Top 10 College Football Games Week 4, 2013)

stanford1It’s hump day and that means it’s time to start looking forward to the weekend.  For many, that means making plans to take in as much college football action as possible!  Whether you plan on going to a game or simply watching from the comfort of your own home, it always good to know which games demand your viewing priority and which you can just read about at a later time.  With that in mind, we have put together a handy guide for the top 10 college football game of week 4, 2013.

1). #5 Stanford vs #23 Arizona State Sun Devils (9/21 FOX 6:00 PM CT)

This week’s game of the week is the only match-up that features two ranked teams – Stanford and Arizona State.  These two PAC 12 teams will be looking to get a much needed statement win under their belts.  Although Arizona State already has an impressive win against the Wisconsin Badgers under their belts, it wasn’t without controversy.  Stanford as also looked pedestrian thus far with narrow wins against San Jose State and Army.  If Stanford has National Championship aspirations this year they will need a strong showing against ASU.

#22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Michigan State Spartans (9/21 NBC 2:30 PM CT)

After a tough loss against the other Michigan school from the Big 10 (Michigan Wolverines), Notre Dame will be looking to right the ship against the Spartans.  The #22 Fighting Irish are 7 point favorites, however, the 3-0 MSU Spartans have looked pretty impressive against Western Michigan, South Florida and Youngstown State.  Although this is far from a marquee match-up, Notre Dame has a large fan base that supports their team as evidenced by price of Notre Dame football tickets.

#6 LSU Tigers vs Auburn Tigers (9/21 ESPN 6:45 PM CT)

Although the LSU Tigers are favored by 17 points, you never know what is going to happen when these two 3-0 SEC rivals meet in Baton Rouge.  LSU pulled off a 10 point victory on opening day against the TCU Horned Frog but since have only played cupcake opponents in UAB and Kent State.  Auburn will be looking to make more of a statement after beating Washington State, Arkansas State and Mississippi State.

4).  NC State Wolfpack vs #3 Clemson Tigers (9/19 ESPN 6:30 Pm CT)

NC State will be looking to upset the #3 Clemson Tigers this Saturday in Raleigh.  The 2-0 Wolfpack will be looking to establish their young offense and put their name on the map against a tough Clemson team who beat SEC powerhouse Georgia earlier in the year.  Thus far, Clemson has looked dominant on offense but their defense remains vulnerable.  With a 1 week layoff, Clemson is primed for an upset.

5).  BYU Cougars vs Utah Utes (9/21 ESPN2 9:15 PM CT)

With plenty of college football rivalries going by the wayside these days (see Michigan/Notre Dame, Kansas/Missouri), it’s nice to see traditions continue with the game dubbed “The Holy War”.  This year will mark the 89th meeting between these two schools who will be competing for the “Beehive Boot”.  While college football in Utah is hardly like the South, this game is sure to draw heavy interest.

6).  Virginia Tech Hokies vs Marshall Thundering Herd (9/21 ESPNU 11:30 AM CT)

This game is far from a long standing rivalry but this game will be a little more special due to the fact that Lane Stadium will be under a “white out” for military appreciation day.  To celebrate the US military, VA Tech will be wearing camouflage helmets as reported here.  This will be a must watch game for college football fans in the state of Virginia.

7).  #19 Florida Gators vs Tennessee Volunteers (9/21 CBS 2:30 PM CT)

Despite the fact that the Tennessee Vols have not been relevant in quite some time, there is no love lost between these two SEC rivals.  The #19 ranked Florida Gators (-17) are heavy favorites despite the fact that they didn’t look all that good against an over-matched Toldeo team and lost to in-state rival Miami.  Regardless of the outcome, the Swamp will be rocking this weekend!

8).  #25 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Texas State Bobcats (9/21 FSN Regional 6:00 PM CT)

Although the Texas Tech – Texas State football game is overshadowed by many other in-state rivalries, this game is attracting quite a bit of attention.  For the Red Raiders, this is the final tune up before their bye week and Big 12 Conference play really kicks off with a game against the Kansas Jayhawks on October 5th.  Texas Tech will be looking to build upon impressive wins against SMU and TCU.

9).  #10 Texas A&M vs SMU Mustangs (9/21 ESPNU 6:30 PM CT)

Although the #10 Texas A&M Aggies are 28.5 point favorites against Southern Methodist, Johnny Manziel always attracts an audience.  Aggies fans will be eager to see how Johnny football responds following a tough loss to the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  Regardless of how you feel about the A&M program or Mr. Manziel himself, you can’t help but watch.

