Top Weekend Events July 29 – 31st

Hello Wednesday!

First and foremost, did you notice all the country music events on this list?  Holy moly!  8/10 events on the list are for country, every kind of country music too.  Old country, new country, pop country, folk country, it’s all there!  Zac Brown Band makes another appearance on the list with a short absence.  ZBB will be performing at the Cheyenne Frontier Days, an annual event held since 1897.  CFD claims to be one of the largest outdoor rodeo and western celebrations in the world.  The infamous Dolly Parton makes her first appearance on the top weekend events list.  She is one of the most successful country artists, earning her the title of “The Queen of Country Music.”  She has been in a top-five country hit in each of the last five decades and alongside with Reba McEntire, one of the only two country artists has had No.1 singles in each of four consecutive decades.    These are two exceptionally talented ladies!

Mr. Tim McGraw shows up twice on this list.  He’s right up there with the ladies previously mentioned for his legacy.  He has had 11 consecutive albums to debut at the top position on the Billboard album charts and twenty one singles hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.  Mr. McGraw is also a very talented actor, having been in amazing movies like The Blind Side and Country Strong.

Of course, Sir Paul McCartney takes the top spot this weekend, just as I predicted last Wednesday.  This weekend he’s playing at the Cubs home turf of Wrigley Field.

And once again, the Manchester United soccer team is another hot, hot, hot draw for this weekend

Yay, the weekend is almost here!!

Is it as hot where you are as it is in the Midwest?  Ugh, it is blistering here.  On this top weekend list, I am seeing a lot of outdoor events.  Stay cool, everyone!

Well, the hot, hot, hot event of this weekend is the soccer match between England’s Manchester United and the Chicago Fire.  This particular event came up numerous times on the list.  These EU vs. America matches are sponsored in conjunction with the MLS and CAA Sports.  Manchester United is one ot the world’s most recognized clubs, winning 18 English Premier League Titles, four Carling Cups, three European Cups and an amazing 11 FA Cups.  Manchester United was also in Chicago last year, training at the Fire’s soccer-specific home (Toyota Park) then commencing on its four-stop North American Tour in 2010.

Sir Paul McCartney is another hot event, once again, this weekend.  This time he’s taking on the Tiger’s Comerica Park in Detroit.  Expect his remaining concerts in Chicago, Montreal and Cincinnati to also score big on the top weekend list for their respective weekends.

In the Pop music genre, Katy Perry and her Teenage Dreams tour is hot in Boise, ID.  There are usually too many large concerts that roll through Idaho, so I’m sure this is a big deal in their community.  Rihanna and her Loud tour finally made it to the list.  Her recent songs “S&M” and “California King Bed” are rapidly achieved top positions on the Billboard Hot 100 list.  She’s recently come under much scrutiny for her comments and recent relinking with former flame, Chris Brown, which ended disastrously.

The ladies of country and folk music have overthrown the menfolk this week.  Jennifer Nettles, Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum and Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls prove that they’re just as popular in this genre as their male counterparts who have been making the top weekend list all summer long.

Even a couple rock bands are making the list.  Founded in 2009, Further is a band composed of former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh.  The band also includes former members of other bands including Dark Star Orchestra, RatDog, Benevoto/Russo Duo and until recently Primus.  A Perfect Circle is another Rock supergroup started in 1999.  The current line-up includes former members from Puscifer, Ashes Divide, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Devo and the Vandals.  A Perfect Circle will also be playing at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Top Weekend Events July 15 – 17

Yay Wednesday!

Well, the top thing that stood out to me for this weekend is that those Ontario-ans certainly want to get out of the house this weekend.  Three Ontario events made the top events for this weekend, including the Jimmy Buffett show, Vans Warped Tour and the Taylor Swift show.  The Vans Warped Tour in Mississauga has an impressive lineup including 3oh!3, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Devil Wears Prada, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, Madina Lake, NOFX, A Day to Remember and MANY others.  This is sure to be a really fun concert experience.   Taylor Swift has recovered from her bronchitis last and resumes her Speak Now tour.  Taylor will be playing in Ontario on both Friday and Saturday.  Jimmy Buffett shows up again on this list, unsurprisingly.  His current song with the Zac Brown Band, Knee Deep, is a huge hit on the country music stations at the moment.

Sir Paul McCartney kicks off his five city tour this weekend in the Big Apple.  He plays both Friday and Saturday at Yankee Stadium then moves on to Detroit (Sunday, July 24), Montreal (Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday July 27), Chicago (Sunday, July 31 and Monday, August 1) then concludes in Cincinnati on Thursday, August 4th.   The former Beatles band mate will be playing all his shows in ballparks.  Should be a great time!

Eddie Vedder returns to his roots and the home of grunge music this weekend for a Seattle show.  The lead singer of Pearl Jam has taken his solo tour on the road and is exceptionally popular.

Brad Paisley, NKOTB and O.A.R. come up again on the top weekend list as they are perpetually popular for summertime concerts.

For your sporting news, the LA Galaxy soccer team will host the Spanish soccer superstars the Real Madrid this weekend.  This is the first time since 2007 that the Galaxy will play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as part of the 2011 World Football Challenge.  Of note, Mr. Posh and all around hunk, David Beckham has played for both teams.  This is a rematch of last year’s very exciting match played at the Rose Bowl.

Paul McCartney is Coming to America!

Paul McCartney TicketsPaul McCartney is coming to America! The former Beatles band member has confirmed three event dates in July, all happening at baseball parks.

On Friday, June 17th at 10 AM, tickets will go on sale for his Sunday, July 24th show in Detroit, MI at the Tiger’s stadium, Comerica Park. Tickets will also go on sale the same day for the Cincinnati show at the Red’s Great American Ballpark on August 4th.

Last Friday, tickets went on sale for his New York shows taking place at Yankee Stadium on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th.

It has been rumored, but yet to be confirmed that Paul will have a show in Minneapolis, MN on September 1.

Mr. McCartney’s shows in Chicago are kind of a landmark for the city. This will be the first time since 1965 that he performed in a Chicago Stadium, when the Beatles played on a rickety stage set up in front of the center field scoreboard at the White Sox’s Comiskey Park, now Cellular Field. Sir Paul McCartney last played in Chicago in 2005 at the Bulls and Blackhawk’s United Center.

Wrigley Field has recently become a hot spot for fantastic outdoor concerts. In 2005, Jimmy Buffet started the trend. Two years later, The Police performed at the historic ball park. In 2009 Both Elton John/Billy Joel and Rascal Flatts played concerts. Late last summer in 2010, Dave Matthews Band took to the field.

According to the Guinness World Records, Paul McCartney is the most commercially successful songwriter in the history of popular music. The records book also named Sir Paul the “most successful musician and composer in popular music history.” He was a member of The Beatles from 1960-70 and Wings from 1971-81. His talent, business savvy, philanthropy work, and even his most expensive divorce in history are legendary and this man will be known and respected for many more generations to come.
