Happy New Year! Although this time of year is typically one of the slowest in the event ticket industry, several events this week are keeping sales going relatively strong. Top on the list this week are none other than 1 Direction and Taylor Swift. This battle that surfaced last fall has continued into 2013 and is showing no signs of slowing down.
The first week of 2013 was also good for sports. The NFL playoffs got underway this past weekend and fans are eager to buy up any tickets floating around in the secondary ticket market. With college football ending tonight, fans are also interested in college basketball tickets. High on the list include conference tournaments in addition to the 2013 Final Four.
Last and certainly not least, this week we also find the ever popular Houston Rodeo make the list for the first (but likely not the last) time. With a powerhouse lineup of some of the most popular country and pop performers, this event will be HUGE. If you haven’t been on top of this event from a marketing prospective you really need to jump on this now.
Here are the rest of this week’s top 10…
Top Events Week 1, 2013
1. One Direction
One Direction has picking up right where we left them in 2012… at #1. These young blokes are taking the nation by storm and they only seem to be growing in popularity. Whatever happened to Justin Bieber?
2. Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift continues to attract a lot of attention for her upcoming 2013 Red Tour. While she hasn’t been able to surpass One Direction this far she has shown that she isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
3. Baltimore Ravens
Ray Lewis recently announced that he is retiring at the end of the season. That means it might be the last hurrah for the Baltimore Ravens. This weekend they will head into Denver to face Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
