Ladainian Tomlinson giving New York Jets #1 rushing offense

Ladainian Tomlinson has experienced a renaissance year thus far in 2010 with the New York Jets showing the explosive speed and rapid cuts that made him one of the best back in the league a few years back. The San Diego Chargers let Tomlinson go after seeing a decline in production the last two years. The decline was attributed to various injuries in Tomlinson’s eyes. The Chargers used a first round pick to draft Ryan Matthews from Fresno State and view him as a featured running back in their offensive scheme. Darren Sproles is also used as a change of pace back. Thus far this season the Chargers are averaging 124 yards per game which is ranks twelfth in the NFL. Matthews has not been an impact player thus far due to injuries and lack of carries.

Ladanian Tomlinson’s rushed for 1110 yards in 2008 in 16 games with a yards per carry average of 3.8. In 2009 he rushed for 730 yards with a yards per carry average of 3.3 in 14 games. Thru five games in 2010 he has rushed for 435 yards and has a yards per carry average of 5.7. The New York Jets rank first in the league in rushing yards per game, almost seventeen yards higher than the Atlanta Falcons. Tomlinson get the majority of carries for the Jets as Shonne Greene spells him with runs inside the tackles mostly. The Jets offense will be tough for any defense considering the versatility to either run or pass effectively. Since Mark Sanchez has not turned the ball over thus far this season the Jets have been putting up over 25 points a game since their week one loss against Baltimore. They are very talented and deep on offense and overall one of the best teams in the league.
