NBA and NHL Playoff Tickets Dominate – Tickifieds Top 10

Been a busy weelk so we’ll spare you the mindless chit-chat and get straight to this week’s top 10.

Top Events Week 15 (5/2/2013 to 5/8/2013)

1.  One Direction

Still no change atop the Tickifieds Top 10.  1D is still drawing record amount of traffic to Tickifieds.com.

2.  Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have been one of the more surprising stories of the 2013 NBA Playoffs.  Not only did a depleted Bulls team loaded with injuries pull off the upset of the Brooklyn Nets in the first round, they also stole home court advantage by beating the defending NBA Champs in Game 1.  Throw in rumors of a Derek Rose return and you can imagine there is a lot of interest in tickets.

3.  Justin Bieber

With Justin Bieber’s US Tour set to kick off in a month, ticket demand is starting to surge.  Of course the Justin Bieber Meet and Greet tickets are in big demand but so are tickets to shows in San Diego, Brooklyn and Omaha.

4.  Miami Heat

If the Chicago Bulls upset win over the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs did anything, it got Miami fans to wake up.  After a physical Bulls team had their way with Lebron James and Dwayne Wade, the Heat played with a sense on panic in Game 2.  With the series tied 1-1 there will certainly be a Game 5 in Miami.

5.  Darren Criss

Darren Criss slides a bit this week but nothing coming in at #5 is nothing to sneeze about.  The Glee star has shown impressive fan support on this his first tour.  Popular shows include Dallas, Nashville and New York.

6.  Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks, the #1 overall seed in NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, have a 3-1 advantage over the Minnesota Wild.  The Hawks will look to clinch tonight and advance to the second round.  Fans are already looking to secure 2nd round playoff tickets as the Wild just aren’t going to get back into the series especially with all their goalie trouble.

7.  Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warrior fans haven’t had much to cheer about since the days of Chris Mullins.  That all changed when Stephen Curry fully emerge as the new face of the franchise.  The Warriors are up against the top seeded San Antonio Spurs and are all tied at 1-1.  Game 4 in Oakland is on Sunday and is getting a ton of traffic!

8.  Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have looked impressive thus far with a commanding 3-1 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs.  The Bruins will look to advance with Game 5 on Friday in Boston.

9. Justin Timberlake

JT recently announced the followup to his Legends of Summer Tour with Jay-Z – the 20/20 Experience World Tour.  Tickets haven’t even fully gone on sale yet but there is already huge demand.  Timberlakes most popular shows include Las Vegas, Houston and Columbus.

10.  New York Rangers

The New York Rangers are currently in a heated battle with the rival Washington Capitals.  The series is all tied up at 2-2 with Game 5 on Friday in Washington.  Game 6 will be on Sunday in New York.

This top 10 list is compiled from internal search data from Tickifieds.com and organic traffic from search engines.  Search terms are ranked by using a combination of both sources of search data.

NBA and NHL Playoffs Driving Ticket Sales in May

NBA PlayoffsSpringtime is typically one of the slowest times of the year in terms of ticket sales.   We are still a few months away from the summer concert season, warm baseball games, and the start of both college and NFL football.  However, spring is also the time when both the NHL and NBA are conducting their annual post-season tournaments.  Although both the NBA and NHL are largely struggling to fill their arenas, the playoffs are a different story as fans are eager to gobble up often sold out tickets- especially in major sports markets like Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, and Denver.

The 2012 NBA Playoff have just begun and there has already been some major headlines as teams are vying for the NBA Finals.  The biggest news thus far has been season ending knee injury to reigning MVP Derek Rose.  Without Rose the Chicago Bulls chances for a rematch with the Miami Heat seems unlikely.  With the Bulls less than full strength the Heat seemingly have an easy path through the NBA East.  Here is a look at the 1st round matchups for the 2012 NBA Playoffs.

Chicago Cubs Tickets Sales and Attendance Hopes to Rebound in 2012

Chicago Cubs Starlin CastroGetting a ticket to see the Chicago Cubs play at historic Wrigley Field is typically not an easy task.  The Cubs regularly sell out the ballpark and games against rivals such as the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals demand premium dollar in the secondary ticket market.  However, last year you couldn’t pay fans to head down to the “Friendly Confines”.  Although the Cubs sold over 3 million tickets (> 37,000 per game) by mid-summer Wrigley Field was half empty during most games.

However, there is hope for Cubs fans and ticket brokers alike as we head into the 2012 season.  The Chicago Cubs have made some major moves this off season – most notably the hiring of former Boston Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer.  Fans are hoping that Theo can help the Cubs break their 103 year World Series drought much like he helped Boston.  It might not happen this year as the Cubs are clearly in a rebuilding mode but they are already starting to acquire pieces of a championship puzzle and clearing out some bad seeds.  Former faces of the organization Aramis Ramirez (signed with the Brewers) and Carlos Zambrano (traded to the Miami Marlins for Chris Volstad) are gone and in are of David DeJesus, Ian Stewart, Reed Johnson, Travis Wood, and intriguing 1st base prospect Anthony Rizzo.

