NBA Basketball is back and tickets are hot!

Clippers Tickets are hotNBA fans across the nation are happy as the 2011-2012 season has begun.  Following the labor dispute, the NBA season has been shortened to just 66 games.  That means that teams have to squeeze in a lot of games in a short period of time.  As such the season is filled with back-to-back and back-to-back-to-back games.  While the work load is likely difficult on the NBA players, fans get to enjoy some great basketball on each and every night.

In the event ticketing world, NBA tickets are a bit of an untapped market.  While most ticket brokers turn their attention to events that yield higher profit margins such as  concerts and football (both NFL and College), the market is also strong for many NBA teams.  So if you are looking to sell tickets to NBA games we’ve put together a list of the top 10 teams to market for the 2011-2012 NBA Season.

1.  LA Clippers

This one is a bit of a surprise as the Clippers have been overshadowed by the LA Lakers.  However, the addition of Chris Paul and the emergence of Blake Griffin has really drawn a lot of fan interest.

2. New York Knicks

NY Knicks fans have been waiting for a decent team to root for since the Patrick Ewing era.  With Carmelo Anthony back and the addition of Tyson Chandler this team is one of the top contenders in the NBA East.

3. Chicago Bulls

Since the Michael Jordan era Bulls tickets have always been a commodity.  Now that the Bulls are once again title contenders with MVP Derrick Rose at the helm, tickets are in even more demand.

4. Miami Heat

The Miami Heat would be much higher on the list if it weren’t for the fact they play in Miami.  Even with the 3-headed beast of James, Wade, and Bosh Miami fans just don’t seem to care much until playoff time.  Miami has to be one of the worst cities for professional sports fans!

5. Oklahoma City Thunder

Although Oklahoma City is not exactly a big basketball city, Kevin Durant and company are one of the most exciting teams in the NBA.

6. LA Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers tickets are always in demand and this season will be no exception even though they are expected to be on the decline following the retirement of Phil Jackson.  However, any team with Kobe Bryant will draw in the fans.

7. Orlando Magic

Magic fans are coming out in droves to convince perennial MVP candidate Dwight Howard he should stay.

8. Dallas Mavericks

Fresh off their NBA Championship season the Mavs are a little long in the tooth but they still are the champs.  They also still have Dirk Nowitski and should be a lock for another playoff season.

9. New Jersey Nets

Tickets to Nets games are on the rise with continued rumors of a Dwight Howard trade.  Throw in a move next year to the Bronx and the acquisition of Deron Williams and things are looking up for the Nets franchise.

10. Denver Nuggets

It looks as though Nuggets fans are saying good riddance to Carmelo Anthony.  While they no longer have their superstar their team basketball and solid defense has them looking really good!

NBA Eastern Conference Finals Preview: Bulls vs Heat

Derrick Rose vs Lebron James

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose guards the Heat's Lebron James in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals!

If the 2011 NBA Playoffs haven’t already been exciting enough, the NBA Eastern Conference Finals will feature MVP Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls against public enemy #1 Lebron James and the Miami Heat.  This matchup has all the making of a classic playoff series with many drama filled story-lines dominating the headlines.  Chicago Bulls fans, as well as basketball fans in general, have reason to dislike the Miami Heat.  Not only did Lebron James, Dewayne Wade, and Chris Bosh all snub their noses at Chicago, Lebron James ego-maniacal choice to air his “decision” on live national television has made him the subject of much criticism.  The Miami Heat also drew scorn  for the way in which the celebrated their game 5 Eastern Conference semi-final victory over the Boston Celtics.  The Heat celebrated as if they had won the NBA championship already. Come on Lebron, act like you’ve been there before!  You actually have…

This was in stark contrast to the calm and respectful way in which the Bulls clinched a birth in the Eastern Conference Finals. This should come as no surprise to anyone who follows NBA basketball.    The Miami Heat have become synonymous with selfish, look-at-me basketball while the Bulls have done it all season with selfless, team oriented basketball.  The Bulls humble superstar Derrick Rose is the antithesis of James and Wade choosing to credit teamates rather than draw attention to himself.

