Tickifieds Top 10 Events Week 20 2013

Top Events Week 20 (5/7/2013 to 5/14/2013)

1.  One Direction

The lads from One Direction will be officially invading the United States in less than a month now and ticket demand could not be any stronger.  Fans young and old are really amping up their search for those hard to get Meet and Greet, VIP and Sound Check packages.  Unfortunately inventory is extremely limited.

2.  Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins had one of the most exciting finishes to a NHL Playoff game/series in recent memory.  The Bruins were down 2 goals with 90 seconds remaining in a critical game 7 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.  The Bruins advance to the second round and will face the NY Rangers starting with game 1 on Thursday.

3.  Selena Gomez

Pop princess Selena Gomez returns to the top 10 this week at an impressive #3.  The little peak in interest in Selena Gomez tickets is likely due to the amount of airplay her latest single off her new album  ”Come and Get it” is getting.  Popular Selena Gomez shows include San Antonio, Boston and Toronto.

4.  Manchester City – Chelsea FC

Yankee Stadium will play host to two of Europe’s most popular soccer clubs this summer.  Manchester City will be taking on Chelsea FC in an international friendly on Saturday May 25th in the Bronx.  Tickets are seemingly in big demand for this Man City – Chelsea FC matchup!

5.  Michael Buble

6.  Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies are up 3-1 against the defending NBA Western Conference Champion OKC Thunder.  As such many experts are picking the Grizz to represent the West in the NBA Finals where they would likely matchup against the Miami Heat.

7.  Jimmy Buffett

Nothing says summer like Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band.  JB tickets for shows in East Troy Wisconsin (Alpine Valley), Chicago Illinois (Northerly Island) and Detroit Michigan (Comerica Park) are particularily hot right now.

8.  Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings made it through to the 2nd round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs and will face the heated rival Chicago Blackhawks.  Game 1 takes place tonight in Chicago, with Game 2 on Saturday 5/18.  The Series will head to Detroit for Game 3 on Wednesday 5/22.

9.  Darius Rucker

Most people know Darius Rucker as the infamous “Hootie” of Hootie and the Blowfish.  However, Darius has reinvented himself as a country music star.  His latest hit song “Wagon Wheel” is getting a ton of airplay.  Popular stops on his summer tour include Bethlehem PA, Greensboro NC and Savannah GA.

10.  Darren Criss

The darling of the Tickifieds Top 10 is starting to slide and is just barely hanging on at #10 this week.  Popular Darren Criss concerts this week include Cleveland, Toronto and Minneapolis.

NCAA Tournament Tickets in Demand – Tickifieds Top 10

IndianaHoosiersNCAATournamentAs expected, the NCAA Tournament is in the spotlight again this week.  After an exciting first few rounds of the tournament, we are down to the final 16 teams spread out across each of the 4 regions.    The East Region consists of Marquette, Miami, Syracuse and Indiana.  The Midwest contains Michigan State, Duke, Louisville and Oregon.  Michigan, Kansas, Florida and Florida Gulf Coast make up the South Region.  Lastly, the West will feature Arizona, Ohio State, Wichita State and La Salle.

Although there are lots of unexpected teams (see Oregon, Florida Gulf Coast, Wichita State, La Salle, etc.), the Big 10 has lived up to expectations placing four teams in the Sweet Sixteen.  I can’t imagine anyone out their still with a perfect bracket!

Top Events Week 11 (3/19/2013 to 3/26/2013)

1.  NCAA Tournament

The 2013 NCAA Tournament field is down to the “Sweet Sixteen” and is headed for regional action.  As such, ticket demand is extremely strong for the Midwest, East, South, and West Regionals.

2. One Direction

Despite the fact that the NCAA tournament has outshined them the past two weeks, demand for One Direction tickets has not slowed one bit. Fans are still eagerly looking for the best deals on several of the rapidly approaching 2013 shows.  Hot concerts this week include Los Angeles, Tinley Park and Hershey.

3.  CONCACAF Gold Cup

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is being hosted by the United States this year much to the delight of soccer fans.  Popular matches include USA vs Costa Rica, Panama vs Canada, USA vs Belize, and the Gold Cup Final at Soldier Field in Chicago.

5.  Kenny Chesney

Country music’s version of Jimmy Buffett has also been popular this week.  Top shows include Angel Stadium, Columbia South Carolina and Target Field with the Zac Brown Band.

6.  Milwaukee Summerfest

Interest in the world’s largest music festival is gaining steam as more and more performers are starting to leak out.  Already confirmed for 2013 are Fun (with Tegan and Sara), Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Jason Aldean, New Kids on the Block with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, Tim McGraw, Rush and the Vans Warped Tour.  Get more details at 2013 Milwakee Summerfest Schedule.

