College Football Top 10 Games Week 8 (2012)

Florida Gators Football

The Gators are back in the BCS National Championship picture after Florida leap-frogged the South Carolina Gamecocks following their loss to LSU last week. The two will get a chance to go head to head in this week’s game of the week (GOTW).

Another crazy week of college football is in the books and now it’s time to look forward to the week 8 games that are trending on Tickifieds.com.  It comes as no surprise that this week’s top games are dominated by Big 12 and SEC games.  However, ACC football is certainly starting to garner some attention with 3 games in our top 10 this week.

With many teams on the cusp of becoming bowl eligible, games are becoming more and more important.    This is true not just for the top 25 teams (which frequently appear in our Top 10 lists) but also for non-ranked teams having strong seasons.  Teams like Arizona State, Northwestern, Nebraska, Duke, and North Carolina will be looking to build upon their winning ways.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 8 (2012)

1.  #2 Florida Gators vs #7 South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gators look to continue their unbeaten streak with a big win over 7th ranked South Carolina.  South Carolina lost a heart breaker last week to LSU.

2.  #13 West Virginia Mountaineers vs. #4 Kansas State Wildcats

WVU will look to rebound after getting destroyed by Texas Tech.  It won’t be easy against the 4th ranked K State Wildcats!

3.  #18 Texas A&M Aggies vs #6 LSU Tigers

Texas A&M’s stock has risen with the Gators (their only loss of the season).  A win for Texas A&M and you would have to consider them one of the top 10 teams in the nation (if not the Top 5).  LSU badly needs another win over a quality opponent to get back in the national championship discussion.

4.  #23 TCU Horned Frogs vs #17 Texas Tech Red Raiders

Two 5-1 teams will battle it out for the Big 12 supremacy.  Ticket for this game are in big demand as the 2 Texas school get ready for thier first Big 12 showdown!

5.  #19 Clemson Tigers vs Virginia Tech Hokies

The 19th ranked Clemson Tigers will look to put away ACC powerhouse VA Tech on Saturday.  The Hokies have been inconsistent but still have the talent to win the ACC.

6.  Northwestern Wildcats vs Nebraska Cornhuskers

A huge game between these two Big 10 teams.  With the conference down, a win could be the difference between a bid to the Rose Bowl.

7.  Duke Blue Devils vs North Carolina Tarheels

The Duke – North Carolina rivalry is always big but who woulda thunk that this game would actually mean something?  With both teams sitting at 5-2, the winner becomes bowl eligible.

8.  Miami Hurricanes vs #14 Florida State Seminoles

Another big in-state rivalry game… FSU should easily handle the ‘Canes but winning in Miami is never an easy task.

9.  Arizona State Sun Devils vs #3 Oregon Ducks

Although ASU is not ranked, they are sitting at 5-1 and present a tough match-up for the Ducks.  Tempe will be rocking for this game!

10.  #25 Texas Longhorns vs Baylor Bears

The Longhorns got destroyed last week by Oklahoma and will look to rebound against Baylor.  Texas will need to win convincingly to avoid dropping out of the top 25.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 5 (2012)

WVU Football

The #9 West Virginia Mountaineers will face a tough test this week against the #25 Baylor Bears.

After another weekend filled with some incredible college football action, it’s time to take a look ahead and see what is on the schedule for Week 5. With over a 100+ college football games on the schedule each week, it can be a difficult task determining which games warrant both your attention as a fan, and as a marketer of event tickets.  That is why each week we bring you our list of our top 10 college football games- so you can laser focus your attention on only the games that  matter.

Although the season is still relatively young, we still have many undefeated teams jockeying for position in the top 25.  Our game of the week is no exception as two undefeated Big 12 teams will be looking to move up the ranks with a big win over a conference foe.  This game is even more important as neither team has really been tested.  The winner will likely secure their spot in the top 10, the loser will fall back to the pack.  There is no doubt that Mountaineers fans are anixously awaiting Saturday to prove to the rest of the Nation that WVU belongs in the Big 12 and is deserving of their #9 rank.

College Football Top 10 Games Week 5 (2012)

1.  #9 West Virginia Mountaineers (3-0) vs #25 Baylor Bears (3-0)

The Big 12 is shaping up to be a heck of a conference this year.  Two of the 7 undefeated Big 12 teams will go head to head this week in our Week 5 game of the week.   Fan interest is BIG in this game as both teams will be looking to prove that they are for real.

2.  #14 Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0) vs #20 Michigan State Spartans (3-1)

Ohio State has looked a little shaky thus far but it’s hard to argue with 4-0.  MSU on the other hand was expected to have a big year but lost to Notre Dame.  If Notre Dame turns of to be the real deal than Michigan State could get back into the BCS Bowl game picture if they can beat OSU.

3.  Oklahoma State Cowboys (2-1) vs #12 Texas Longhorns (3-0)

The Texas Longhorns are on the cusp of returning to national prominence.  However, there is nothing more the OK State Cowboys would like to do than to deflate UT’s chance at a BCS Bowl.

4.  #22 Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-1) vs Wisconsin Badgers (3-1)

Two of the Big 10’s best will go head to head in Lincoln this weekend.  Both teams are off to slows starts (relatively speaking) and need a win over a quality opponent.

5.  Tennessee Volunteers (3-1) vs #5 Georgia Bulldogs (4-0)

The surprising Tennessee Volunteers will have a chance to get in the national spotlight with a game against the top 5 Georgia Bulldogs.  There only loss came at the hands of #18 Florida.

