Top 10 College Football Games Week 4, 2013)

stanford1It’s hump day and that means it’s time to start looking forward to the weekend.  For many, that means making plans to take in as much college football action as possible!  Whether you plan on going to a game or simply watching from the comfort of your own home, it always good to know which games demand your viewing priority and which you can just read about at a later time.  With that in mind, we have put together a handy guide for the top 10 college football game of week 4, 2013.

1). #5 Stanford vs #23 Arizona State Sun Devils (9/21 FOX 6:00 PM CT)

This week’s game of the week is the only match-up that features two ranked teams – Stanford and Arizona State.  These two PAC 12 teams will be looking to get a much needed statement win under their belts.  Although Arizona State already has an impressive win against the Wisconsin Badgers under their belts, it wasn’t without controversy.  Stanford as also looked pedestrian thus far with narrow wins against San Jose State and Army.  If Stanford has National Championship aspirations this year they will need a strong showing against ASU.

#22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Michigan State Spartans (9/21 NBC 2:30 PM CT)

After a tough loss against the other Michigan school from the Big 10 (Michigan Wolverines), Notre Dame will be looking to right the ship against the Spartans.  The #22 Fighting Irish are 7 point favorites, however, the 3-0 MSU Spartans have looked pretty impressive against Western Michigan, South Florida and Youngstown State.  Although this is far from a marquee match-up, Notre Dame has a large fan base that supports their team as evidenced by price of Notre Dame football tickets.

#6 LSU Tigers vs Auburn Tigers (9/21 ESPN 6:45 PM CT)

Although the LSU Tigers are favored by 17 points, you never know what is going to happen when these two 3-0 SEC rivals meet in Baton Rouge.  LSU pulled off a 10 point victory on opening day against the TCU Horned Frog but since have only played cupcake opponents in UAB and Kent State.  Auburn will be looking to make more of a statement after beating Washington State, Arkansas State and Mississippi State.

4).  NC State Wolfpack vs #3 Clemson Tigers (9/19 ESPN 6:30 Pm CT)

NC State will be looking to upset the #3 Clemson Tigers this Saturday in Raleigh.  The 2-0 Wolfpack will be looking to establish their young offense and put their name on the map against a tough Clemson team who beat SEC powerhouse Georgia earlier in the year.  Thus far, Clemson has looked dominant on offense but their defense remains vulnerable.  With a 1 week layoff, Clemson is primed for an upset.

5).  BYU Cougars vs Utah Utes (9/21 ESPN2 9:15 PM CT)

With plenty of college football rivalries going by the wayside these days (see Michigan/Notre Dame, Kansas/Missouri), it’s nice to see traditions continue with the game dubbed “The Holy War”.  This year will mark the 89th meeting between these two schools who will be competing for the “Beehive Boot”.  While college football in Utah is hardly like the South, this game is sure to draw heavy interest.

6).  Virginia Tech Hokies vs Marshall Thundering Herd (9/21 ESPNU 11:30 AM CT)

This game is far from a long standing rivalry but this game will be a little more special due to the fact that Lane Stadium will be under a “white out” for military appreciation day.  To celebrate the US military, VA Tech will be wearing camouflage helmets as reported here.  This will be a must watch game for college football fans in the state of Virginia.

7).  #19 Florida Gators vs Tennessee Volunteers (9/21 CBS 2:30 PM CT)

Despite the fact that the Tennessee Vols have not been relevant in quite some time, there is no love lost between these two SEC rivals.  The #19 ranked Florida Gators (-17) are heavy favorites despite the fact that they didn’t look all that good against an over-matched Toldeo team and lost to in-state rival Miami.  Regardless of the outcome, the Swamp will be rocking this weekend!

8).  #25 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Texas State Bobcats (9/21 FSN Regional 6:00 PM CT)

Although the Texas Tech – Texas State football game is overshadowed by many other in-state rivalries, this game is attracting quite a bit of attention.  For the Red Raiders, this is the final tune up before their bye week and Big 12 Conference play really kicks off with a game against the Kansas Jayhawks on October 5th.  Texas Tech will be looking to build upon impressive wins against SMU and TCU.

9).  #10 Texas A&M vs SMU Mustangs (9/21 ESPNU 6:30 PM CT)

Although the #10 Texas A&M Aggies are 28.5 point favorites against Southern Methodist, Johnny Manziel always attracts an audience.  Aggies fans will be eager to see how Johnny football responds following a tough loss to the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  Regardless of how you feel about the A&M program or Mr. Manziel himself, you can’t help but watch.

