Spring is Here… Opening Day 2014

2014 MLB Opening DayAlthough the first day of Spring was officially on March 20th, we think Spring really starts the same day as the Major League Baseball season- opening day.  With opening day happening tomorrow (Monday March 31st), we thought it would be fitting to make our predictions for the upcoming season.  As a Chicago Cubs fan, spring is the time for optimism.  A time where every team still has a chance to reach the post season no matter how big or how small the payroll.  While, over the last several years, parity has increased across the MLB landscape – most experts still pick the big spending teams like the New York Yankees or the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The bigger and more interesting question is who will become this year’s Pittsburgh Pirates?  With that in mind, here are my picks for the 2014 MLB Season.

National League

NL East – Washington Nationals:  The Nationals were a big disappointment last year but they will be ready to rebound.  Bryce Harper will be ready to compete for a MVP crown this year.

NL Central – St. Louis Cardinals:  Hard to pick against St. Louis here… They made it all the way to the World Series last season only to lose to the Braves.  This Cardinals team is loaded with young talent that should only be better this year.  As much as I hate to admit it, unless they implode, expect them to cruise to another NL Central Title.

NL West –  Los Angeles Dodgers:  Again not a surprising pick here but the L.A. Dodgers are absolutely loaded with talent.  The got off to a slow start last season only to come on strong at the end – that could happen again this year but I just can’t see the Giants or Diamondbacks running away with the division early.

NL Wildcard Teams: Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies

American League

AL East – Tampa Bay Rays:  While most are picking the Red Sox or Yankees here, I just can’t pick against a team with an abundance of young talent and the best manager in the game (Joe Maddon).  Watch out for Desmond Jennings and Chris Archer this year!

AL Central – Kansas City Royals: Ok, here is my out-on-a-limb pick.  Every year I think the KC Royals will be much better than they turn out to be.  Maybe it is my inner Cub fan coming out but I really think this will be the year the Royals put it all together.  Watch out for Yordano Ventura!

AL West – Oakland A’s:  On paper the A’s look like nothing all that special.  However, they never look all that special on paper but Billy Beane always seems to find a way to keep the Athletics competitive.  With not a whole lot of dominant teams in the AL West you have to go with the team that will likely be the most consistent.

AL Wildcard Teams:  Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers

Final 4 and MLB Opening Day Draws Heavy Interest – Tickifieds Top 10

2013-final-four-logoIt should come as no surprise that this week we once again find the NCAA Tournament atop our Top 10 list of events.  The NCAA Tournament, and in particular the Final Four, is one of the most watched events in the country.  It’s been a pretty incredible tournament so far with plenty of upsets including the #9 seeded Wichita State Shockers advancing along with #4 seeds Michigan and Syracuse and the #1 overall seeded Louisville Cardinals.  The Georgia Dome will surely be rocking when the Final Four begins on Satruday (4/6/2013).

Other than the impressive numbers from the NCAA Tournament, notable inclusions on this week’s list are the multiple MLB teams.  With the 2013 MLB opening day today, interest in baseball tickets has certainly spiked.  Of the top 10 events this week, 5 are from the world of baseball.

Top Events Week 12 (3/25/2013 to 4/1/2013)

1.  NCAA Tournament Final Four

The NCAA Tournament Final Four field is set with top seeded Louisville joined by Wichita State Shockers (#9), Michigan Wolverines (#4)  and Syracuse Orange (#4).  Significant traffic is flowing in from fans looking for tickets to the semi-finals and championship game.  As such, full session passes are a popular item.

2.  One Direction

One Direction keeps chugging along as a major force in the event ticket industry. As soon as the NCAA Tournament is over, expect 1D to resume their reign as the top event at Tickifieds.com

3.  Chicago Cubs

The baseball season is underway and despite the fact that the Cubs are coming off a 100 loss season, fans are still looking to enjoy summertime fun at the “Friendly Confines” of Wrigley Field.

4.  John Mayer

John Mayer will be spending the summer alongside former American Idol winner Philip Phillips.  Ticket demand has been surprisingly strong especially for shows in Atlanta (Lakewood Amphitheater), Colorado (Red Rocks Amphitheater) and Milwaukee (SummerFest).

5.  New York Yankees

It could be a looooong year for Yankees fans as age and injuries are really starting to catch up to them.  If the Yankees can stay in the race for the AL East title at least fans know that ownership will continue to open up their wallets!

6.  Washington Nationals

After a disappointing conclusion to the 2012 season, Nationals fans are looking forward to a full year with pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg and young slugger Bryce Harper.  The future is very bright for this team!

7.  Pitbull and Kesha

Hip hop mogul Pitbull is teaming up with ke$ha on their 2013 Tour.  This party duo is sure to draw strong interest from their legions of dedicated fans- especially for those hard to get Meet and Greet Passes.  Popular shows thus far are Atlanta (Lakewood Amphitheater), Holmdel (PNC Bank Arts Center) and, surprisingly, Albuquerque (Hard Rock Pavilion).