6.  #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0) vs Ole Miss Rebels (3-1)

The top ranked Crimson Tide will face a tough Ole Miss squad in Tuscaloosa.  If Bama doesn’t take this game seriously, there could be a major upset…

7.  Washington Huskies (2-1) vs #8 Stanford Cardinal (3-0)

The Washington Huskies will face a tough test against one of the best teams in the PAC 12, if not the nation in Stanford.  Seattle will be rocking for this game!

8.  Miami Hurricanes (3-1) vs NC State Wolf Pack (3-1)

Two of the better teams in the ACC will go head to head this week in Miami.  A win for the home Hurricanes will ensure the lead in the ACC Coastal Division.

9.  Virginia Cavaliers (2-2) vs Louisana Tech Bulldogs (3-0)

Louisiana Tech will look to put up another win against a solid team from a solid conference. LA Tech beat up on the Big 10’s Illinois putting up an impressive 52 points.  In fact LA Tech has score over 50 in every game so far.  A win over Virginia and the Bulldogs might crack the top 25!

10.  Iowa State Cyclones (3-0) vs Texas Tech Red Raiders (3-0)

These may not be two of the more storied football programs in the Big 12 but both teams are sitting at 3-0.  Should be a great game for some hillside seats!

2012 Preseason Big 12 Football Rankings

Oklahoma Sooners Football

The Oklahoma Sooners are the preseason #1 team in the Big 12. Will they be able to hold off WVU and the Texas Longhorns?

The Big 12 Conference narrowly avoided a complete collapse following the 2011-12 football season as rumors quickly spread of schools changing affiliations.  Big 12 football as we know it would have been devasted had tradional powerhouse football programs like the Texas Longhorns or the Oklahoma Sooners had bolted for greener pastures as many had feared.  Fortunately for Big 12 fans both decided to stay.   However, that is not to say the conference has not undergone some major changes since last season.  The Texas A&M Aggies and Missouri Tigers both bolted for the SEC amid rumors of the conference folding.  While those programs leaving certainly hurt the national competitiveness of  the conference, two new school will hope to fill the void.  The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Texas-Christian University Horned Frogs will both join the Big 12 this season and both are expected to make an immediate impact.

So how will the new-look Big 12 shape up in 2012-13?  Well, below we will break down and rank each of football teams in the Big 12.

2012 Big 12 Football Rankings

 1.Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners were the preseason #1 team in the country last season.  However, injuries plagued the team and they fell short of their lofty expectations.  The Sooners should be a much stronger and deeper team this year as many underclassmen should benefit from being thrust into action ahead of schedule last season.  Oklahoma will return a strong core of players that include quarterback Landry Jones , running back Dom Whaley, defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland, corner back Javon Harris, and safetly Demontre Hurst.

2.West Virginia Mountaineers

It is a bit of a mystery as to how WVU will fare in the Big 12 especially considering the Run-and-Shoot spread offense run by coach Dana Holgorsen.  However, its hard to see the Mountaineers struggle much on offense with QB Geno Smith and wide recievers Tavon Austin and Stedmon Bailey all returning.  If their defense can improve they have an outside shot of challenging OU for the Big 12 Championship.

3.Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns have certainly had a rough couple of years.  However, the Texas defense appears to be back in full force (#1 in the Big 12 last season) and should keep them in every game.  The running game should also be strong with Malcolm Brown, Joe Bergeron, and freshman Jonathan Gray carrying the load.  The big question is at quarterback.  If David Ash can become a legitimate threat in the passing game this team could compete for a Big 12 title.

4. Oklahoma State Cowboys

OK State had an amazing run last season but they have been somewhat depleted on offense with  Brandon Weeden, Justin Blackmon, and Josh Cooper  all gone.  With a ton of questions on offense and a pedestrian defense its hard to imagine they will be able to reload on the fly.  That said, they are still talented and deep and should be competitive.

5.TCU Horned Frogs

TCU is coming off a disappointing season in a weak conference.  It’s hard to imagine things will get any easier for them in their first season in the Big 12.  However, the TCU defense should be very good and could compete with the longhorns for the top squad.  If they can keep their players out of trouble (ahheem drug dealing) they could sneak past OK State.

6.Kansas State Wildcats

K State is pretty average across the board but they do play sound fundamental football.  Throw in the fact that Collin Klein will be returning with his core running backs and wide receivers and the Wildcats could surprise some people.

7.Baylor Bears

The Baylor offense will be severely depleted after losing 9 starters (most notably Robert Griffin III).  Throw in the fact that there defense was pretty terrible and the Bears likely have little chance at having a successful season.  They do have some talent coming in so if things pan out they could finish at .500 or so.

8.Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State always seems plagued by inconsistency.  They will play great one week only to live up to low expectations the next.  ISU has a nice pair of quarterbacks with  Steele Jantz and Jared Barnett returning but they will be hard pressed to find wins if a decent wide receiver fails to emerge.

9.Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Red Raiders appear to be in rebuilding mode as they look to establish an offensive identity all while rolling out an entirely new defensive scheme.  They do have some talent but  it is unknown how the team will gel following all these changes.  If things turn out well they could be a huge sleeper but don’t bank on it.

10.Kansas Jayhawks

Charlie Weis will be taking over as head coach but he won’t have much to work with in his first season.  It will likely take a few years before Weis can field a respectable team in Lexington but expect them to show improvement as the season progresses.

No matter who wins the Big 12 in 2012-13, it should be another exciting season.  There is not much better than taking in a Big 12 college football game.  If you are looking for tickets for any of these matchups be sure to check out our Big 12 Football Classifieds!
