John Mellencamp tour announcement!

John Mellencamp recently announced his No Better Than This Tour (Fall 2011 Leg).  Tickets will go on sale Friday, August 5 at 10 AM Local.  The seventeen-date tour kicks off October 25 at Boston’s Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theater and will conclude in Savannah, GA, at the Johnny Mercer Theater on November 11.

Mellencamp, a Southern Indiana native, has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and has accrued 22 top 40 hits in the US.  His latest album which the tour is named after, No Better Than This, was released on August 17th, 2010 and has received much critical acclaim.

He is also a founding member of Farm Aid, an organization that started in 1985 with a concert in Champaign, IL to raise awareness about the loss of family farms  and to raise money to keep these family farms.  To date, Farm Aid has raised over $39 million.  This year’s Farm Aid will take place on August 13th at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS.

Of noted interest, is the fact that this latest string of No Better Than This Tour dates closes with a performance at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis (near Mellencamp’s hometown of Bloomington), the location of one of the tour’s earliest stops last year. The Indianapolis Star called that performance “the most forward-thinking road show in Mellencamp’s Hall of Fame career.”

Top Weekend Events 2/26 – 28

Ok, so your Wednesday post is a Thursday morning post.  Oh well.  You’re just going to have to deal.

Country musicThis weekend’s top events are dominated but music.   All forms of music, from pop to country club.  As previously mentioned, Mr. Kid Rock fits into all these categories.  He’s such a chameleon.  His Born Free Tour is exceptionally popular.  Also reappearing on this list is former Phish front man, Trey Anastasio.  Representing  the country music world are Jason Aldean, who frequently appears with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, and John Mellencamp.  Jason Aldean is cute, he’s talented, what’s not to love about him?  John Mellencamp also reappears on this list with his country rock style which has been exceptionally popular for decades.  It’s possible for him to perform old classics like “Pink Houses” and “Jack and Diane.”  Not to be forgotten is club music superstar Kesha.  The kids love her digitized vocal sound with out of control party antics.

George Lopez also shows up on his list for his hysterically funny comedy show.  His “Lopez Tonight” tour  is selling out well, particularly with the Latino community.  The Fox Theatre in Atlanta is going to be busy this weekend!

For your sporting events to take notice of, the Clippers vs. Celtics game, Coyotes vs. Blackhawks game, the Loyola vs. Butler game, as well as the Bashas Supermarket 200 racing event.  For the Clippers vs. Celtics, it’s East vs. West is an awesome rematch from their December 27th game where the Clippers won by 2 points.  Rajon Rondo and Baron David are sure to be equally matched again.  The Blackhawks are still defending their 2010 Stanley Cup championship.    The Bashas is another NASCAR  Nationwide Series event held in Arizona and features race record Jeff Burton, 2000 (115.145 m.p.h.) and Qualifying record: Joey Logano, 2010 (134.048 m.p.h.) .

So stay tuned for an exciting last weekend in February!

Top Weekend Events 2/18 – 2/20

It’s Wednesday, it’s Wednesday!  It’s time to find out the most popular events happening this weekend!

This Wednesday’s list is heavy on the music, which is a large departure from Wednesday’s past.  The type of music runs the gamut from country to class rock to pop.  The always intriguing Lady Gaga finally makes her first appearance on the list with her show in New Jersey, her homestate.  By the way, did you see her costume at the Grammys??  What the heck was up with her egg outfit?  I’m sure her outfits will not disappoint at this event either.

Kid Rock has had so much success in every genre of music so far.  He really is a “Horse of a Different Color.”  He goes seamlessly from rock to rap to country to even a little (dare I say?) easy listening.  What should not be expected is a boring show.  The man knows how to perform.

The San Antonio Rodeo had a most impressive line-up of events, 2 of which are showing up on our Wednesday list.  Country stars Josh Turner and Martina McBride are coveted performances to attend and also the last two music events at the SAR.    Some of the other’s that previously performed were  Miranda Lambert, Styx, Clay Walker, Train, Reba McEntire, Bill Engvall, Toby Keith and Lady Antebellum.

Perennial rock favorite, John Mellencamp also makes an appearance on the list with his New York Show at the Radio City Music Hall.  His latest album, No Better Than This, was released on August 17th, 2010 and has been greeted with substantial approval.

Hockey is one of the biggest sports still in regular season at the moment and thus is drawing a lot of attention.  The Heritage Classic taking place in Calgary, Alberta will pit the Calgary Flames vs. the Montreal Canadiens, two extremely good Canadian teams.  This is going to be quite the event!

The NBA Allstars game also takes place this weekend.  This event matches the best players in the Eastern Conference against the best players in the Western Conference.  The coaches are selected  by looking at which current teams have the most wins in their conference through the Sunday 2-weeks prior the All-Star game.  Some notable players will include Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams, Kevin Love, Derrick Rose and Kobe Bryant.

Two Big 10 teams face on the 19th, OSU vs. Purdue in Indiana.

And the Daytona 500 reigns supreme over the Wednesday Weekend list once again with more exciting racing events!  Be sure to tune in!

1.)    2011 Daytona 500, Daytona International Speedway, FL 02/20/2011

2.)    NBA All Star Game,  Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA 2/20/2011

3.)    Purdue vs. Ohio State,  Mackey Arena, West Lafayette, IN 2/19/2011

4.)    Bruins vs. Senators, Scotiabank Place, Ottawa,  2/18/2011

5.)    Lady Gaga, Broadwalk Hall, New Jersey 2/19/2011

6.)    Kid Rock – Bridgestone Arena,  Nashville, TN 2/18/2011

7.)    Heritage Classic, McMahon Stadium, Calgary, AB  – 2/20/2011

8.)    John Mellencamp –  Radio City Music Hall, New York City 02/19/2011

9.)    San Antonio Rodeo – Josh Turner, San Antonio Texas 02/19/2011

10.) San Antonio Rodeo – Martina McBride, San Antonio Texas 02/18/2011