10).  #24 Wisconsin Badgers vs Purdue Boilermakers (9/21 ABC Regional 2:30 PM CT)

The #24 Wisconsin Badgers will be looking to rebound from a heart-breaking loss last week at the hands of Arizona State against Big 10 foe Purdue.  The Badgers will open up the conference schedule against the Boilermakers who, despite being just 1-2, put up a good fight against Notre Dame last week.  New Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell has his team steadily improving so this could be a trap game for Wisconsin.  Regardless, the Big 10 opener at Camp Randall Stadium always brings out the fans.

Top 10 Hottest College Football Tickets (Week 12)

Houston Cougars Football

College football fans and ticket brokers alike have been spoiled the past few weeks with some marquee matchups with major BCS Bowl game implications. These big games received plenty of hype and for anyone marketing NCAA football tickets, it was easy to decide which games to focus your marketing efforts on.  However, some weeks it’s not quite as easy to pick the profitable games.  Lucky for you, we have put together a list of the hottest football games this upcoming weekend (Week 12).  Using our propriatary formula that utilizes page view and search query data from Tickifieds.com and average ticket price from major ticket brokers, we have put together a list of the hottest college football games.

It’s not much of a surprise to see top ranked teams such as LSU, Stanford, Oklahoma State, and Oregon on the list of hottest games this weekend.  However, anyone that has spent time marketing event tickets knows that sometimes the most popular events aren’t necessarily the most profitable.  This late in the season many lesser teams have key matchups that will either solidify their position in the conference championship game or qualify them for a bowl game.  This week is no exception as the #1 game features the Georgia Bulldogs as they look to secure the SEC South championship.  Coming in at #1 is the big Ohio State vs Penn State game- despite all the recent turmoil, Penn State will be looking to lock up the Leaders Division of the Big 10.  Another interesting, yet under-the-radar, game is the Conference USA matchup between Houston and SMU.  The 11th ranked Houston Cougars are the only other team in the nation (besides LSU) that has yet to lose a game.

College Football Week 1 Recap

College football season is back and week 1 saw some exciting games with nail biters and big time upsets of top ranked NCAA football teams.  In probably the most exciting game of the week the reigning BCS Champion Auburn Tigers were nearly upset by unranked Utah State.  QB Barrett Trotter marched the Tigers down the field and RB Michael Dyer finished them off with a 1-yard touchdown in the games final seconds (following a perfect onside kick) to squeak out a victory by a margin of 42-38.  Although Auburn pulled off the win, the Tigers have a long way to go if they are to contend for another national championship this season.

The game between #5 Boise State Broncos and #19 Georgia Bulldogs was one of the most anticipated games this past weekend.  However, Heisman contender Kellen Moore sliced through the Bulldogs 3-4 defense with ease racking up 261 yards on 28-34 passing and 3 touchdowns.  The Broncose win over a ranked SEC team will bolster their chances to yet again play in a BCS Bowl game if they can continue to play at a high level.  Georgia coach Mark Richt’s job could be on the line as the talented Bulldogs were expected to comepete for a SEC title this season- an opening week loss certainly sets them back in this endeavor.

In perhaps the biggest upset of the opening week of college football was the #16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish loss to unranked South Florida 23-20.  Notre Dame suffered through a wild and wacky first half that featured 2 fumbles, a penalty that reversed a Cierre Wood touchdown, and an interception in the end zone.  It was actually pretty remarkable the Irish were only down 16 points at halftime.    Notre Dame was able to make a game of it after halftime as they pulled quarterback Dayne Crist  in favor of Tommy Rees.  Crist ended the day with just 85 yards passing with 0 touchdowns and 1 pick while Rees racked up 296 yards, 2 touchdowns but also threw to interceptions.  It looks like South Bend has itself a good ole fashioned quarterback controversy!

Last but not least, week 1 saw the #4 ranked LSU Tigers  mildly upset the #3 ranked Oregon Ducks in the Cowboy Classic at Cowboy’s Stadium in Dallas, Texas.  While a #4 beating a #3 is hardly shocking, the way in which it happened was.  Oregon was extremely sloppy with several dropped passes, multiple costly turnovers, and several crushing penalties.  Both teams were without key players and it showed.  Expect both teams to continue to improve as the season progresses and become BCS Bowl game contenders.