8.  Kansas City Royals

A bit of surprise here but fans are excited about the KC Royals chances this year. While they may not have the talent of the Detroit Tigers, they Royals have quietly assembled themselves a nice team that should be in contention for at least a wildcard spot.

9.  Boston Red Sox

Much like the Yankees and Cubs,  Boston Red Sox fans aren’t overly optimistic about their chances this year but that doesn’t seem to stop them from going to games.

10.  Big Time Rush

Nickelodeon stars Big Time Rush (aka BTR) will be heading out on tour this summer with emerging pop star Victoria Justice on the 2013 “Summer Break Tour.”  The tour announcement came just a few short days ago so expect these guys to creep up the ranking next week.

NCAA Tournament Tickets in Demand – Tickifieds Top 10

IndianaHoosiersNCAATournamentAs expected, the NCAA Tournament is in the spotlight again this week.  After an exciting first few rounds of the tournament, we are down to the final 16 teams spread out across each of the 4 regions.    The East Region consists of Marquette, Miami, Syracuse and Indiana.  The Midwest contains Michigan State, Duke, Louisville and Oregon.  Michigan, Kansas, Florida and Florida Gulf Coast make up the South Region.  Lastly, the West will feature Arizona, Ohio State, Wichita State and La Salle.

Although there are lots of unexpected teams (see Oregon, Florida Gulf Coast, Wichita State, La Salle, etc.), the Big 10 has lived up to expectations placing four teams in the Sweet Sixteen.  I can’t imagine anyone out their still with a perfect bracket!

Top Events Week 11 (3/19/2013 to 3/26/2013)

1.  NCAA Tournament

The 2013 NCAA Tournament field is down to the “Sweet Sixteen” and is headed for regional action.  As such, ticket demand is extremely strong for the Midwest, East, South, and West Regionals.

2. One Direction

Despite the fact that the NCAA tournament has outshined them the past two weeks, demand for One Direction tickets has not slowed one bit. Fans are still eagerly looking for the best deals on several of the rapidly approaching 2013 shows.  Hot concerts this week include Los Angeles, Tinley Park and Hershey.

3.  CONCACAF Gold Cup

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is being hosted by the United States this year much to the delight of soccer fans.  Popular matches include USA vs Costa Rica, Panama vs Canada, USA vs Belize, and the Gold Cup Final at Soldier Field in Chicago.

4.  Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett is always a popular summer concert as Parrotheads are strong supporters year after year.  This year Jimmy will also be playing a few special shows with Jackson Browne at the Austin360 Amphitheater in Austin, FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco and Comerica Park in Detroit.

5.  Kenny Chesney

Country music’s version of Jimmy Buffett has also been popular this week.  Top shows include Angel Stadium, Columbia South Carolina and Target Field with the Zac Brown Band.

6.  Milwaukee Summerfest

Interest in the world’s largest music festival is gaining steam as more and more performers are starting to leak out.  Already confirmed for 2013 are Fun (with Tegan and Sara), Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Jason Aldean, New Kids on the Block with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, Tim McGraw, Rush and the Vans Warped Tour.  Get more details at 2013 Milwakee Summerfest Schedule.

7.  Chicago Cubs

The Cubs might still be a few years away from contending for a World Series title but that has not stopped fans from gobbling up tickets.   Cubs home opener tickets are drawing the most interest with games against the White Sox coming in a close second.

8.  Milwaukee Brewers

The team that plays at Wrigley Field North is also generating a fair amount of fan interest. That said, the most popular Brewers games appear to against the Chicago Cubs.

9.  Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi’s 2013 Tour is still going strong especially for concerts at the intimate indoor venues happening this spring.  Popular shows include Omaha, San Jose and Kansas City.

10.  Detroit Tigers

The City of Detroit may be a vacant wasteland but at least they have the Detroit Tigers going for them.  Demand should remain strong as the Tigers are expected to contend for a World Series title again this year.

NCAA Tournament overtakes One Direction – Tickifieds Top 10

2013-NCAA-Tournament-logoAfter nearly a full year dominating the Tickifieds Top 10, someone finally took down the king One Direction.  This week, the NCAA Tournament upset the boy wonder band 1D to claim the top spot in this weeks Top 10 list.  To celebrate this glorious occasion, we decided to do a special two part blog post.  Not only will we detail the top overall events this week, we will also break down the Top 10 NCAA Tournament Games that will take place this week.  This includes the opening round “First Four” as well as the 2nd and 3rd round match ups that will take place on March 21st and March 22nd.

Top NCAA Tournament Sessions (Rounds 2 and 3)

1.  Detroit Session 1:  Valpo vs MSU and Memphis vs TBD

I may be a bit biased, but demand for Session 1 of the Detroit NCAA Tournament games has been crazy.  It’s really not that much of a surprise given the fact that Michigan State virtually has a home game but Valparaiso also travels well.  The Crusaders are just a state away and will be looking to pull off another big upset with the Bryce Drew coached team.

2.  Lexington Session 1:  Marquette vs. Davidson & Butler vs. Bucknell

This session is packed with typical underdog schools all with a reasonable chance at making it to the Sweet 16.  Throw in the fact that the Butler Bulldogs are looking strong and Indianapolis is only a few short hours away, and it makes perfect sense that this session comes in at #2.