The Cubs opening day lineup likely isn’t going to instill fear in any opponent but it is clear a long term plan is in place.  All-star shortstop Starlin Castro is clearly the new face of the franchise and will be joined by C Geovany Soto, 2B Darwin Barney, 3B Ian Stewart, and likely Bryan 1B LaHair in the infield.  The outfield, as it stands now will feature Alfonso Soriano in right field, Marlon Byrd in center, and a platoon of David DeJesus and Reed Johnson in right.  The rotation will consist of Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Travis Wood, Chris Volstad, and Randy Wells/Casey Coleman.  Although the Cubs didn’t go after any of the marque free agents (Puljols, Fielder, Jose Reyes, etc.), Cub fans are a loyal bunch and as long as things are headed in the right direct they will support their team.

So while the Cubs may not be all that good in 2012, there is plenty of buzz surrounding the franchise and that is usually good for ticket sales. Below is a list of 2012 Chicago Cubs games that should generate plenty of fan interest.

7/27 to 7/29/2012 Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals

Top Weekend Events August 19-21

Hello Wednesday!

First and foremost, I’d like to extend my condolences to the families affected by the collapsed stage at the Sugarland show at the Indiana State Fair.  You’re in our thoughts!

Not to be totally glossed over, but there do seem to be a few other state fair concerts on the list for this week.  While last week’s concert was surely a tragedy, it was a sad, but extremely rare occurrence.  Train and Lady Antebellum will both be performing at the Iowa and Indiana State Fairs respectively.

Other county music stars will be hitting the stage this weekend with huge fan interest.  Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band are high again on the list with their summery sound.  Ms. Taylor Swift is once again on the list as well with her Speak Now tour which continues and will continue to draw a lot of interest.  Rascal Flatts, while always popular, seems to be getting even more popular these days.

Justin Beiber’s better half, Selena Gomez, takes the top spot for the weekend.   Selena Gomez and The Scene (the rest of her band) recently took home accolades from the RIAA for their song “Who Says” which went platinum.  The girl can sing!  Her days on Disney’s the Wizards of Wavery Place, dating the Bieb as well as her throngs of pre-tween fans can’t hurt either.

Old rivals the Chicago Cubs vs. the St. Louis Cardinals face off again this weekend.  Both teams have die-hard loyal fans, but sadly, the Cardinals have more World Series wins over the Cubbies.

And finally, once again the MLS has made another appearance on the top weekend events list.  The Houston Dynamo Soccer team will take on the Real Salt Lake.  Keep your eye out for MLS games!

Top Weekend Events August 5 – 7

Wow, can you believe it’s August already??  What happened to July?

As people soak up the last month of summer, fans are still coming out for all the hot concerts and sporting events.

Phish, once again, holds the top position.  Phish like Dave Matthews Band are pretty much the epitome of summer tour bands.  They are to be expected.

According to Redbook Magazine, Taylor Swift was the top concert people wanted to see this summer.  Her concert sales, even on the secondary ticket marketplace certainly correlate with this.

The Vans Warped Tour is on the list again for their Denver tour dates.  Some of the notable bands playing at Invesco Field include A Day to Remember, Against Me!, Attack Attack!, Gym Class Heros, Less Than Jake, Relient K, The Devil Wears Prada, The Expendables and We Came As Romans.

Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Grant Park is another big draw this weekend.  The top headliners for this weekend’s tour include Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Muse.  Other tops acts playing in Perry Farrell’s 20th anniversary vision include My Morning Jacket, Deadmau5, A Perfect Circle, Cee Lo Green, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley & Nas, The Cars, Ween, Bright Eyes, Arctic Monkeys, Big Audio Dynamite, Deftones, Beirut, Explosions in the Sky, Death from Above 1979, Ratatat, Crystal Castles, Flogging Molly, Atmosphere, Cold War Kids, Lykke Li, Cage the Elephant, OK GO, Local Natives, The Kills, White Lies, Portugal. The Man, Two Door Cinema Club, Ellie Goulding, Delta Spirit, Beats Antique, The Mountain Goats, Sleigh Bells, Manchester Orchestra, Smith Westerns, Best Coast, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, The Drums, Black Lips, Fitz & The Tantrums, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, City and Colour, Cults, Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses and more.  Chicago is the place to be this weekend for music lovers.

The Gipsy Kings music has been described as “Spanish flamenco and Romani rhapsody meet salsa funk.”  The band started in Southern France in the 1970’s and have been rising in popularity ever since.

Once again, the European soccer teams have shown up again on the top weekend list.    Like Manchester United and Real Madrid earlier this summer, expect  FC Barcelona to show the American team who the real soccer champs are.  Fans are still very excited to have these matches on their home turf and are wanting to see them live.
