Top Weekend Events July 15 – 17

Yay Wednesday!

Well, the top thing that stood out to me for this weekend is that those Ontario-ans certainly want to get out of the house this weekend.  Three Ontario events made the top events for this weekend, including the Jimmy Buffett show, Vans Warped Tour and the Taylor Swift show.  The Vans Warped Tour in Mississauga has an impressive lineup including 3oh!3, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Devil Wears Prada, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, Madina Lake, NOFX, A Day to Remember and MANY others.  This is sure to be a really fun concert experience.   Taylor Swift has recovered from her bronchitis last and resumes her Speak Now tour.  Taylor will be playing in Ontario on both Friday and Saturday.  Jimmy Buffett shows up again on this list, unsurprisingly.  His current song with the Zac Brown Band, Knee Deep, is a huge hit on the country music stations at the moment.

Sir Paul McCartney kicks off his five city tour this weekend in the Big Apple.  He plays both Friday and Saturday at Yankee Stadium then moves on to Detroit (Sunday, July 24), Montreal (Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday July 27), Chicago (Sunday, July 31 and Monday, August 1) then concludes in Cincinnati on Thursday, August 4th.   The former Beatles band mate will be playing all his shows in ballparks.  Should be a great time!

Eddie Vedder returns to his roots and the home of grunge music this weekend for a Seattle show.  The lead singer of Pearl Jam has taken his solo tour on the road and is exceptionally popular.

Brad Paisley, NKOTB and O.A.R. come up again on the top weekend list as they are perpetually popular for summertime concerts.

For your sporting news, the LA Galaxy soccer team will host the Spanish soccer superstars the Real Madrid this weekend.  This is the first time since 2007 that the Galaxy will play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as part of the 2011 World Football Challenge.  Of note, Mr. Posh and all around hunk, David Beckham has played for both teams.  This is a rematch of last year’s very exciting match played at the Rose Bowl.

Top Weekend Events July 8 – 10th

I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!

Well, this is another hot weekend for concerts.  The bands/singers on this weekend’s list are all pretty mainstream, top revenue getters.  While Rascal Flatts  is the top of the list for weekend, Taylor Swift’s Atlanta concert in Atlanta certainly getting a lot of attention.  This particular concert was pinged on this list a good number of times, but it is because she had to cancel this cancel this concert and her Charlotte, North Carolina Show due to bronchitis.   Her Atlanta show will be rescheduled for October 1 and her Charlotte show will be rescheduled for November 16th.  Hopefully she feels better soon!

Of course the other country music stars, Sugarland, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban are all still doing exceptionally well.  Keith Urban’s Get Closer 2011 World Tour is in support of his 7th studio Album, Get Closer, which was released on November 16th, 2010.  Jennifer Nettles’, the lead singer of Sugarland, star power is increasingly on the rise as well.  She’s been featured in a number of main stream magazines lately including Self Magazine, Stylenews and OK!  And OPRAH magazine lately.

O.A.R. is a former college band turned rock superstars.  The group got their starts as Buckeyes at Ohio State University.  They are well known for their live performances and jam band elements making each song unique.  Of the same vein, Dave Matthews Band (DMB) is making a strong showing this weekend whom are also known for their lengthy improvisational renditions of their hits, oftentimes with an intricate video and lighting show.  This Caravan show is in salute to their 20 year anniversary as a band.  They are playing 3, multi-day, multi-artist music events.  The Chicago show is the first event, followed by the New York City show on August 26th and finishing up in Quincy, WA on September 2nd.

Milwaukee Summerfest Heats up June 29th – July9th

Summerfest11 days, 11 stages over 700 bands.  That is just a brief summary of the Milwaukee Summerfest, the “Big Gig”. Every summer, usually around July 4th, droves of fans travel to Henry Maier Festival Park on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take part in the annual “World’s Largest Music Festival” as dubbed by Guinness World Records in 1999.  Summerfest usually has crowds of about 800,000 – 1,000,000 people over the 11 days to see amazing, headlining acts.  This has been an annual tradition since 1968.  The line-up is a who’s who of popular and familiar bands.  The bands range from Pop to Country to Hip Hop to Rap and everything in between.  There is absolutely something at Summerfest for everyone. What’s even better is that shows are “free” with purchase of admission of $8 – 15.  The headlining acts at the Marcus Amphitheatre are an additional cost however. There are also comedy shows and extreme sports exhibitions.  All in all, it’s a pretty outstanding deal.  If you’ve never heard, for been to Summerfest for that matter, you really should.

This year the opening headliner is Peter Gabriel and the New Blood Orchestra.

The exceptionally remarkable line-up is as follows, but please keep in mind that this is a very small sampling of the bands performing at the event.  The headlining act of the day is bolded.
