Top 10 College Football Games 2013 (Week 2)

The 2013 college football season certainly started out with a bang last week with some dominant performances and some big upsets.  The biggest upset of the week goes to the Eastern Washington Eagles who bested the #25 ranked Oregon State Beavers 49-46.  It’s one thing for any ranked team to lose to an unranked opponent in the opening week but, what makes matters worse is that Eastern Washington is a lowly FCS team (formerly NCAA Division I-AA).  Not a good week to be a Beaver fan!  The other big upset was #19 Boise State Broncos losing to the Washington Huskies.  While Boise State losing to a PAC-12 team isn’t shocking by any means, getting blown out 38-6 certainly is.

In addition to the upsets noted above, week 1 was also filled with great drama and story lines.  In perhaps the most interesting game Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel and the #7 Texas A&M Aggies took on the Rice Owls.  The game itself wouldn’t normally be all that interesting except for the fact that the Aggies star quarterback was suspended for the first half of the game due to some questionable off season behavior that included signing autographs for a shady memorabilia dealer.   Johnny football came in after halftime and did not disappoint.  He threw 3 touchdown passes on 6/8 passing and 94 yards.  If that wasn’t enough to keep the eye balls glued to the field, Manziel mimiced signing an autograph while getting up from a tackle and later was ejected for unsportmanslike conduct for pointing at the scoreboard after a TD pass in the fourth quarter.  Regardless of what you think of Manziel and the Aggies, they will be interesting to watch all season long.

In the Tickifieds Game of the Week, #17 Michigan will take on the #14 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

In the Tickifieds Game of the Week, #17 Michigan will take on the #14 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Even with all the exciting college football that took place in the opening week, it should be even more exciting in week 2.  In our GOTW (game of the week), #17 Michigan will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Both teams are coming off impressive week 1 wins.  The Wolverines hold the series edge against the Irish and will be looking for revenge from last season.   Check out our list below for the full list of the Top 10 College Football game of week 2:

Top Weekend Events 09/09-09/11

Well, it’s Thursday.  I totally blew is and forgot about Labor Day and my week’s been all messed up.  So, your Wednesday Top Weekend Events post is coming to you one day late.  Happy Thursday!

The top weekend event is the US Open Tennis – Session 24 which is the Men’s Semifinals.  The US Open has been plagued by rainy conditions.  Top players Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray were infuriated with the United States Tennis Association for starting their matches in a light mist yesterday.  Their matches were halted after a mere 15 minutes.  The players stated that they didn’t feel “protected” and that the Association was solely after money.  The four players are rescheduled to play today, weather permitting, and whoever comes over the victor will go on to play this weekend in the Quarterfinals tomorrow and semifinals on Saturday and Sunday.

Of course, not to be out shown, NCAA Football is large and in charge on the top weekend list.  The top game this weekend is Penn State vs. Alabama, which kind of seems like an odd pairing; a Big-Ten team versus an SEC Team.  Alabama is ranked #3 and Penn State at #23.  If Penn State upsets the Crimson Tide, it would be a momentous occasion.

The Notre Dame vs. Michigan game should be of no surprise to draw huge interest.  Both teams draw huge crowds on their own, but since it’s drivable distance between the two, the interest is even greater. Even more so, this game will be played under the lights of Michigan Stadium and both teams will be wearing retro uniforms.

For your concert news and events, Grace Potter will take the stage this Sunday in Nashville.  Her celebrity has really increased a lot after her discovery by Kenny Chesney on You Tube.  That’s not the bands only claim to fame, they have written many tracks for One Tree Hill, performed at 2009 Bonnaroo Music Festival and opened for Dave Matthews Band in 2008.  Keep your eye on Grace Potter and the Nocturnals!

In summation, things to keep your eye on in the coming future NCAA Football (obviously), NFL Football, MLS Soccer, and Jason Aldean.

Top 10 College Football Games (Week 2)

Game of the Week: PSU vs Alabama

FTC Week 2 GOTW: Penn State vs Alabama

With most of the week 1 college football games in the books, it’s time to to look forward to what impact games are on the schedule for week 2.  Once again, the NCAA schedule makers put together many great games as the non-conference schedule pits many top ranked team from opposing conferences together.  Perhaps none more interesting than our games of the week.  Yes, you heard it right, games of the week (GOTW).  Choosing just 1 game for the GOTW was just too difficult so we decide to feature 2 great week 2 matchups:  Alabama vs Penn State and Notre Dame vs Michigan.

The Alabama Crimson Tide – Penn State Nittany Lions game promises to be one of the best games of the year as these 2 legendary football programs face off in Tuscaloosa.  It will be interesting to see how the physical PSU team matches up against the speed of Alabama.   you can bet Joe Paterno and company will try and control the clock with their strong running game and excellent defense.  The question is will it be enough to slow down the high powered offense of Bama?  Alabama is ranked #1 for a reason so PSU will have their work cut out for them.  If nothing else, Penn State should be able to control the ball and keep the game close – perhaps even putting a major scare into Alabama.

In this week’s second game of the week, we will see another pair of legendary college football teams facing off.  However, both schools have seen better days.  Both Notre Dame and Michigan have not been relevant in college football for a few years.  However, a new season bring new hope.  Both schools are coming off impressive week 1 wins:  Notre Dame defeated UCONN 30-10 while Michigan beat Purdue 23-12.  Notre Dame, under first year head coach Brian Kelly, are going with new starting QB Dayne Crist who looked solid against Purdue through for 205 yards and 1 touchdown. Armando Allen and Cierre Wood also ran the ball well for the Irish.

For the Wolverines, they have to be excited about new starting quarterback Denard Robinson.  Against Connecticut, Robinson broke a school record by rushing for 197 yards on 29 carries.  Robinson ended up accounting for 473 yards of total offense and completed 19 of 22 passes for 186 yards and a TD.  As good as Robinson looked they will need someone else to step up within Michigan’s new spread-option offense attack.

While the above mentioned games come in at #1 and #2 in our College football Games for week 2, below are the remaining 8 games to round out our top 10.
