Top Events Week 4, 2012

jason-aldean-2012-Tour TicketsIt’s Monday and that means it’s time to take a look at what is happening this week in the world of sports, music and theater.  Our top event this week is none other than country music superstar Jason Aldean.  Jason Aldean’s 2012 My Kinda Party tour is making some major waves in the ticket resale market.  Joining Aldean on tour will be Luke Bryan and former American idol contestant Lauren Alaina.  Jason Aldean’s show at the Amway Center in Orlando came in at #4 this week and his show in Fayetteville Arkansas just missed the list at #11.

Also, making a strong showing this week are the NFC (#2) and AFC (#5) Championship games.  Ticket interest in the NFC Championship game is especially high as most fans expected the Green Bay Packers to be hosting the big game.  Since they lost, the 49ers will get the honors.

Here are the rest of this week’s top 10…

Top Events 2012 Week 2 (1/17/2012 to 1/23/2012)

1. Jason Aldean Concert 1/20/2012  Bi-Lo Center, Greenville SC

Mr. Aldean’s 2012 My Kinda Party tour is a hot item in Greenville South Carolina.

2.  NFC Championship:  49ers vs Giants 1/22/2012 Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA

With the upset of the Green Bay Packers, the 49ers get to host the NFC Championship game against the NY Giants.  Tickets officially go on sale on Wednesday but there are plenty of tickets already listed on the secondary market.

3.  Red Hot Chili Peppers 1/21/2012 Amway Center, Orlando, FL

The Red Hot Chili Peppers tour is one of the biggest of 2012 and their show in Orlando is no exception.  The Amway Center will be rocking come Saturday night!

4.  Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons Concert 1/19 Community Theatre Morristown, NJ

The baby boomers sure are excited about the Frankie Valli and the Four Season 3 night stand at the Community Theatre in Morristown.  With lots of shows scheduled for 2012 this might be a big time sleeper!

5.  AFC Championship:  Patriots vs Ravens 1/22/2012 Gillette Stadium, Boston, MA

The Patriots in the AFC Championship game is a bit old-hat for Bostonites.  This game would surely be higher on the list had Patriots fans not gotten complacent over the years with such successful teams.

6.  Jason Aldean Concert 1/22/2012 Amway Center, Orlando, FL

Yet another Jason Aldean show on the list….with the popularity of country music these days it’s no wonder he is dominating the concert listings.

7.  Virginia Tech vs North Carolina Basketball 1/19/2012 Cassell Coliseum, Blacksburg,VA

The Hokies will be hosting the #8 ranked ACC rival North Carolina Tarheels.  UNC is always a big draw in Blacksburg.

8.  Indiana vs Penn State Basketball 1/22/2012 Assembly Hall, Bloomington, IN

Although #11 Indiana lost big on national TV yesterday, Indiana basketball fans still have Hoosier fever…

9. Miami Heat vs LA Lakers 1/19/2012 American Airlines Arena, Miami, FL

Kobe vs Lebron and Wade.  Enough said…

10. AMA Supercross 1/21 Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

The AN FIM World Championship (I have no idea what that means) is apparently a big event with the west coast X games fans.  I have to admit that seeing a Supercross in Dodger Stadium would be pretty cool though.

AFC and NFC Championship Games Set

Giants vs 49ers NFC Championship

Wow, what a weekend of football we had.  Both the AFC and NFC divisional match ups lived up to all the hype with the exception of the Patriots vs Broncos game.  That game was never close as Tom Brady and the Pats destroyed Denver 45-10.  With the win the Patriots will host the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens.  The Ravens bested the Houston Texans by a final score of 20-13.  The Patriots – Ravens match up should a great one as it pits one of the best offenses in the league against one of the top defenses.  These two teams are no stranger to playing each other in the playoffs and will meet once again next week at Gillette Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts.

In the NFC both games results in upsets.  On Saturday, we saw the San Francisco 49ers offense actually outscore Drew Brees and the high powered Saints offense 36-32.  Althought the 49ers were higher seeded (#2 vs #3), most experts pick the Saints to easily beat the 49ers and 1st year head coach Jim Harbaugh.

In an even bigger upset, the NY Giants, who squeaked into the playoffs with a modest 9-7 record, defeated the  heavily favored 15-1 Green Bay Packers.  The Giants defense gave Aaron Rodgers plenty of pressure and the high powered Packers offense never got going.  The Giants looked very impressive beating the Packers by a score of 37-20.

With the Packers being the #1 seeded team, the #2 San Francisco 49ers will  get to host the NFC Championship game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

Stay tuned right here as we will announced when the games will be scheduled.

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers – NFC Championship Game

Two teams were crushed in the NFC Divisional Championship Games on the 15th and 16th of January.  In fact, those two teams probably are going to let their heads hang low for quite a while.  The Green Bay Packers annihilated the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday, while the Bears rolled over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Atlanta just never seemed like they could get their act together on Saturday.  Aaron Rodgers, QB for the Packers, was spot on all night.  The Falcons just couldn’t keep up with Rodgers quick thinking, laser eye and rocket arm.  He was unstoppable.   He threw 366 yards and had 3 touchdowns.  Not too shabby, eh?    The Atlanta Falcons turned the ball over four times, couldn’t protect their quarterback Matt Ryan, committed seven penalties, got slaughters in time of possession and gave away a season high in points. Green Bay took down Atlanta 48-21.

The Bears also are making quite the impressive showing against the Seahawks.  While the Seattle Seahawks had a very impressive victory the week previous when they trampled the Super Bowl defending New Orleans Saints, but the Bears just didn’t care.  They were going to win the game, and that’s what they‘re doing .  The snowy and cold conditions at their home turf, also worked to the Bears favor.   The Bears took home three touchdowns in the first half alone with the help of Jay Cutlers fine throwing and skill.  Not to be outshone, Greg Olson is the first Bears tight end to get 100 yards in a playoff game ever, even under the jurisdiction on Mike Ditka and his championship Bears back in ’85.  Nice work, Mr. Lovie Smith.  The Chicago Bears are in the process of taking down the Seattle Seahawks 28 to nothing mid third quarter.  It’s pretty much inevitable how this game will end.

Soo….boiled down, what does this all mean????  The Green Bay Packers will be playing the Chicago Bears on Sunday the 23rd for the NFC Championship title at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL.  This is like a Midwesterners best dream matchup ever.  The Bears and the Packers have a long-standing feud and rivalry.  They have competed against each other 180 times. The Bears currently hold winning record against the Packers with a record of 92–82–6 in head-to-head matches.

A brief history of the Packers and Bears Championship History:

Green Bay Packers

  • Starting with the1992 season, the Packers had 13 non-losing seasons in a row (their worst record being 8–8 in 1999)
  • Two Super Bowl appearances
  • One Super Bowl win (Super Bowl XXXI).
  • They returned to playoff form with winning campaigns in 2007 (13–3)
  • Competed in the NFC Championship game, 2009 (11–5), and in 2010 (10-6) under current head coach Mike McCarthy.

Chicago Bears

  • Won nine NFL Championships (eight pre-merger, and one Super Bowl).
  • The Bears have also recorded more regular season and overall victories than any other NFL franchise.
  • The franchise recorded its 700th win on November 18, 2010