10).  #24 Wisconsin Badgers vs Purdue Boilermakers (9/21 ABC Regional 2:30 PM CT)

The #24 Wisconsin Badgers will be looking to rebound from a heart-breaking loss last week at the hands of Arizona State against Big 10 foe Purdue.  The Badgers will open up the conference schedule against the Boilermakers who, despite being just 1-2, put up a good fight against Notre Dame last week.  New Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell has his team steadily improving so this could be a trap game for Wisconsin.  Regardless, the Big 10 opener at Camp Randall Stadium always brings out the fans.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 11 (2012)

alabama-football

Alabama will look to stay unbeaten against the #15 Texas A&M Aggies this week. A win and they are pretty much a lock to make the 2013 BCS Championship game.

After another week of college football, just 4 unbeaten (significant) teams remain.  Alabama, Kansas State, Oregon, and Notre Dame are all still trying to make their case that they deserve a shot at the BCS National Championship game.  The #9 Louisville Cardinals are also undefeated but it is highly unlikely they could significantly move up in the BCS standings with just 1 game against a ranked opponent (Rutger on 11/29).  That means it’s all going to come down to who can run out the table and who can make the best case.  No room for error from here on out.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 11 (2012)

1.  #1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs #15 Texas A&M Aggies

Alabama will have it’s last test of the regular season against the #15 TAMU.  After this game they just have Western Carolina and Auburn before heading on to the SEC Championship game.

2.  TCU Horned Frogs vs #2 Kansas State Wildcats

TCU will get their chance to knock out the #2 team in the nation in Fort Worth.

3.  #7 LSU Tigers vs #21 Mississippi State Bulldogs

This game would likely be the game of the week had LSU not lost to Alabama last week.  With 2 losses, LSU is virtually elimated from BCS contention.  Nonetheless, this should be a great game between 2 ranked teams.

4.  #14 Stanford Cardinal vs #11 Oregon State Beavers

This is a huge game that will have big ramifications for the PAC 12.  Both teams will be looking to keep pace with the Oregon Ducks in the North Division and further solidify their bowl bid.

5. #16 Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Penn State Nittany Lions

Nebraska has a big game this weekend against PSU.  They need to win to remain atop the Big 10 Legends Division Standings and stay in line for a trip to the Rose Bowl.

6.  Michigan Wolverines vs #24 Northwestern Wildcats

These two teams are fighting for position atop the Big 10 Legends division with Nebraska.  To the winner goes a chance at a Rose Bowl bid…..

7.  Boston College Eagles vs #4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Boston College Eagles aren’t much this season but this is one of the best rivalries in college football.  BC fans would like nothing more than to ruin Notre Dame’s perfect season.

8.  #17 Texas Longhorns vs Iowa State Cyclones

The Longhorns will look to pick up their 8th win against a tough ISU team in Austin this weekend.  Texans love their college football!

9.   Viginia Tech Hokies vs #10 Florida State Seminoles

VA Tech is sitting at 4-5 and desperately needs a big win if they have any hope of making a decent bowl game this season.  FSU will be looking for another win with the hopes of cracking the top 10.

10.  Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

WVU has certainly fallen the past couple of weeks but they could become bowl bound with a win over OK State.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 3 (2012)

Michigan State Spartans

The Michigan State Spartans will play host to the #20 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish as our #GOTW.

SUZ4RX3RN2MN The college football season is in full swing as many teams are starting to begin conference play.  The first 3 weeks of the season are traditionally reserved for non-conference games meant to be “tune-ups” for the games that really count and affect conferences standings.  That is not to say powerhouse football programs fill their schedules with cupcake opponents.  Certainly some do but even the cupcakes are capable of pulling off some big time upsets.  Last weekend exemplified this point as the Wisconsin Badgers lost to Oregon State and the Arkansas Razorbacks lost to Louisiana-Monroe!

Conference play is also the time when fans really start to get interested and ticket prices go  up.  This week is chock full of match-ups between both conference and non-conference rivals.  So without any more delay, here are your top 10 games of the week!

Top 10 College Football Games of Week 3

1. #10 Michigan State Spartans vs #20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

A big battle for supremacy in the midwest!  Both teams have looked impressive thus far.

2. #21 Stanford Cardinal vs #2 USC Trojans

PAC 12 play begins with this stellar matchup between two nationally ranked programs.

3.  #23 Tennessee Vols vs #18 Florida Gators

Tennessee and Florida are back in the national spotlight after several disappointing years.  So far there are 6 SEC teams in the AP Top 25…the loser of this game will likely drop out.

4.  Arkansas Razorbacks vs #1 Alabama Crimson Tide

Arkansas will be looking to right the ship after a big upset lose to LA-Monroe.  It’s not going to be easy against the #1 team in the country.

5.  #12 Ohio State Buckeyes vs Cal Golden Bears

The 12th ranked Buckeyes get a non-conference game against a quality PAC 12 team.

6.   Ole Miss Rebels vs #14 Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns appear back in the bowl picture but will have to face a quality SEC team this week.  An upset is certainly possible especially since the game is in the unfriendly waters of Mississippi.

