The Return of Teen Pop – Tickifieds Top 10

Jonas Brothers 2013 TourIf there was a theme to this weeks top ten it would have to be all about comebacks.  Yeah, One Direction is still on top but this week we saw the return of several other pop stars who once dominated the Tickifieds Top 10 at some point in their careers.  Not only did Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber earn their way back into the top 10 but the Jonas Brothers appear to be back as well.

If only the New Kids on the Block, who are currently touring with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, can gain a little traction the top 10 would really be dominated by bumble gum pop acts.  Fortunately, some other events did make the list.  Let’s take a look at the rest of this week’s list….

Top Events Week 13 (4/1/2013 to 4/8/2013)

1.  One Direction

Without any massive on sale events or premiere sporting events to think of, One Direction easily defeated all other challengers.  Unless there is a major concert announcement in the work, expect 1D to remain at the top until the NBA and NHL playoffs start.

2.  Chicago Blackhawks

A bit of a surprise here as the Blackhawks have been floundering of late.  However, the best team in hockey has fans that are amped up for another run at the Stanley Cup.  Fan are really searching for 2013 Blackhawks Playoff tickets.

3.  Taylor Swift

Much like Justin Bieber, this week Taylor Swift is enjoying somewhat of a resurgence.  Tickets to quite a few of her sold out 2013 Red Tour concerts saw a huge spike in traffic.  Popular Taylor Swift concerts coming up include 4/20 in Tampa Bay5/12 in Washington DC and 5/22 in San Antonio.

4.  Kid Rock

Kid Rock recently announced the second leg of his 2013 tour and ticket demand sky rocketed.  Joining Kid Rock on tour at select shows will be Uncle Kracker, Kool and the Gang and ZZ Top.  The most popular shows right now include the Woodlands Pavilion on 7/19, Atlanta on 9/14 and the Nebraskaland Days on 6/21.

5.  Jonas Brothers

Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas are back at it and will be out on tour this summer.  While they aren’t as popular as they once were, they are certainly drawing plenty of attention from the Generation Y’ers.  Popular concerts include 7/23 in Hartford, 7/16 at Blossom and 7/20 Jones Beach.

6.  Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals continue to be one of the most exciting teams in baseball with the likes of young stars like Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasberg.

7.  LA Galaxy

It’s not all that surprising that the defending MLS Cup Champion LA Galaxy make the list. Even without David Beckham, the Galaxy continue to draw large crowds.

8.  Honda Civic Tour

The 2013 Honda Civic Tour will feature Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson and Rozzi Crane.  As you would expect, ticket demand has been more than solid.  Hot shows for this bunch include 9/14 at the Cruzan Amphitheater, 9/8 in Virginia Beach and 9/28 at the Gorge.

9.  Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber returns to the top 10 after a loooong hiatus.  The increase in traffic is somewhat surprising as he is about to finish up his european tour and isn’t scheduled to perform in the US until June. Nonetheless, popular shows include San Diego on 6/22Chicago on 7/9 and Brooklyn NY on 8/2.

10.  Luke Bryan

Country music star Luke Bryan continues to draw heavy interest for his 2013 Dirt Road Diaries Tour.  Popular upcoming shows include 7/21 Noblesville IN, 7/27 Phoenix AZ and 6/15 Tinley Park IL.

This top 10 list is compiled from internal search data from Tickifieds.com and organic traffic from search engines.  Search terms are ranked by using a combination of both sources of search data.

1D Back on Top, Rolling Stones Surge – Tickifieds Top 10

Rolling Stones 50 and Counting Tour LogoAfter a few weeks out of the spotlight, One Direction regains that Tickifieds Top 10 Throne.  However, it could be somewhat short-lived if rock legends the Rolling Stones have anything to say about it.  The Stones recently announced plans to tour the US this summer and tickets just went on sale today.  Considering the Stones really only had 1 day of search traffic, coming in at number 2 this week is pretty impressive.

Also new to the list this week are some NBA basketball teams.  With the 2013 regular season rapidly coming to a close, now is the time to start marketing NBA playoff tickets.  High on sports fans wish list thus far are the upstart LA Clippers and the defending NBA Champion Miami Heat.

Let’s take a look at this week’s list….

Top Events Week 13 (4/1/2013 to 4/8/2013)

1.  One Direction

With the NCAA Tournament now complete, One Direction has resume their rightful place atop the Tickifieds standings.  Popular shows this week include Dallas 7/22, Wantagh (Jones Beach) 6/29 and Tinley Park 7/13.

2.  Rolling Stones

Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones recently announced plans to hit the road in 2013 to celebrate 50 years of rockin’ out!  The 50 and Counting tour is generating a lot of buzz which is understandable as it might be the last opportunity to see the legendary band.  Popular stops on the tour include 3 shows in Chicago 5/12, Las Vegas 6/28 and Boston 6/12.

3.  Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers are looking mighty good these days and have clearly eclipsed the Lakers.  With playoff tickets on sale now, Clippers fans are eager to get things started.

4.  Honda Civic Tour

The 2013 Honda Civic Tour will feature Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson and Rozzi Crane.  Hot shows right now include Charlotte on 9/11/2013, Darien Lake on 9/4/2013 and Irvine CA on 10/4/2013.

5. Toby Keith

Beer drinkers rejoice, Toby Keith is coming to a town near you this summer.  Join Toby on the 2013 Hammer Down Tour will be fellow country artist Kip Moore.  Popular shows include Bristow VA 8/24, Cincinnati 6/14 and Pittsburgh 6/15.

