Let the Madness Begin – Tickifieds Top 10

2013 Big 10 Tournament

The Indiana Hoosiers will look to defend their Big 10 Championship with the tournament crown at the United Center in Chicago from 3/14 to 3/17/2013.

Well, it looks like Emblem3’s challenge to One Direction was a bit premature.  After surging last week to #2 in the Tickifieds Top 10, Emblem3 drops all the way down to #10.  Although interest in Emblem3 concert tickets has died down to some degree, keep in mind the California boys currently only have 6 shows on the schedule (Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Boston and 2 shows in Chicago).  If they end up adding more shows the could still put up a fight.  Until then, consider 1D the current kings.

Aside from the boy band drama, this week is dominated by college basketball.  Not only do we have NCAA Tournament games near the top, the college basketball tournament games are also drawing a lot of ticket interest.  In particular, the Big 10 Tournament is really raking in the visitors as all tournament games at the United Center in Chicago are sold out. Also making the list this week is the Big East, SEC and ACC Basketball Tournaments.

Top Events Week 9 (3/4/2013 to 3/11/2013)

1.  One Direction

One Direction is still king of event tickets but a brand new challenger has come to the forefront – Emblem3.  How much longer can ID continue to dominate the event ticket market?

2. Big 10 Basketball Tournament

The Big 10 is as strong as ever this year and fans are excited about this year’s tournament.  Games begin on Thursday with Session 1 and Session 2.  Session 1 will feature Illinois vs Minnesota and Michigan vs Penn State while Session 2 will feature Purdue vs Nebraska and Iowa vs Northwestern.  The #3 Indiana Hoosiers were the regular season champs and will look to win the tourney as well.

3.  NCAA Tournament

Although Selection Sunday will not take place until 3/17/2013, many fans are already scouting the secondary ticket market for deals on NCAA Tournament tickets.  Expect demand to sky rocket once the seeds are announced.

4.  ACC Basketball Tournament

The ACC might be a bit down this year but that will just add to the drama of the 2013 ACC Basketball Tournament.  The Miami Hurricanes nailed down the #1 seed, with Duke #2, North Carolina #3 and Virginia #4.  The Tourney will begin with Session 1 and Session 2 beginning on Thursday 3/14/2013

5.  Jimmy Buffett

Spring must be in the air as that could be the only explanation as to why the king of the summer outdoor concert makes the list in mid-March.  Popular shows thus far include 4/30 Lakewood AmphitheaterJones Beach 8/20 and 8/24 at Alpine Valley.

6.  Dave Matthews Band

Another band that is synonymous with outdoor venues in the summer, DMB comes in at #6 this week.  Popular 2013 Dave Matthews Band shows include 5/17 Woodlands Pavilion, Alpine Valley on 7/5 and 7/12 at Riverbend Amphitheater with OAR!

7.  Big East Basketball Tournament

The last year of the Big East as we know has fans eager to be there for the 2013 Tournament.  The tournament will be held at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday 3/12 with Session 1 (South Florida vs. Seton Hall and DePaul vs. Rutgers) and Session 2 (Cincinnati vs. Providence and Syracuase).

8.  SEC Basketball Tournament

The SEC is traditionally a football conference but the Kentucky Wildcats have always kept the conference in the National spotlight.  This year the Wildcats are rebuilding lost out to the Florida Gators for the conference regular season championship.  The 2013 SEC Tournament will begin on 3/13 and will continue through Sunday 3/17 in Nashville.

9.  Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Rocker Tom Petty recently announced plans to tour the US  with the Heartbreakers following extended stints in Los Angeles and New York.  Popular shows include 6/20 in Pittsburgh, 6/28 in Milwaukee (Summerfest) and 6/29 at Target Field.

10.  Emblem3

Although the boys from Emblem3 dropped 8 spots to #10 this week, the addition of more shows could spark more interest down the line.   While who knows what the future holds, be sure to keep an eye on these guys! The 2013 Tour includes shows in Philadelphia, New York,  Freehold NJ, Boston, and two shows in Chicago.

This top 10 list is compiled from internal search data from Tickifieds.com and organic traffic from search engines.  Search terms are ranked by using a combination of both sources of search data.

2012 NCAA Tournament Schedule

Any veteran of marketing playoff and tournament tickets knows that prior preparation is essential.  However, unlike many other sports, tickets to the NCAA tournamentgo on sale long before the teams participating are announced.  Even further compounding marketing efforts is the fact that even for teams who are all but assured a spot in the NCAA Tournament field of 68, no one knows where they will be playing until the bracket is officially announced on “Selection Sunday”.