This series will be a classic tale of talent (Miami) vs heart (Chicago).  There is no question the Miami have one of the most talented teams in NBA history with mega-stars in Lebron James and Dwayne Wade and their sidekick allstar Chris Bosh.  However, the Heat have struggled all season long to find an identity and to close out games.  James, as he has throughout his NBA career, has proven not to be much of a clutch performer and has had trouble differing the big shots to Dwayne Wade. The key for the Miami Heat will be how Chrissy Bosh end up playing.  Last time these 2 teams met, the Miami Heat were crying in the locker room after another loss.  Chris Bosh has been ineffective in the Heat’s 3 losses to the Bulls and James and Wade failed to perform in the clutch.  If the Heat are going to have a shot at going to the NBA finals, Bosh will have to play like an all-star.

The Bulls on the other-hand have a clear leader in Rose and a cast of legitimate sidekicks who share equally in the glory.  Center Joakim Noah and small forward Luol Deng are all key contributors on both the offensive and defensive ends.  Carlos Boozer, who despite his recent struggles is  key inside presence.  Keith Bogans is  a defensive specialist who will have the task of shutting down Wade as well as hitting an occasional 3-pointer.  For the Bulls the key to the series will be the play of Carlos Boozer.  If Boozer can play like he did in Game 6 against the Atlanta Hawks, the Heat will have their hands full.  If Boozer can’t get his act going, the Bulls know they have another solid option in Taj Gibson.  Gibson is an excellent defender and shows on occasion an offensive prowess.  As Derrick Rose said, “Taj doesn’t even know how good he is”.  Unlike the Heat, the Bulls have a cast of characters who could end up being difference makers- from Taj Gibson, Omir Asik, Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer to Tim Thomas the Bulls have reserves that are more than capable of contributing solid mintues.  That is why each of the Heat’s big 3 must play well each and every game.

Game 1 of the Chicago Bulls vs Miami Heat will be on Sunday Night 5/15 at the United Center in Chicago.

2010-11 NBA East Southeast Division Preview

Disocunt Orlando Magic TicketsIn part 2 of our 2010 NBA Preview we will be taking a look at the NBA Eastern Conference Southeast Division. This is no doubt one of the best conferences in the NBA loaded with good young talent and mega-superstars.  Not only do you have the Miami Heat stacked with Lebron, Wade, and Bosh, but you also have strong Orlando Magic and  Atlanta Hawks teams.

#1.  Miami Heat

Additions:  Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Eddie House, Mike Miller, Juwan Howard

Subtractions:  Quentin Richardson, Jermaine O’Neal, and Michael Beasley

Overview:  The Miami Heat are the easy favorites to win the NBA title with the addition of Lebron James and Chris Bosh to Dwayne Wade’s team.  There are certainly questions about the rest of the Heat team and who will be the “Man” but any team with 3 legitimate superstars will be sure to contend for a title.  With every fan and NBA team gunning for them it should make for an interesting season.

Ticket Demand:   A+++

Although the Miami Heat are not in the greatest sports market, the presence of Lebron James and Chris Bosh with Wade has generated a tremendous amount of buzz.  Combine the star power with the fact that this team will likely contend for a NBA title and ticket demand can’t be any greater.

#2.  Orlando Magic

Additions:  Quentin Richardson, Chris Duhon, Daniel Orton

Subtractions:  Matt Barnes

Overview:  With all the hoopla surrounding the Miami Heat this season many people are forgetting about the talented team in Orlando.  The Magic also have star power in Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis, and Vince Carter. The defending Southeast champs they will not hand over the crown easily.

Ticket Demand:   B+

Although Florida’s attention to basketball will be focused on Miami, fans in Orlando are excited about their chances as well.  Ticket demand for games against Miami should be huge!

#3.  Atlanta Hawks

Additions:  Josh Powell, Jordan Crawford

Subtractions:  None

Overview:  If you think the Orlando Magic are getting no respect in the Eastern Conference, have a look at the Atlanta Hawks.  The Hawks won 53 games last season and finished behind only the Cavs, who lost Lebron, and the Orlando Magic.  Joe Johnson and Josh Smith are back with a team that lost no one from last year and hope to build upon last year’s impressive season.