6.  Jonas Brothers

If you hadn’t had enough of the boy bands lately, the Jonas Brothers are making a comeback.  The Bros. will be out touring to promote a new album due out sometime this summer.  Popular with Jonas Brothers fans are the meet and greet passes and shows in Cincinnati (Riverbend), Darien Lake and Toronto.

7.  Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are fresh off a historic winning streak and are gearing up for the 2013 NBA Playoffs.  They should be able to breeze through the Eastern Conference with a little challenge from the likes of the NY Knicks and Indiana Pacers.

8.  Luke Bryan

Country music star Luke Bryan is having a pretty good year.  His 2013 Dirt Road Diaries Tour is selling like gangbusters and he just took home the Male Entertainer of the Year Award at the Academy of Country Music Awards.  He’s also on the 2013 Country Megaticket circuit- Hot shows for Luke Bryan include Atlanta 7/14, Saratoga Springs 8/25 and Hartford 5/31.

9. 2013 Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza 2013 tickets recently went on sale and quickly sold out.  Not surprising as the lineup is absolutely loaded.  Schedule to perform are The Cure, Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Queens of the Stone Age, The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Eric Church and many more.

10.  Depeche Mode

The 80’s are back as Depeche Mode has big tour plans in 2013.  Popular shows include Los Angeles 9/28, Phoenix 10/8 and Tinley Park 8/24.

This top 10 list is compiled from internal search data from Tickifieds.com and organic traffic from search engines.  Search terms are ranked by using a combination of both sources of search data.

Top Events of 2012

Top Events of 2012Happy new year!! It’s that time of year where we reflect upon the past year and start looking toward the future.  Confucius once said, “Study the past if you wish to define the future….”.  With that in mind we will look at some of the top ticketed events in 2012 and analyze what it means for 2013.  If 2013 is anything like 2012 be sure to start marketing top pop and country performers and be on the look out for growing segments of the like electronic/techno music and international soccer.  Also don’t forget about popular, yet under-marketed sports like NASCAR.

Top Events of 2012

1.  One Direction

There is no denying the fact that One Direction dominated the event ticket market in 2012.  In 2013 expect that trend to continue as their 2013 tour is sold out across the world.  That means that fans will be looking to the secondary ticket market to secure tickets to their concerts.  Although selling One Direction tickets is extremely competitive, you can make inroads by focusing on niche tickets (e.g. front row, meet and greet, VIP, etc.).

2.  International Soccer

We had to lump a few events here to have these international soccer matches come in at number 2 but there is no denying that soccer is growing as a sport in the U.S.  2012 saw a lot of matches between some of the most popular soccer clubs in the world and several MLS teams.  In 2013 keep your eye out for these international friendlies featuring teams like FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Chelsea, Liverpool, as well as the US, Mexico, and Canadian National Teams.

3. Electronic Music

Another fast growing segment of the event ticket industry is electronic or techno music.  It was a really good year for artists such as Skrillex, Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Amon Tobin, Avicii, Steve Aoki, Girl Talk, Bassnectar, DJ Tiesto and Pretty Lights.  Look out for performances by any of these artists in 2013 including some of the popular electronic music festivals.

4. Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson’s 2012 Stronger Tour was a smashing success.  While Kelly has not announced any major tour plans for 2013 she will be playing with Jason Aldean at his special Wrigley Field concert.  If Ms. Clarkson’s popularity has taught us anything it’s that performers who can bridge genres (country and pop in particular) seem to do extremely well.  As such we expect Taylor Swift to have a huge 2013.

5.  Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean is one of the hottest country music performers around right now.  He had a fantastic 2012 that began with the tail leg of his 2012 My Kinda Party Tour and ended with the announcement of his 2013 Night Train Tour.  2013 should be another big year for Mr. Aldean as his solo stadium tours including a show at Fenway Park have already sold out.

6. NASCAR

It’s no secret that NASCAR is one of the most popular sports in the US.  However, most event ticket marketers ignore that sport for some reason.  The sport should continue to grow in 2013- especially the Sprint Cup Series.  Some of the more popular races include the Daytona 500, Food City 500, Samsung 500, Sprint Showdown and All-Star Race XXVIII, Coca-Cola 600, Bank of America 500, Brickyard 400 and the AAA Texas 500.

7.  Taylor Swift

What is remarkable about Taylor Swift’s appearance at #7 is that she was only relevant for the last few months of the year following the announcement of her 2013 Red Tour.  Taylor Swift’s popularity across multiple genres and age groups gives her a shot at challenging One Direction for the top spot in 2013.

8.  Eric Chruch

Country music’s Eric Church saw his star climb to new heights in 2012 with his solo Blood, Sweat and Beers Tour. 2013 should be just as good as Eric Church will continue his solo tour through february before joining Kenny Chesney on his No Shoes Nation Tour.  Country music appears to be here to stay so be sure to be on the lookout for the next big thing.

9.  Notre Dame Football

While college football is always a steady performer, usually a team comes from no where to capture the attention of the nation.  This year it was Notre Dame who came out of nowhere to become the #1 team in the Nation and earn a trip to the BCS Championship game.  For 2013 keep an eye out for Texas A&M as freshman Heisman Trophy winner Johnny “Football” Manziel will be getting them lots of national attention.

10.  Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber coming in at #10 is a bit of a surprise.  While just making the top ten is an achievement, many expected the Biebs to performer better.   It just goes to show you how quickly a pop-star can fade and be replaced- especially the young ones.  A lesson for 2013…jump on the next teen pop sensation early!
