Top 10 College Football Games Week 4, 2013)

stanford1It’s hump day and that means it’s time to start looking forward to the weekend.  For many, that means making plans to take in as much college football action as possible!  Whether you plan on going to a game or simply watching from the comfort of your own home, it always good to know which games demand your viewing priority and which you can just read about at a later time.  With that in mind, we have put together a handy guide for the top 10 college football game of week 4, 2013.

1). #5 Stanford vs #23 Arizona State Sun Devils (9/21 FOX 6:00 PM CT)

This week’s game of the week is the only match-up that features two ranked teams – Stanford and Arizona State.  These two PAC 12 teams will be looking to get a much needed statement win under their belts.  Although Arizona State already has an impressive win against the Wisconsin Badgers under their belts, it wasn’t without controversy.  Stanford as also looked pedestrian thus far with narrow wins against San Jose State and Army.  If Stanford has National Championship aspirations this year they will need a strong showing against ASU.

#22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Michigan State Spartans (9/21 NBC 2:30 PM CT)

After a tough loss against the other Michigan school from the Big 10 (Michigan Wolverines), Notre Dame will be looking to right the ship against the Spartans.  The #22 Fighting Irish are 7 point favorites, however, the 3-0 MSU Spartans have looked pretty impressive against Western Michigan, South Florida and Youngstown State.  Although this is far from a marquee match-up, Notre Dame has a large fan base that supports their team as evidenced by price of Notre Dame football tickets.

#6 LSU Tigers vs Auburn Tigers (9/21 ESPN 6:45 PM CT)

Although the LSU Tigers are favored by 17 points, you never know what is going to happen when these two 3-0 SEC rivals meet in Baton Rouge.  LSU pulled off a 10 point victory on opening day against the TCU Horned Frog but since have only played cupcake opponents in UAB and Kent State.  Auburn will be looking to make more of a statement after beating Washington State, Arkansas State and Mississippi State.

4).  NC State Wolfpack vs #3 Clemson Tigers (9/19 ESPN 6:30 Pm CT)

NC State will be looking to upset the #3 Clemson Tigers this Saturday in Raleigh.  The 2-0 Wolfpack will be looking to establish their young offense and put their name on the map against a tough Clemson team who beat SEC powerhouse Georgia earlier in the year.  Thus far, Clemson has looked dominant on offense but their defense remains vulnerable.  With a 1 week layoff, Clemson is primed for an upset.

5).  BYU Cougars vs Utah Utes (9/21 ESPN2 9:15 PM CT)

With plenty of college football rivalries going by the wayside these days (see Michigan/Notre Dame, Kansas/Missouri), it’s nice to see traditions continue with the game dubbed “The Holy War”.  This year will mark the 89th meeting between these two schools who will be competing for the “Beehive Boot”.  While college football in Utah is hardly like the South, this game is sure to draw heavy interest.

6).  Virginia Tech Hokies vs Marshall Thundering Herd (9/21 ESPNU 11:30 AM CT)

This game is far from a long standing rivalry but this game will be a little more special due to the fact that Lane Stadium will be under a “white out” for military appreciation day.  To celebrate the US military, VA Tech will be wearing camouflage helmets as reported here.  This will be a must watch game for college football fans in the state of Virginia.

7).  #19 Florida Gators vs Tennessee Volunteers (9/21 CBS 2:30 PM CT)

Despite the fact that the Tennessee Vols have not been relevant in quite some time, there is no love lost between these two SEC rivals.  The #19 ranked Florida Gators (-17) are heavy favorites despite the fact that they didn’t look all that good against an over-matched Toldeo team and lost to in-state rival Miami.  Regardless of the outcome, the Swamp will be rocking this weekend!

8).  #25 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Texas State Bobcats (9/21 FSN Regional 6:00 PM CT)

Although the Texas Tech – Texas State football game is overshadowed by many other in-state rivalries, this game is attracting quite a bit of attention.  For the Red Raiders, this is the final tune up before their bye week and Big 12 Conference play really kicks off with a game against the Kansas Jayhawks on October 5th.  Texas Tech will be looking to build upon impressive wins against SMU and TCU.

9).  #10 Texas A&M vs SMU Mustangs (9/21 ESPNU 6:30 PM CT)

Although the #10 Texas A&M Aggies are 28.5 point favorites against Southern Methodist, Johnny Manziel always attracts an audience.  Aggies fans will be eager to see how Johnny football responds following a tough loss to the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  Regardless of how you feel about the A&M program or Mr. Manziel himself, you can’t help but watch.

10).  #24 Wisconsin Badgers vs Purdue Boilermakers (9/21 ABC Regional 2:30 PM CT)

The #24 Wisconsin Badgers will be looking to rebound from a heart-breaking loss last week at the hands of Arizona State against Big 10 foe Purdue.  The Badgers will open up the conference schedule against the Boilermakers who, despite being just 1-2, put up a good fight against Notre Dame last week.  New Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell has his team steadily improving so this could be a trap game for Wisconsin.  Regardless, the Big 10 opener at Camp Randall Stadium always brings out the fans.

