Top Weekend Events 8/12-14

The weekend is almost here, hooray!  It’s felt like a long week already.

The top half of the list is comprised of nationally recognized top acts.  Kid Rock has been absent from the top weekend event list for a while, but he’s finally making a comeback with a hometown concert.  Katy Perry holds the second spot on the list with her Teenage Dream tour.  Her most recent hit songs “Firework” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” are still blazing on the airways and every talent show that’s on TV right now.  Seriously, her songs have been featured on America’s Got Talent, The Voice, So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) and others all within the past few weeks.  Her song popularity rivals Lady Gaga.

Britney Spears’ Toronto show was pinged a number of times in this top weekend list.  This is a HOT concert.  Her Femme Fatale show is continuing to draw huge crowds.

Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band (ZBB) seem like they’re the official voices of summer with their great summer songs like “Knee Deep” and “Flip Flop Summer”.  They pretty much scream hanging out around a campfire, drinking beer and hanging out with your friends.

Some of the lesser known names to hit the list include country music artist Jamey Johnson.  He is also the supporting act for Kid Rock’s 2011 Born Free tour and accompanying Rock on a duet or more most of the time.  His most popular song “In Color” peaked at #9 on the Country Music Charts in 2009.   Alison Krauss is a blue-grass-country singer, songwriter and fiddler. She’s currently working on an album with Robert Plant.  She’s been in the music business a long time and has been collecting accolades ever since.

As proof of the increasing popularity of Major League Soccer in the United States, The Columbus Crew makes their first appearance on the list.  The Crew is one of ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inception in 1994.  They have won five major trophies; MLS Cup 2008, the 2004, 2008 and 2009 Supporters’ Shields, and the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

Overall, this should be a very interesting weekend.  Enjoy!

O.A.R. is a former college band turned rock superstars.  The group got their starts as Buckeyes at Ohio State University.  They are well known for their live performances and jam band elements making each song unique.  Of the same vein, Dave Matthews Band (DMB) is making a strong showing this weekend whom are also known for their lengthy improvisational renditions of their hits, oftentimes with an intricate video and lighting show.  This Caravan show is in salute to their 20 year anniversary as a band.  They are playing 3, multi-day, multi-artist music events.  The Chicago show is the first event, followed by the New York City show on August 26th and finishing up in Quincy, WA on September 2nd.

Milwaukee Summerfest Heats up June 29th – July9th

Summerfest11 days, 11 stages over 700 bands.  That is just a brief summary of the Milwaukee Summerfest, the “Big Gig”. Every summer, usually around July 4th, droves of fans travel to Henry Maier Festival Park on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take part in the annual “World’s Largest Music Festival” as dubbed by Guinness World Records in 1999.  Summerfest usually has crowds of about 800,000 – 1,000,000 people over the 11 days to see amazing, headlining acts.  This has been an annual tradition since 1968.  The line-up is a who’s who of popular and familiar bands.  The bands range from Pop to Country to Hip Hop to Rap and everything in between.  There is absolutely something at Summerfest for everyone. What’s even better is that shows are “free” with purchase of admission of $8 – 15.  The headlining acts at the Marcus Amphitheatre are an additional cost however. There are also comedy shows and extreme sports exhibitions.  All in all, it’s a pretty outstanding deal.  If you’ve never heard, for been to Summerfest for that matter, you really should.

This year the opening headliner is Peter Gabriel and the New Blood Orchestra.

The exceptionally remarkable line-up is as follows, but please keep in mind that this is a very small sampling of the bands performing at the event.  The headlining act of the day is bolded.

Summer Concert Season!

It’s summer, and that can only mean one thing, it’s concert season!  People are clamoring for great music once again.

Some of the big shows have already shown up in the weekend top 10 lists like Phish, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney.  As always, any kind of outdoor festival like the Vans Warped Tour and Bamboozle has strong appeal.

Other hot tours include the American Idols Live!, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Mumford & Sons, Taylor Swift.

The American Idols Live! Tour features current winner Scotty McCreery and his country music counterpart and 1st runner up, Lauren Alaina.  This show will showcase the top 11 contestants of the 10th season, also including Haley Reinhart, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk, Casey Abrams, Stefano Langone, Paul Mcdonald, Pia Toscano, Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia.  This is a 47 date tour and will start in Utah on July 6th and end in New York on September 10th.

Britney Spears and her Femme Fatale tour have hit the pavement strong.  Her fan base is exceptionally loyal and is coming in droves to see her.  Her latest album debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard Charts, making her the first and only female artist to ever have six number one debut albums.  Nicki Minaj is Britney’s current opening act, after there was a last minute drop out of Latin hunk, Enrique Iglesias.  Her shows are always a spectacle.

The newly minted Mrs. Russell Brand is another pop concert that is sure to not disappoint.  Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream tour is fun and poppy and always catchy.  She is sure to sing her chart topping songs like “Teenage Dream”, “California Gurls” and her recent hit “Firework.”  Her tour runs from June 7th in Atlanta, GA until August 14th in Santa Barbara, CA.

Mumford & Sons is another show that people are exceptionally anxious to get their hands on.  Tickets are usually hard to come because they typically only ever play small, intimate venues.  As of March 2011, their current album, Sigh No More, has sold over 1, 00,000 copies in the both the United States and the United Kingdom.  This is a band to keep your eye on.

Taylor Swift announced her current tour, Speak Now, back in December 2010.  Regardless, this concert is still very much a hot topic.    Ms. Swift has a very strong and broad fan base.  Her music style that combines pop and country makes her very appealing.

As the weather heats up, so does the concert season, check out Tickifieds for all your ticket needs!
