Top 10 College Football Games Week 4, 2013)

stanford1It’s hump day and that means it’s time to start looking forward to the weekend.  For many, that means making plans to take in as much college football action as possible!  Whether you plan on going to a game or simply watching from the comfort of your own home, it always good to know which games demand your viewing priority and which you can just read about at a later time.  With that in mind, we have put together a handy guide for the top 10 college football game of week 4, 2013.

1). #5 Stanford vs #23 Arizona State Sun Devils (9/21 FOX 6:00 PM CT)

This week’s game of the week is the only match-up that features two ranked teams – Stanford and Arizona State.  These two PAC 12 teams will be looking to get a much needed statement win under their belts.  Although Arizona State already has an impressive win against the Wisconsin Badgers under their belts, it wasn’t without controversy.  Stanford as also looked pedestrian thus far with narrow wins against San Jose State and Army.  If Stanford has National Championship aspirations this year they will need a strong showing against ASU.

#22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Michigan State Spartans (9/21 NBC 2:30 PM CT)

After a tough loss against the other Michigan school from the Big 10 (Michigan Wolverines), Notre Dame will be looking to right the ship against the Spartans.  The #22 Fighting Irish are 7 point favorites, however, the 3-0 MSU Spartans have looked pretty impressive against Western Michigan, South Florida and Youngstown State.  Although this is far from a marquee match-up, Notre Dame has a large fan base that supports their team as evidenced by price of Notre Dame football tickets.

#6 LSU Tigers vs Auburn Tigers (9/21 ESPN 6:45 PM CT)

Although the LSU Tigers are favored by 17 points, you never know what is going to happen when these two 3-0 SEC rivals meet in Baton Rouge.  LSU pulled off a 10 point victory on opening day against the TCU Horned Frog but since have only played cupcake opponents in UAB and Kent State.  Auburn will be looking to make more of a statement after beating Washington State, Arkansas State and Mississippi State.

4).  NC State Wolfpack vs #3 Clemson Tigers (9/19 ESPN 6:30 Pm CT)

NC State will be looking to upset the #3 Clemson Tigers this Saturday in Raleigh.  The 2-0 Wolfpack will be looking to establish their young offense and put their name on the map against a tough Clemson team who beat SEC powerhouse Georgia earlier in the year.  Thus far, Clemson has looked dominant on offense but their defense remains vulnerable.  With a 1 week layoff, Clemson is primed for an upset.

5).  BYU Cougars vs Utah Utes (9/21 ESPN2 9:15 PM CT)

With plenty of college football rivalries going by the wayside these days (see Michigan/Notre Dame, Kansas/Missouri), it’s nice to see traditions continue with the game dubbed “The Holy War”.  This year will mark the 89th meeting between these two schools who will be competing for the “Beehive Boot”.  While college football in Utah is hardly like the South, this game is sure to draw heavy interest.

6).  Virginia Tech Hokies vs Marshall Thundering Herd (9/21 ESPNU 11:30 AM CT)

This game is far from a long standing rivalry but this game will be a little more special due to the fact that Lane Stadium will be under a “white out” for military appreciation day.  To celebrate the US military, VA Tech will be wearing camouflage helmets as reported here.  This will be a must watch game for college football fans in the state of Virginia.

7).  #19 Florida Gators vs Tennessee Volunteers (9/21 CBS 2:30 PM CT)

Despite the fact that the Tennessee Vols have not been relevant in quite some time, there is no love lost between these two SEC rivals.  The #19 ranked Florida Gators (-17) are heavy favorites despite the fact that they didn’t look all that good against an over-matched Toldeo team and lost to in-state rival Miami.  Regardless of the outcome, the Swamp will be rocking this weekend!

8).  #25 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Texas State Bobcats (9/21 FSN Regional 6:00 PM CT)

Although the Texas Tech – Texas State football game is overshadowed by many other in-state rivalries, this game is attracting quite a bit of attention.  For the Red Raiders, this is the final tune up before their bye week and Big 12 Conference play really kicks off with a game against the Kansas Jayhawks on October 5th.  Texas Tech will be looking to build upon impressive wins against SMU and TCU.