3.  Kansas City Session 2:  Kansas vs. Western Kentucky & North Carolina vs. Villanova

Again, here we have another top team from a major conference with a relative home game.  KC Session 2 is drawing strong demand from Jayhawk fans.  Having North Carolina doesn’t hurt either!

4.  Dayton Session 2:  Notre Dame vs. Iowa State & Ohio State. vs. Iona

Dayton Ohio is the hub of college basketball right now.  the tournament kicks off the “first four” there today and follows up with a dynamite session that includes in-state team Ohio State and Notre Dame.

5.  Detroit Session 2:  VCU vs. Akron & Michigan vs. South Dakota State

The Tournament selection committee was kind to the Michigan Big 10 schools.  Not only do you have the Michigan Wolverines with a relative home game in Auburn Hills but you also have fan favorite VCU all in the same session.

6.  Philadelphia Session 2:  Georgetown vs. Florida Gulf Coast & San Diego State vs. Oklahoma

This one is a bit of a surprise as the only school within reasonable traveling distance are the Georgetown Hoyas.  Nonetheless, this session is drawing considerable interest…

7.  Salt Lake City Session 1:  Gonzaga vs. Southern & Pittsburgh vs. Wichita State

Not a whole lot to be excited about here outside of #1 seeded Gonzaga.  The Zags are finally starting to get the respect they deserve and were rewarded with a game within a reasonable distance from Spokane.

8.  San Jose Session 2:  UNLV vs. California & Syracuse vs. Montana

Outside of Syracuse, all teams in the San Jose Session 2 are relatively big schools within driving distance to San Jose.  Even more interesting is that each of these games should be really competitive!

9.  Lexington Session 2:  Louisville vs. TBD & Colorado State vs. Missouri

As the #1 overall seed, the Louisvile Cardinals were rewarded with a game in their home state.  Adding further interest to the mix is neighboring Missouri taking on Colorado State.

10.  Austin Session 2:  UCLA vs. Minnesota & Florida vs. Northwestern State

There has not been much interest in the Austin Sessions of the NCAA Tournament and probably for good reason- Not really any local nor very good teams.  However, UCLA and Florida do have strong fan bases that have kept Session 2 on our radar.

Top Overall Events Week 9 (3/4/2013 to 3/11/2013)

  1. NCAA Tournament
  2. One Direction
  3. CONCACAF Gold Cup
  4. Boston Red Sox
  5. Paradiso Festival
  6. Austin Rodeo
  7. Chicago Cubs
  8. New York Yankees
  9. Emblem3
  10. Los Angeles Dodgers

Super Bowl XLVII Closing in on 1D – Tickifieds Top 10

Super Bowl XLVII will feature the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.

Super Bowl XLVII will feature the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.

Are you ready for the 2 week long, non-stop 24 hour media blitz that comes along with the Super Bowl?  Now that the AFC (Baltimore Ravens) and NFC Champions (San Francisco 49ers) have been crowned, the next two weeks will be filled with analysis, story lines, and of course talk of the most watched sporting event in the world – the Super Bowl.  Super Bowl 47 will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans Louisiana on February 3rd. 2013.

Although tickets to the big game are in big time demand and can be hard to get, many ticket brokers and speculators also profit off of the many Super Bowl related events,  Some of the top events this year include Media Day and Taste of the NFL,  in addition to Emeril Lagasse Pre-GameMaxim, Playboy, and Leather and Laces Parties

Top Events Week 3, 2013

1.  One Direction

One Direction is still number one but their grip finally appears to be slipping.  1D is still insanely popular but the gap is cetainly narrowing.

2.  Super Bowl XLVII

Not much of a surprise here as the most watched sporting event in the world comes in at #2 this week.  Super Bowl 47 will feature the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.  Expect demand to be huge for this event during the next 2 weeks.  Also hot are all the Super Bowl Parties including the Leather and Laces, DirecTv and Playboy VIP Events.

3.  Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift holds strong at #3 once again.  Her most popular shows include Columbus Ohio (5/8/2013), L.A. (8/20/2013), and MetLife Stadium (7/13/2013).

4.  Bob Seger

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band will be back out on tour in 2013 on their Rock and Roll Never Forgets Tour.  This has been one of the bigger concert announcements of 2013 and should continue to do well throughout the duration of the tour.

5.  Houston Rodeo

The Houston Rodeo falls 1 spot this week but it really isn’t due to any loss of popularity but rather a surge in activity for the Super Bowl.  With the Rodeo only a month away, expect sales to continue to be strong.  For the full HLSR lineup and details check out our previous blog post:  2013 Houston Rodeo Schedule and Lineup!

6.  Chicago Cubs

Fresh off the 2013 Chicago Cubs Convention fans are already starting to think baseball.  Although the Cubs aren’t expected to compete for the NL Central this year they do have an exciting core of young players (Starlin Castro, Anthony Rizzo, and Jeff Samardzija) who should be fun to watch.  Regardless of how they fare in 2013 fans will still flock to Wrigley Field.