2012 NCAA Tournament TicketsWhile this presents a level of difficultly, it also represents a major opportunity since most fans wait to purchase tickets until after the match ups and locations are announced. While you can’t start marketing tickets to particular college basketball teams, you can start marketing to local fans of college basketball in general.

This year’s tournament is shaping up to be big in terms of ticket demand with some major college basketball hubs on the schedule.  The 2nd and 3rd round games in Pittsburgh, Louisville, Columbus, Nashville, and Greensboro are sure to be extremely popular regardless of which teams end up playing there.  The regionals are also in cities conducive to attracting college basketball fans from across the country.  In particular, the East Regional in Boston and the Southeast Regional in Atlanta should draw premium prices.  It also doesn’t hurt that the top teams in the country (Syracuse and Kentucky) are likely to end up the #1 seeds in each of these regions.

So with that in mind, here are some key dates and the official schedule of events for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Tickifieds.com 2011-2012 College Basketball Rankings

Fab Melo of Syracuse University

The Syracuse Orange can be legitimate National Championship contenders if Fab Melo can live up to his enormous potential.

With the NBA Labor dispute threatening professional basketball, fans of the sport across the country are anxiously awaiting the start of the NCAA season.   Although it seems strange talking college hoops in October, Midnight Madness has already officially kicked off the start of the 2011-2012 College Basketball season across many college campuses. These first days of practice typically include a raucous pep rally featuring cheerleaders, loud music, and a slam dunk contest.  While this is mainly a publicity stunt, it also mean teams may officially begin practices for games which begin in early November.  With only a few week left until tip off, we have come up with rankings for the upcoming season.  Below are the Tickifieds.com Preseason Top 25 College Basketball teams.

1.  North Carolina Tarheels

The Tarheels are probably the most talented team in the nation as they will be returning several stars from last season.  Point guard Kendall Marshall should benefit by beginning the season as a starter.  Throw in freshman 5-star prospects James McAdoo and PJ Hairston to the front court and North Carolina could be scary good.

2.  Kentucky Wildcats

Perhaps no one recruited a better freshman class than John Calipari.  The Wildcats will feature four 5-star prospects including Anthony Davis, Mike Gilchrist, Marquis Teague and Kyle Wiltjer. If the fantastic freshman can gel with veterans Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb, the could be one of the best college basketball teams in UK history.  Until we  see them in action, we have to put them at #2.

3.  The Ohio State Buckeyes

College Player of the Year Jared Sullinger will be back for his sophomore year and has the Buckeyes in contention for a national title.  Although Ohio State doesn’t have the depth of UNC or Kentucky, they will be returning Aaron Craft and William Buford to go along with another solid recruiting class.

4.  Syracuse Orange

We are going to go out on a bit of a limb and project Syracuse at #4.  This young and talented team has an impressive backcourt trio with Scoop Jardine, Brandon Triche and Dion Waiters.  If Fab Melo and Freshman Rakeem Christmas develop to their potential they could be real scary.

5.  Duke Blue Devils

The Blue Devils lost a lot of talent from last year but, as usual, have quickly reloaded with incoming freshman Austin Rivers, Seth Curry and Andre Dawkins set to take over.  They may take a while to get things going but there certainly will not be a lack of talent.

6.  Vanderbilt Commodores

After bowing out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round, Vandy will be looking for revenge.  With arguably one of the most experienced teams in the nation the Commodores should be strong with  Jeffery Taylor, John Jenkins and Festus Ezeli all returning.

7.  Memphis Tigers

Memphis made some noise last year but their inexperience showed last season.  With more experience under their belt, Josh Pastner’s squad could finally get to a Final Four with a nice mix of returning players and some exciting freshman.

8.  Louisville Cardinals

Although the Cardinals lost guard Preston Knowles, just about everyone else will be back.  Lousiville will also add 2 top 35 recruits in Chane Behanan and Wayne Blackshear.

9.  Florida Gators

The Gators certainly lost some frontcourt depth from last year but they return 2 of the most unappreciated guards in the country Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton.  If transfer Mike Rosario and 5-star recruit Brad Beal live up to potential, Florida could battle Kentucky and Vanderbilt for the SEC title.

10.  Pittsburgh Panthers

The Panthers are a bit of a sleeper pick but any team with Ashton Gibbs certainly has a shot.  Pittsburgh has solid chemistry with lots of returning players and a very nice recruiting class.  This team could get out of the gates quickly.

The rest of the top 25….

11.  Connecticut Huskies

12. Baylor Bears

13. Kansas Jayhawks

14.  Wisconsin Badgers

18. Michigan Wolverines

19.  Texas A&M Aggies
