2011 NFL Preseason Power Rankings

Clay-Matthews

Clay Matthews and the Green Bay Packers will be looking to get back to the Super Bowl in 2011

Now that the labor dispute between the NFL owners and the union formerly known as the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association) appears over, it’s time to starting thinking football – NFL Football!  With the largest collection of free agents EVER on the market, a lot is still yet to be determined.  Top Free Agents such as Nnamdi Asomugha (CB), Carl Nicks (G), Jonathan Joseph (CB), Santonio Holmes (WR), Sidney Rice (WR), DeAngelo Williams (RB), Ray Edwards (DE), Stephen Tulloch (LB), Brandon Mebane (DT), Davin Joseph (G), and Doug Free (OT) will certainly have an impact on the rankings once their future is decided.  However, we are an impatient bunch and we want our rankings now!  So without further adeiu, here are your 2011 NFL Preseason Power Rankings…

2011 NFL Preseason Power Rankings

1.  Green Bay Packers

Defending a Super Bowl title is normally highly unlikely but its hard to pick against the Green Bay Packers in 2011.  They have a stud young quarterback in Aaron Rodgers and a ton of talent on both sides of the ball.  Considering how much time many key players lost to injury last year they should have ‘fresh legs’ in 2011.

2.  Pittsburgh Steelers

As usual, there are lots of rumors surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers but somehow this teams always seems to put it together when it counts.  They still have a tough defense and a solid running game in spite of whoever may be throwing the ball this season.

3.  New England Patriots

The New England Patriots will go as far as Tom Brady takes them.   With Mr. Brady healthy and ready to go, the big question will be their offensive line.  Given Bill Belichick’s propensity for  hiding weaknesses and getting the most of his talent, expect the Pats to be title contenders in 2011.

4.  Indianapolis Colts

Although many are predicting the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning to be on the decline, don’t count them out in 2011.  The Colts appeared to have addressed their offensive line woes and Mr. Manning has shown no signs of slowing down.

5.  Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan and the young Atlanta Falcons appear to be ready to take the next step and become a dominant force in the NFC.  If they can add a legitimate WR through free agency, this team could be extremely dangerous!

6.  Chicago Bears

Jay Cutler may have broke off his engagement to Kristen Cavallari but he has to be happy that the Chicago Bears are attempting to revamp their offensive line. Good thing the lockout didn’t cut into preseason so the entire unit will have a chance to gel.  If the offensive line can give Jay Cutler some time to throw down field this team will be REALLY dangerous.

7.  Baltimore Ravens

The defense is certainly aging (i.e. Ray Lewis) but the development of Joe Flaco and the addition of Anquan Boldin makes the Baltimore Ravens a deep and balanced team.

8.  NY Jets

The New York Jets are certainly getting the swagger of a top NFL team but they still need to develop some sort of pass rush if they are to win will playing ‘Jets’ football.  If they finally take the kid gloves off of QB Mark Sanchez this team could be a real threat.

9.  Philadelphia Eagles

We reluctantly put the Philadelphia Eagles at #9 on our list despite the fact that their defense and offensive line have some major issues.  The Eagles are here solely for the fact they are rumored to be interested in signing 5 time retiree Bret Farve.

10.  NY Giants

Rounding out the top 10 is the NY Giants of football.  Tom Coughlin’s job will once again be on the line which means somehow he will pull together his troops and make a playoff run.  Tiki Barber for comeback player of the year?

Sleeper Pick

11.  Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a horrible season but they still have loads of talent.  A healthy Tony Romo and the fact that they finally have a competent coach in Jason Garrett and you have the makings of a sleeper team.

The Best of the Rest…

12. New Orleans Saints

13.  KC Chiefs

14.  Tampa Bay Bucaneers

15.  San Diego Chargers

16.  Jacksonville Jaguars

17.  Oakland Raiders

18.  Seattle Seahawks

19.  Tennessee Titans

20.  Miami Dolphins

21.  St. Louis Rams

22.  Houston Texans

23.  Detroit Lions

24.  Washington Redskins

25.  Denver Broncos

26.  San Francisco 49ers

27.  Arizona Cardinals