7.  Chicago Cubs

The Cubs might still be a few years away from contending for a World Series title but that has not stopped fans from gobbling up tickets.   Cubs home opener tickets are drawing the most interest with games against the White Sox coming in a close second.

8.  Milwaukee Brewers

The team that plays at Wrigley Field North is also generating a fair amount of fan interest. That said, the most popular Brewers games appear to against the Chicago Cubs.

9.  Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi’s 2013 Tour is still going strong especially for concerts at the intimate indoor venues happening this spring.  Popular shows include Omaha, San Jose and Kansas City.

10.  Detroit Tigers

The City of Detroit may be a vacant wasteland but at least they have the Detroit Tigers going for them.  Demand should remain strong as the Tigers are expected to contend for a World Series title again this year.

Let the Madness Begin – Tickifieds Top 10

2013 Big 10 Tournament

The Indiana Hoosiers will look to defend their Big 10 Championship with the tournament crown at the United Center in Chicago from 3/14 to 3/17/2013.

Well, it looks like Emblem3′s challenge to One Direction was a bit premature.  After surging last week to #2 in the Tickifieds Top 10, Emblem3 drops all the way down to #10.  Although interest in Emblem3 concert tickets has died down to some degree, keep in mind the California boys currently only have 6 shows on the schedule (Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Boston and 2 shows in Chicago).  If they end up adding more shows the could still put up a fight.  Until then, consider 1D the current kings.

Aside from the boy band drama, this week is dominated by college basketball.  Not only do we have NCAA Tournament games near the top, the college basketball tournament games are also drawing a lot of ticket interest.  In particular, the Big 10 Tournament is really raking in the visitors as all tournament games at the United Center in Chicago are sold out. Also making the list this week is the Big East, SEC and ACC Basketball Tournaments.

Top Events Week 9 (3/4/2013 to 3/11/2013)

1.  One Direction

One Direction is still king of event tickets but a brand new challenger has come to the forefront – Emblem3.  How much longer can ID continue to dominate the event ticket market?

2. Big 10 Basketball Tournament

The Big 10 is as strong as ever this year and fans are excited about this year’s tournament.  Games begin on Thursday with Session 1 and Session 2.  Session 1 will feature Illinois vs Minnesota and Michigan vs Penn State while Session 2 will feature Purdue vs Nebraska and Iowa vs Northwestern.  The #3 Indiana Hoosiers were the regular season champs and will look to win the tourney as well.

3.  NCAA Tournament

Although Selection Sunday will not take place until 3/17/2013, many fans are already scouting the secondary ticket market for deals on NCAA Tournament tickets.  Expect demand to sky rocket once the seeds are announced.

4.  ACC Basketball Tournament

The ACC might be a bit down this year but that will just add to the drama of the 2013 ACC Basketball Tournament.  The Miami Hurricanes nailed down the #1 seed, with Duke #2, North Carolina #3 and Virginia #4.  The Tourney will begin with Session 1 and Session 2 beginning on Thursday 3/14/2013

5.  Jimmy Buffett

Spring must be in the air as that could be the only explanation as to why the king of the summer outdoor concert makes the list in mid-March.  Popular shows thus far include 4/30 Lakewood AmphitheaterJones Beach 8/20 and 8/24 at Alpine Valley.

6.  Dave Matthews Band

Another band that is synonymous with outdoor venues in the summer, DMB comes in at #6 this week.  Popular 2013 Dave Matthews Band shows include 5/17 Woodlands Pavilion, Alpine Valley on 7/5 and 7/12 at Riverbend Amphitheater with OAR!

7.  Big East Basketball Tournament

The last year of the Big East as we know has fans eager to be there for the 2013 Tournament.  The tournament will be held at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday 3/12 with Session 1 (South Florida vs. Seton Hall and DePaul vs. Rutgers) and Session 2 (Cincinnati vs. Providence and Syracuase).

8.  SEC Basketball Tournament

The SEC is traditionally a football conference but the Kentucky Wildcats have always kept the conference in the National spotlight.  This year the Wildcats are rebuilding lost out to the Florida Gators for the conference regular season championship.  The 2013 SEC Tournament will begin on 3/13 and will continue through Sunday 3/17 in Nashville.

9.  Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Rocker Tom Petty recently announced plans to tour the US  with the Heartbreakers following extended stints in Los Angeles and New York.  Popular shows include 6/20 in Pittsburgh, 6/28 in Milwaukee (Summerfest) and 6/29 at Target Field.