Tickifieds Top 10 Weekly Searches – Hangout Festival Unseats 1D

2012 Hangout Music Festival LineupAfter a nice mother’s day weekend it’s hard not reflect back on life and think about all of those accumulated memories.  If  you are anything like me, many of my fondest memories were made at a sporting events and even concerts.  I will never forget going to my first Chicago Cubs game with my family in 1984, to seeing my first concert with friends (The Offspring and Rancid at the Vic in Chicago in 1994) , or even attending my first music festival (Lollapalooza 1995).  Even in a recession (if that is what we are calling it these days) people long to be entertained.  So while the economy continues to struggle demand for tickets to concert, sports, and theater event remains as strong as any industry.

Top Weekend Events 10/07/11 – 10/09/11

Woo hoo…it’s practically the weekend.

I think, foreseeable future, the Top Weekend Events list should be renamed as The Top College Football Games this Weekend list.  Although, it should be noted and highlighted that a concert made the list this weekend.  Taylor Swift’s Dallas show has attracted much fan interest and people are still clamoring for tickets.

Of note for college football this weekend especially is the Georgia vs. Tennessee game.  This is a big, big game in the SEC East.  If Georgia wins this game, their game with Florida on 10/29 will be a deciding one.  It could potentially decide who wins the division.  Georgia is expected to win this game, but only by a slim margin.

Last weekend, Auburn’s win over South Carolina surprised many; however, neither Auburn nor Arkansas has much of a chance at winning the SEC West title.  That title is pretty firmly in the LSU Tiger’s hands.

The Texas Oklahoma game should be exciting, even though it seems like it’s received ZERO media attention.  Texas is currently ranked 11th in the country, and no one seems to notice.  Oklahoma is expected to win this game, but if Texas were to pull through, that would be huge!

Nebraska vs. Ohio is only considered a big game since it’s a Big 10 matchup.  The OSU Buckeyes have had a pretty poor showing lately, and it shouldn’t be of any surprise if they lose to the Cornhuskers.

And even though Texas Tech may take an early lead, the Texas A&M Aggies should be expected to overthrow the Red Raiders easily.

Top Weekend Events 10/07 – 10/09/2011

1.)    Notre Dame vs. Air Force, Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN – Saturday, October 8th

2.)    Texas vs. Oklahoma, Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX – Saturday, October 8th

3.)    Nebraska vs. Ohio State, Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE – Saturday, October 8th

4.)    Northwestern vs. Michigan, Ryan Field, Evanston, IL – Saturday, October 8th

5.)    Taylor Swift, Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, TX – Saturday, October 8th

6.)    Clemson vs. Boston, Memorial Stadium, Clemson, SC – Saturday, October 8th

7.)    Arkansas vs. Auburn, Razorback Stadium, Fayetteville, AR – Saturday, October 8th

8.)    Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M,  Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX – Saturday, October 8th

9.)   LSU vs. Florida, Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA – Saturday, October 8th

10.) Tennessee vs. Georgia, Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, TN – Saturday, October 8th

Week-5 NCAA Football Games to Watch

Week 5 NCAA Football Games to Watch:

Nebraska at Wisconsin – This will be a well matched game take place at Camp Randall this Saturday.  The ninth-ranked Cornhuskers will take their first swing at the eighth-ranked Badgers.

The Cornhusker’s offense coach, Bo Pelini, focuses on two key things when on the field: 1) running the ball 2) running the ball some more. Their rushing offense is very impressive. The Huskers are led by mobile quarterback Taylor Martinez who has an impressive 63 carries for 421 yards AND seven touchdowns.

While Nebraska has the impressive running game, Wisconsin is still expected to be the victor of this game as they have the best offense in college football with Russell Wilson’s arm.

Clemson at Virginia Tech – This will be a hot game.  This will be the third week in a row that the Tigers will face a Top 25 team.  Clemson has come out victories in every one of these games which include Florida State, Auburn, Wofford and Troy.  The Hokies have not faced such tough hurdles yet.  They’ve only been paired with Appalachian State, East Carolina, Arkansas State and Marshall thus far.  Clemson is expected to come out as the victor by a narrow margin.

Northwestern at Illinois – Two very competitive Big 10 Illinois teams will face off on Champaign campus.  The Illini are expected to narrowly beat out the Wildcats.

Utah State at BYU – These teams have a strong rivalry and will make for an exciting Friday night game.  Utah has been getting progressively stronger and better as a team; expect them to give BYU a run for their money.

Iowa State at Texas – While the Cyclones have a perfect record thus far, the Longhorns should make quick work of that.

Navy at Air Force - Two military teams pitted against each other always makes for exciting game watching.  Navy is expected to easily take down Air Force.

Nevada at Boise State – The Broncos are still miffed about missing their chance at the Rose Bowl last year.  Boise State is on a quest this year, they won’t be rolling over for anyone.

Michigan State at Ohio State – OSU seems to be like a lost puppy without Terrelle Pryor.  MSU should easily sweep last year’s Champion team.

LSU at Kentucky – LSU is expected to continue to dominate all other teams for good long while.

Arkansas at Texas A&M – As the Aggies officially join the SEC Conference this week, their out to prove themselves.  This game is critical for both teams who want to bounce back after their tough loses last week.

Alabama at Florida - Both teams have very strong defensive games, but Alabama could face some big problems as they encounter Florida’s two dominant running backs, Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps.  The Crimson Tide and the Gators have previously shown their strength against formidable teams; Arkansas and Kentucky.