9).  #10 Texas A&M vs SMU Mustangs (9/21 ESPNU 6:30 PM CT)

Although the #10 Texas A&M Aggies are 28.5 point favorites against Southern Methodist, Johnny Manziel always attracts an audience.  Aggies fans will be eager to see how Johnny football responds following a tough loss to the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  Regardless of how you feel about the A&M program or Mr. Manziel himself, you can’t help but watch.

10).  #24 Wisconsin Badgers vs Purdue Boilermakers (9/21 ABC Regional 2:30 PM CT)

The #24 Wisconsin Badgers will be looking to rebound from a heart-breaking loss last week at the hands of Arizona State against Big 10 foe Purdue.  The Badgers will open up the conference schedule against the Boilermakers who, despite being just 1-2, put up a good fight against Notre Dame last week.  New Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell has his team steadily improving so this could be a trap game for Wisconsin.  Regardless, the Big 10 opener at Camp Randall Stadium always brings out the fans.

Updated BCS Bowl Game Projections and Week 13 Games of the Week

Since the regular college football season is beginning to wind down, this week we decided to combine our updated BCS Bowl game projections with our top 10 games of week 13.  This is particularly fitting as many of this week’s top games also have huge implications on what match ups will be slated for the post-season bowl games.  Let’s kick things off with a look at the BCS Bowl game projections…

BCS National Championship Game

Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Alabama Crimson Tide – With Kansas State and Oregon both losing on Saturday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are the new #1 team in the nation.  Notre Dame has just 1 game left against the USC Trojans.  This would be a difficult match up if Matt Barkley was expected to play.  Howeverm, without the star QB, Notre Dame fans can pretty much start buying tickets to the BCS National Championship game in New Orleans.  With Oregon and K State out of the way, Alabama is in a good position to return to the big game.  The Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn in the final regualr season game before facing the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.  If the Bulldogs pull off the upset, they would likely earn a trip to NOLA.

Fiesta Bowl

Kansas State Wildcats vs Clemson Tigers – Although Kansas State lost this past Saturday, they will still win the Big 12 and should earn a trip to the Fiesta Bowl at the University of Phoenix Stadium.  However, Clemson is no lock here as they will need to beat South Carolina #13 South Carolina.  Should South Carolina win, Stanford will likley get the nod.

Sugar Bowl

LSU Tigers vs Oklahoma Sooners – Assuming Alabama is headed to the BCS title game, the SEC representative for the Sugar Bowl would likely be LSU.  The at-large team would then likely be the Oklahoma Sooners of the Big 12.

Orange Bowl

Florida State Seminoles vs Rutgers Scarlet Knights – FSU appears to have the ACC locked up and will represent them in the Orange Bowl in 2012.  With their loss to Syracuse last week, the 9-1 Louisville Cardinals will be edged out by Rutgers and earn an at-large berth to the Orange Bowl- all they need to do is beat an inferior UConn team.

Rose Bowl

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Oregon Ducks – With Oregon no longer in the BCS title game picture, they would likely represent the PAC 12 in the Rose Bowl.  Though, if Stanford beats UCLA, they could go to the Rose Bowl while Oregon heads to the Fiesta Bowl (over Clemson).  With Ohio State inelidgible, the Big 10 will likely be represented by Nebraska.

Top 10 College Football Games of Week 13

  1. #11 Clemson Tigers vs #12 South Carolina Gamecocks
  2. #17 UCLA Bruins vs #8 Stanford Cardinals
  3. USC Trojans vs #1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  4. #13 Oklahoma Sooners vs #21 Oklahoma State Cowboys
  5. #10 Florida State Seminoles vs #4 Florida Gators
  6. Pitt Panthers vs #18 Rutgers Scarlet Knights
  7. Ohio State Buckeyes vs #19 Michigan Wolverines
  8. #15 Oregon State vs #5 Oregon Ducks
  9. #23 Kent State Golden Flashes vs Ohio Bobcats
  10. #16 Texas Longhorns vs TCU Horned Frogs

Updated 2012 BCS Bowl Projections

notre-dame-football

Will Notre Dame earn a trip to the 2012 BCS National Championship game?

