BCS-Championship-LSU-vs-AlabamaWell, after a bit of a Holiday break we are back to breaking down our top events this week.  Since, often times the ‘weekend’ misses out on some big events that happen during the week we will be going with a slightly new format and will move the post to Mondays starting next week.  Mondays’ posts will cover the upcoming events that will take place during the week (Tuesday – Monday).  For those of you unfamiliar with our top 10 lists, we analyze data from our partner website Tickifieds to rank events by using a combination of page views, search queries, and unique visitors.  So with this weeks edition of Top Events we will be looking at the 2nd week of January 2012 and will include all events from Tuesday January 2nd through Monday January 9th.

Top Events 2012 Week 2 (1/2/2012 to 1/9/2012)

1. BCS National Championship 1/9/2012

No surprise the highly anticipated rematch between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide with a National Championship on the line comes in at #1.  This game will feature multiple future NFL players in what is expected to be a great game between two college football power houses

2. Cotton Bowl 1/6/2012

The Cotton Bowl comes in at #2 and is the only other bowl game featuring two top 10 teams in the Arkansas Razorbacks and Kansas State Wildcats.  Ticket demand for this game has been extremely strong with only the BCS Championship outranking it this bowl season.

3. Denver Broncos vs Pittsburgh Steelers AFC Wildcard Game 1/8/2012

The Denver Broncos are in the playoffs for the first time since 2005.  The polarizing Tim Tebow has raised the interest level in Broncos football considerably since taking over the quarterbacking duties.  Not only is the Broncos season on the line but also the future for the Broncos at the QB spot.  A Broncos loss and many speculate that GM John Elway will looking in another direction.

4.  AMA Supercross in Anaheim 1/7/2012

Apparently Supercross is still popular with the Generator X’ers out there.  The event in Anaheim is the AN FIM World Championship- the Super Bowl of Supercross.

5.  Houston Texans vs Cincinnati Bengals AFC Wildcard Game 1/7/2012

The Houston Texans are in the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.  As such fans are excited and actively seeking out tickets.  The only question is who is going to play QB after rookie T.J. Yates went down with a shoulder injury in the season finale.

6.  Boston Bruins vs Vancouver Canucks 1/7/2012

Hockey is always big in Vancouver and when you bring in the defending Stanley Cup Champions back to play against the team they played in the finals you have the makings of an epic rematch.

7.  Indiana Hoosiers vs Michigan Wolverines Basketball 1/5/2012

The legendary IU basketball program is back after taking down #1 Kentucky and #2 Ohio State in recent weeks.  This week they have a hugh Big 10 matchup with the #16 ranked Michigan Wolverines.

8.  New Orleans Saints vs Detroit Lions NFC Wildcard Game  1/7/2012

The Saints have looked impressive of late and will be looking to get back to the Super Bowl following Drew Brees record breaking season.  It all starts with the NFC Wildcard game against the Detroit Lions.

9.  NY Giants vs Atlanta Falcons NFC Wildcard Game 1/8/2012

The Giants squeaked into the NFC playoffs but have a favorable matchup against an unimpressive Atlanta Falcons team.  New York football fans love their Giants and Eli Manning and company could just keep their Super Bowl hopes alive even if just for 1 more week.

10.  Georgia Tech vs Duke Basketball 1/7/2012

College basketball is always pretty big in the Atlanta area.  Since none of the Georgia schools are looking all that good it seems fans are excited to see the the #5 Duke Blue Devils invade Philips Arena