7.  #5 Florida State Seminoles vs Wake Forest

FSU has a national title in their sights.  However, Florida State has yet to be tested and the 2-0 Demon Deacons could put up more of a fight than expected.

8.  Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Virginia Cavaliers

There is no love lost between these two ACC rivals.  Neither team is ranked but it should be an exciting game none-the-less.

9.  Northwestern Wildcats vs Boston College

Northwestern is looking for another bowl bid and a non-conference win over an ACC team will certainly solidify their credentials.

10.  Missouri Tigers vs Arizona State Sun Devils

Should be a fun game between the new members of the SEC Missouri Tigers and the ASU Sun Devils.  ASU is 2-0 and Missouri’s only loss came at the hands of the #7 Georgia Bulldogs.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 1 (2012)

Alabama FootballThe 2012 college football season is just days away and there is no shortage of marque match-ups slated for week 1.  The 2012 season will kick off with a nationally televised Thursday night game between the Vanderbilt Commodores and the #9 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.

While that game is sure to excited SEC fans, the game of the week is the battle between the #2 Alabama  and #8 Michigan – aptly dubbed the Cowboy Classic.  Wolverine fans in Ann Arbor are expecting big things this year.  A big win over a tough Alabama team and Michigan would immediately become a National Championship contender.  The Crimson Tide will need a convincing win to show why they deserve the #1 ranking over USC.

Although all eyes will be on the Cowboy Classic in Arlington Texas, there are a slew of big game on the schedule this week.  Below is our list of the Top 10 games this week.

2012 Pre-season College Football Rankings

2012 College Football RankingsJune is typically one of the slowest months of the year for ticket sales.  Sure the summer concert season is just starting to heat up but demand is waning for sports tickets.  This is largely due to the fact that the NBA and NHL playoffs are winding down and MLB baseball is only a hot ticket later in the season when the pennant chase really heats up.  The real ticket frenzy starts in the fall as both NCAA and NFL football tickets begin to go on sale.

With the college football season just a little over two months away, it’s never to early to start marketing football tickets.  In today’s blog post we have prepared a list of the some of the top teams in the nation heading into the 2012-13 college football season.  These are the teams that are expected to compete for a national championship and thus should garner their fair share of attention come time to sell tickets.

2012 Pre-season Top 10 College Football Team

1.  LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers finished off an impressive 2011 campaign losing in the BCS Championship game to the SEC rival Alabama Crimson Tide.  Although the Tigers lost of ton of talent to the NFL draft, another bumper crop of recruits should fill in all the holes.  The addition of a JUCO transfer QB, the Tigers should have a more balanced offensive attack that was lacking in the Championship game.  A rather easy non-conference schedule should set up another matchup with Bama in the SEC title game.

2.  Alabama Crimson Tide

Like LSU, last year’s national champions got pillaged in the NFL draft.  Head Coach Nick Saban will have to completely rebuild the defense so some bumps are expected down the road.  However, they have plenty of talent and depth waiting to fill the void.  Should be neck and neck with LSU.

3.  USC Trojans

The USC Trojans finished last year with an impressive 10-2 record and should be even better this year with 19 starters returning.  All eyes will be on QB Matt Barkley as an undefeated season is not out of the question with the only tough games being against Stanford and Oregon.

4.  Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks have a lot of questions marks but they are depth and talented.  The big questions will be can tailbacks Kenjon Barner and De’Anthony Thomas effectively replace LaMichael James.  Will Bryan Bennett and Marcus Mariota or emerge as a legitmate QB?  If so the Ducks could be right in the mix for a shot at a national title.

5.  Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia is certainly an upcoming team with plenty of questions but they have a stellar defense and a cake of a schedule.  Even though they play in the tough SEC they will not have to face Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, or Texas A&M.

6.  Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners are clearly the class of the Big 12.  The addition of TCU and West Virginia should help compensate for the loss of Texas A&M and a down Texas Longhorns program.

7.  West Virginia Mountaineers

WVU made a bold move by heading to the Big 12 and it could benefit them greatly to be in a league where offenses tend to prevail.  The Mountaineers offense should thrive as they are returning star QB Geno Smith and wideouts Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin.

8. Florida State Seminoles

Many were high on FSU coming into last season but injuries contributed to another disappointing season.  If Florida State can stay healthy and the defense improves, they should be right in the mix for a BCS Bowl game.

9.  Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines are one of the most exciting teams to watch in all of college football.  QB Denard Robinson will be back with 13 starters and are the favorites to emerge from the Big

10. South Carolina Gamecocks

Head coach Steve Spurrier has really turned around the South Carolina football program quickly.  After winning a SEC East title in 2010 and producing 11 wins last year, what is next?  A SEC title!  It may be a little too early for them to take out LSU and Alabama but don’t put anything past the Gamecocks.

Other teams to watch for:  Michigan State, Stanford, Arkansas, TCU, and Wisconsin