Ticket Demand:   B+

The NBA market in Atlanta is strong and with a solid team and marketable players like Joe Johnson and Josh Smith, ticket demand will be strong.

#4.  Washington Wizards

Additions:  John Wall, Kirk Hinrich, Trevor Booker, Yi Jianlian

Subtractions:  Randy Foye, Shaun Livingston, Mike Miller

Overview:  There is a lot of hype surrounding rookie John Wall and this team could be surprisingly good if Gilbert Arenas can adjust to being a shooting guard.  Expect some growing pains this season especially in a tough South East conference with several games against tough Miami, Orlando, and Atlanta teams

Ticket Demand:   B-

The Washington DC area is a strong sports market but interest has been low since the failed Jordan era ended.  Rookie John Wall will bring some excitement back to the Wizards franchise but they are likely a few years away from being a significant threat in the East.

#5.  Charlotte Bobcats

Additions:  Tyrus Thomas, Shaun Livingston, Matt Carroll, Eduardo Najera, Kwame Brown

Subtractions:  Raymond Felton, Tyson Chandler, Alexis Ajinca, Theo Ratliff

Overview:  When the most talked about player on the Bobcats squad is Chicago Bulls cast off Tyrus Thomas, you know you have problems. Bobcats fans will be looking for another lottery pick next summer.

Ticket Demand:   D+

North Carolina is certain a state with strong ties to basketball but this teams leaves little for fans to be excited about.  With no superstar players, a dismal team, and mediocre market, ticket demand for Bobcats games is expected to be low.

King James to Join Wade and Bosh in Miami – Tickets in High Demand!

Lebron James in a Heat Uniform

With Lebron James joining Wade and Bosh in Miami, tickets are in big demand!

It’s  official, Lebron James will be joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat.  After months of speculation and rumors King James decided to take the cowardly road and join 2 superstar NBA players in his quest for a NBA Championship.  While I must I am a little disappointed he didn’t join the Bulls, Lebron heading to Miami makes the least amount of sense to me.  Although playing with Wade and Bosh alone is certainly better than anything Cleveland could have put together in the foreseeable future, what does it say about Lebron’s confidence in his own ability to win a championship?  To me he is admitting that he doesn’t think he can win one on his own.

As I admitted I am a Bulls fan but I believe James should have stayed in Cleveland.  Did Michael Jordan bail on the Bulls in the early years while getting beat up by the Pistons year after year?  No.  Lebron is only 25 and could have cemented his place in NBA history if he could bring 1 championship to the Cavs.  Now, at best, Lebron will forever be known as a player who could not build nor win a championship on his own. That is assuming he wins any championships in Miami. Wade has had injury trouble and Bosh is probably a bit overrated.  Factor in that the Heat will have to fill the roster with 9 other players with nothing to offer but the NBA minimum salary and you really have to wonder how good this team will actually be.  Even with the Big 3 in Miami I think the LA Lakers are a better team and match up just fine with the new Heat.  Wade vs Artest, Kobe vs Lebron, Bosh vs Gasol…pretty even right?  Who will the Heat have to matchup with  Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odum?  Derek Fisher?  Winning the NBA East will not be a given either as Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will be returning with KG and Rajon Rondo.  Again, as good as these 3 are it takes a team to win and NBA title and I can’t see Miami fielding a “Team” with the $5 or so they have left.

I would have even been happy to see him go to New York, New Jersey,or Chicago as at least in either of those cities he would be part of building a team.  In that respect Chicago would have made the most sense as he would be the Alpha dog of a young and upcoming team with one of the best point guards in the Game with 21 year old Derek Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, and Carlos Boozer.   Enough of the rant…while this news is not good for all the players in the free agent lottery, it has been great for Miami Heat tickets sales.  Miami Heat Season Tickets are already sold out and that was before King James made his announcements.   Already Miami Heat tickets have become one of the most searched for item on Free Tickets Classifieds.  If you are looking for good deals on tickets make sure to check our Miami Heat Ticket section.