College football tickets, and in particular the NCAA bowl game tickets, are some of the biggest money makers in the secondary event ticket market.  As such, selling college football tickets can be particularly challenging as thousands of ticket brokers are competing for the same customers.  While direct marketing bowl games is tricky until the actual teams involved are officially announced, the smart ticket brokers get ahead of the competition by anticipating the bowl bids and starting search engine optimization campaigns early.

As such, we thought it would be prudent to take a look at the current state of the BCS standings and make some predictions on who will be going to what BCS Bowl Games in 2012 (actually 2013).  Prior to this weekend it was a given that Alabama would again be playing in the BCS Championship game.  However, following Alabama’s dramatic loss to Texas A&M on Saturday, the BCS picture has changed substantially.  As it stands today, here is who we think will play in each of the 5 BCS Bowl game this season.

BCS National Championship Game:  Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Kansas State Wildcats

Although we have 3 undefeated teams that can all make the case that they should be in the National Championship game, the most likely match up is Notre Dame vs Kansas State.   Oregon has 3 games remaining and all will likely be against top 25 teams.  The Ducks close out the season against #13 Stanford and #16 Oregon State before playing in the PAC 12 Championship likely against #17 UCLA.  If the Ducks can win out they would be a shoe-in to be in the title game.  However, we see the Ducks slipping up against one of them.  Both Kansas State and Notre Dame has just 1 game remaining with a ranked opponent and will not have to play in a conference championship game.  The K-State Wildcats will play #15 Texas while Notre Dame will play #18 USC.

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Georgia Bulldogs

With Kansas State likley headed to the BCS Championship game, the Oklahoma Sooners would represent the Big 12 in the Fiesta Bowl.  Assuming Alabama wins out in the SEC, that would mean the Georgia Bulldogs would probably get an at-large berth in the Fiesta Bowl as the #2 SEC team.

Rose Bowl: Oregon Ducks vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Rose Bowl features the top teams from the PAC 12 and Big 10.  If we assume Oregon is going to falter down the stretch, then they would be Rose Bowl bound.  With the Big 10 down this year (Ohio State is not bowl eligible), that leaves the Nebraska Cornhuskers as the likely champion.  Both teams are popular and travel well which means strong ticket demand.

Sugar Bowl: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Clemson Tigers

The Sugar Bowl could easily be represented by Georgia, Florida, or Alabama.  However, we feel the Crimson Tide are the best team of the bunch and should win in a SEC Championship game at a neutral stadium.  Alabama would then likely face the Clemson Tigers as the #2 team in the ACC in the Sugar Bowl.

Orange Bowl: Florida State Seminoles vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights

The Orange Bowl is represented by the top ACC team and an at-large team likely the Big East Champion.  The top ACC team should be Florida State.  The Big East champion is looking like Rutgers.  If the game turns out to be this match-up do not expect there to be much in terms of ticket demand.  FSU would be big time favorites.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 11 (2012)

alabama-football

Alabama will look to stay unbeaten against the #15 Texas A&M Aggies this week. A win and they are pretty much a lock to make the 2013 BCS Championship game.

After another week of college football, just 4 unbeaten (significant) teams remain.  Alabama, Kansas State, Oregon, and Notre Dame are all still trying to make their case that they deserve a shot at the BCS National Championship game.  The #9 Louisville Cardinals are also undefeated but it is highly unlikely they could significantly move up in the BCS standings with just 1 game against a ranked opponent (Rutger on 11/29).  That means it’s all going to come down to who can run out the table and who can make the best case.  No room for error from here on out.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 11 (2012)

1.  #1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs #15 Texas A&M Aggies

Alabama will have it’s last test of the regular season against the #15 TAMU.  After this game they just have Western Carolina and Auburn before heading on to the SEC Championship game.

2.  TCU Horned Frogs vs #2 Kansas State Wildcats

TCU will get their chance to knock out the #2 team in the nation in Fort Worth.

3.  #7 LSU Tigers vs #21 Mississippi State Bulldogs

This game would likely be the game of the week had LSU not lost to Alabama last week.  With 2 losses, LSU is virtually elimated from BCS contention.  Nonetheless, this should be a great game between 2 ranked teams.

4.  #14 Stanford Cardinal vs #11 Oregon State Beavers

This is a huge game that will have big ramifications for the PAC 12.  Both teams will be looking to keep pace with the Oregon Ducks in the North Division and further solidify their bowl bid.

