It’s mid August and that means many college football fans are gearing up for the 2010 NCAA football season. The first few weeks of the season are typically filled with non-conference games against typically week opponents as many prominent teams are looking to make some final adjustments before conference play starts. This year, however, many teams have opted to open up the season against some tough non-conference teams as they hope to build up their strength of schedule and thus their BCS ranking.
In this week’s Free Ticket Classifieds game of the Week, #5 Boise State will take on #10 Virginia Tech. This ESPN nationally televised game will take place on Monday September 6th at Fedex Field in Washington DC. The Hokies typically rely on a strong defensive and special teams but this year the offense may be the unit to watch. Virginia Tech will have Quarterback Tyrod Taylor, tailbacks Ryan Williams and Darren Evans, and the play-making wide receiver Jarrett Boykin all return to the team. A win against Boise State and the Hokies could easily start out the season 8-0 and have a shot at the BCS Championship game.
The 5th ranked Boise State Broncos are set to return 9 of 11 starters from their high-powered offense. At the top of the list is Heisman Trophy contender Quarterback Kellen Moore. The Broncos also have tailback Jeremy Avery, and wide recievers Austin Pettis and Titus Young. The Broncos should once again have one of the best offenses in the nation but they will surely be tested against a tough Hokies defense.
The Broncos – Hokies game is not the lone game between two highly ranked teams. Check out the below list of the top 10 Week 1 college football games.
