game because it will be the first night game in Michigan Stadium’s history and both teams will be wearing throwback jerseys.

6.) Texas A&M vs. Arkansas, October 1st.   Avg. price $461.19.  Always rivals.  This game will be played at Cowboys stadium.

5.) Ohio State vs. Nebraska, October 8th.  Avg. price $462.97. Nebraska is the new kid in the conference, so this is OSU’s first Big Ten visit to Memorial Stadium which holds the title for the most consecutive sellouts: 311.  The last game not to sell out was in 1962!

4.) Texas vs. Oklahoma, October 8th.  Avg. price: $464.04.  The “Red River Rivalry” lives on!

3.) USC vs. Notre Dame, October 22nd.  Avg. price $509.48.  This rivalry started in 1926, and USC has won the last 8 of 10 games.

2.) Alabama vs. Auburn, November 26th. Avg. price $514.96.  The so-called “Iron Bowl” pits the two in-state teams against each other.  This is also the last regular season game for the two teams.  Alabama was last year’s National Champion and had an undefeated season.  The stakes are high for this game.

1.) LSU vs. Oregon, September 3rd.  Avg. price $560.23.  This game, like the Texas A&M vs. Arkansas, will also be played at Cowboys Stadium.  USA Today ranked Oregon 3rd in the opening season and LSU as 4th.