5. #16 Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Penn State Nittany Lions

Nebraska has a big game this weekend against PSU.  They need to win to remain atop the Big 10 Legends Division Standings and stay in line for a trip to the Rose Bowl.

6.  Michigan Wolverines vs #24 Northwestern Wildcats

These two teams are fighting for position atop the Big 10 Legends division with Nebraska.  To the winner goes a chance at a Rose Bowl bid…..

7.  Boston College Eagles vs #4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Boston College Eagles aren’t much this season but this is one of the best rivalries in college football.  BC fans would like nothing more than to ruin Notre Dame’s perfect season.

8.  #17 Texas Longhorns vs Iowa State Cyclones

The Longhorns will look to pick up their 8th win against a tough ISU team in Austin this weekend.  Texans love their college football!

9.   Viginia Tech Hokies vs #10 Florida State Seminoles

VA Tech is sitting at 4-5 and desperately needs a big win if they have any hope of making a decent bowl game this season.  FSU will be looking for another win with the hopes of cracking the top 10.

10.  Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

WVU has certainly fallen the past couple of weeks but they could become bowl bound with a win over OK State.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 10 (2012)

Another week of college football is in the books and teams are still jockeying for position in the BCS Standings.  This week will be no exception as the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide will meet in the SEC’s “Clash of the Titans” in this weeks Game of the Week (GOTW).

Their is certainly no love lost between these two bitter foes.  LSU will be looking for revenge following their loss last year in the BCS National Championhip game.  They would love nothing more than to knock Alabama out of the top spot in the standing and give themselves a shot at returning to the big game.  Alabama has had a target on their back all season.  They have lived up to expectations thus far but have yet to face a real challenge this year.  Their only wins over ranked teams this year have been over Michigan (#8 at the time) and Mississippi State (#11 at the time)- both teams have proven to be a bit overrated.  Not matter who wins, the BCS Championship picture will certainly change significantly after this weekend.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 10 (2012)

1.  #5 LSU Tigers vs #1 Alabama Crimson Tide

This is the matchup college football fans have been waiting for – the re-match of the 2011-12 BCS Championship Game.  LSU will need a win if they hope to have another shot at a BCS Title.

2.  #2 Kansas State Wildcats vs #24 Oklahoma State Cowboys

The K State Wildcats continue to dominate the Big 12 and could further build their nationals championship case with another win over a nationally ranked team.

3.  #17 USC Trojans vs #4 Oregon Ducks

The Trojans have fallen back to the pack a bit but that could all change with a win over the #4 Oregon Ducks.  Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will certainly be rocking this weekend!

4.  #15 Mississippi State Bulldogs vs #16 Texas A&M Aggies

This should be a great game between 2 evenly matched teams in the SEC.  Miss State needs a big win to maintain their relevancy in the SEC.

5.  #18 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs #23 Texas Longhorns

It’s always a high anticipated game when these two Texas schools meet in a Big 12 match up.  This year even more so as both are ranked and vying for a spot atop the standings.

6.  #11 Oregon State Beavers vs Arizona State Sun Devils (5-3)

The OSU Beavers will look to break into the top 10 with a win over a pretty solid ASU football team.

7.  #6 Georgia Bulldogs vs Ole Miss Rebels

The Bulldogs return home to take on a tough Ole Miss team.  Georgia will need a convincing win in order to sneak back into the top 5 and keep their BCS Championship hopes alive.

8.  #3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Pitt Panthers

Notre Dame will return home to face the Pitt panthers after demolishing Oklahoma last weekend.  While Notre Dame should easily handle a mediocre Pitt team, fans are eager to cheer on the #3 team in the country.

9.  Michigan State Spartans vs #20 Nebraska Cornhuskers

MSU need a big win over the #20 Huskers in order to solidify their chance to earn a berth to a substantial bowl game.  Nebraska need another win for a chance to win the Big 10.

10.  UCLA Bruins vs #22 Arizona Wildcats

The Wildcats may be the nationally ranked team but the UCLA Bruins have a better record (6-2, 3-2 PAC 12) than the Wildcats (5-3, 2-3 PAC 12).  A win for UCLA and they should be a top 25 team.