10.  Emblem3

Although the boys from Emblem3 dropped 8 spots to #10 this week, the addition of more shows could spark more interest down the line.   While who knows what the future holds, be sure to keep an eye on these guys! The 2013 Tour includes shows in Philadelphia, New York,  Freehold NJ, Boston, and two shows in Chicago.

Top Weekend Events July 15 – 17

Yay Wednesday!

Well, the top thing that stood out to me for this weekend is that those Ontario-ans certainly want to get out of the house this weekend.  Three Ontario events made the top events for this weekend, including the Jimmy Buffett show, Vans Warped Tour and the Taylor Swift show.  The Vans Warped Tour in Mississauga has an impressive lineup including 3oh!3, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Devil Wears Prada, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, Madina Lake, NOFX, A Day to Remember and MANY others.  This is sure to be a really fun concert experience.   Taylor Swift has recovered from her bronchitis last and resumes her Speak Now tour.  Taylor will be playing in Ontario on both Friday and Saturday.  Jimmy Buffett shows up again on this list, unsurprisingly.  His current song with the Zac Brown Band, Knee Deep, is a huge hit on the country music stations at the moment.

Sir Paul McCartney kicks off his five city tour this weekend in the Big Apple.  He plays both Friday and Saturday at Yankee Stadium then moves on to Detroit (Sunday, July 24), Montreal (Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday July 27), Chicago (Sunday, July 31 and Monday, August 1) then concludes in Cincinnati on Thursday, August 4th.   The former Beatles band mate will be playing all his shows in ballparks.  Should be a great time!

Eddie Vedder returns to his roots and the home of grunge music this weekend for a Seattle show.  The lead singer of Pearl Jam has taken his solo tour on the road and is exceptionally popular.

Brad Paisley, NKOTB and O.A.R. come up again on the top weekend list as they are perpetually popular for summertime concerts.

For your sporting news, the LA Galaxy soccer team will host the Spanish soccer superstars the Real Madrid this weekend.  This is the first time since 2007 that the Galaxy will play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as part of the 2011 World Football Challenge.  Of note, Mr. Posh and all around hunk, David Beckham has played for both teams.  This is a rematch of last year’s very exciting match played at the Rose Bowl.

2011 Concert Tickets Sales Rebound

U2 still the top concert in town!

U2 is still the king as they top the list of 2011 Concerts with $85.8 million in gross revenue.

According to the Pollstar Mid Year Business Analysis, 2011 concert ticket sales are well ahead of the 2010 pace.  The top 100 North American tours have grossed 1.2 billion dollars thus far-  a 157 million more than the previous year (16.2%).  The jump in revenue can be largely attributed to a substantial increase in average ticket price.  In the first half of 2011, the average ticket price increased by $6.25 (or 10.2%).  Although the increasing price of tickets certainly influenced the bottom-line, more tickets were also sold in 2011.  This year 16.7 million tickets have been sold in comparison to the 15.9 million in 2010- an increase of 5.3%. All in all, this data suggests that the demand for concert tickets has rebounded from a very sluggish 2010.

Not surprising, U2 was the highest grossing North American tour in the first half of 2011.  Through 6/30/2011, U2 has sold nearly 1 million tickets with an average price of almost $88 each.  Their 11 city /14 show tour has netted  $85.8 million or an average of $7.8 million per show.

Coming in a distant #2 is Lady Gaga whose 38 city / 40 show tour sold 674,795 tickets with an average ticket price of a whopping $96.77 (gross $65.3 Mil).  Rounding out the top 5 are Bon Jovi ($57.4 mil), Kenny Chesney ($46.7 mil), and Luis Miguel ($33.9 mil).  Young country music star Taylor Swift came in at #6 with a gross of $29.5 million just ahead of Elton John ($28.0 mil), Lil Wayne ($26.3 mil), Celine Dion (23.9 mil), and Rod Stewart & Stevie Nicks ($22.2 mil).

Many other acts did not make the top 10 in total gross revenue but had extremely high average grosses.  These acts will likely produce solid numbers in the second half of 2011.  These performers include:  Marco Antonio Solis ($1.1 mil per show), Mana ($2.5 mil per show), Shakira ($1.4 mil per show), Eric Clapton ($1.1 mil per show), Chayenne ($1.2 mil per show), Phish ($1.0 mil per show), George Strait with Reba & Lee Ann Womack ($1.0 mil per show), and Price ($1.1 mil per show).

Other high grossing performer include:  Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band, Rush, Iron Maiden, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rammstein, Enrique Iglesias, Rihanna, Jimmy Buffet, Janet Jackson, and New Kids on the Block / Backstreet Boys.  Look for these acts to be some of the most popular events this summer and fall.
