Tickifieds Top 10 Weekly Searches – One Direction Still King

iHeart Radio Music Festival LineupDespite the fact that it’s been nearly a month since our last analysis of the most search for tickets, you really didn’t miss much.  One Direction continues it’s dominance as the most search for performer…and it’s still not really even close.  This marks the 15th consecutive week that 1D has dominated the search results as “Directioners”  are still hungry for tickets.  While 1D shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, a few challengers are starting to emerge- namely Lady Gaga and the iHeart Radio Music Festival. IHRMF will take place this weekend in Las Vegas and has an incredible lineup of musical talent scheduled to perform.  Tickets sold out in minutes and music lovers across the country are dying to get their hands on tickets.

Top 10 Tickifieds Ticket Searches (September 10 – September 18, 2012)

1.  One Direction

When will the One Direction mania subside?  Hopefully soon…there is only so much you can say about this extremely popular boy band.

2. iHeartRadio Music Festival

With a lineup that includes Rihanna, Usher, Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Green Day, Swedish House Mafia, No Doubt, Brad Paisley, Pitbull, Deadmau5, Miranda Lambert, Enrique Iglesias, Pink, Linkin Park, Jason Aldean, Calvin Harris, Shakira, and Mary J. Blige who wouldn’t want to go to the i Heart Radio Music Festival?

3. Lady Gaga

Just last week Lady Gaga announced her 2013 Born This Way Ball Tour.  Desite Gaga’s immense popularity on the web, she still isn’t providing much competition to One Direction.  Presale tickets just went on sale today…perhaps things will change when the public on sales begin.

4.  LSU Football

With USC losing, Alabama and LSU are once again the top two teams in the nation.  LSU has schedule SEC games against the Auburn Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Florida Gators before the big showdown with the Crimson Tide on November 3rd in Baton Rouge.  Expect LSU ticket demand to stay strong!

5.  Chicago White Sox Playoffs

After a big win over Detroit, the Chicago White Sox are looking like they will win the American League Central.  Sox fans are starting to “Believe”!

6.  WVU Football

The West Virginia Mountaineers are looking strong after blowing out two cupcakes in James Madison and Marshall.  We will see if WVU can maintain their #8 ranking once Big 12 conference play begins.

7.  Green Day

Billie Joe Armstrong and Green Day are back and will be hitting the road starting on September 28th to kick off their ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! Tour.

8.  USC  Football

Interest in USC football tapered off after a heartbreaking loss to Stanford pushed them out of BCS Championship contention.  It looks like the PAC 12 may turn out to be better than expected.

9.  Rihanna

Rihanna always seems to be in the news…some bad, some good.  Rihanna just recently announced her 2013 Diamonds World Tour.  Tickets are going on sale this week and searches have been strong.

10.  Zac Brown Band

The Zac Brown Band has been a consistent heavy volume search term at Tickifieds.  ZBB likely got a bit of a boost with their recently released ablum “Uncaged” and a stellar performance on the CMA Country Music Festival.

This top 10 list is compiled from internal search data from and organic traffic from search engines.  Search terms are ranked by using a combination of both sources of search data.

Chicago Baseball GM Shake Up!

Let’s talk a little baseball, eh?  Not about the October playoffs specifically, but what’s going down in Chicago.  I’m talking about the signing of Theo Epstein of the Boston Red Sox as the next GM of the Chicago Cubs.

Cubs fans are buzzing with anticipation knowing Epstein’s track record with the Red Sox.  The Red Sox used to be in the same position the Cubs are in currently, WAAAAAAAYYYYY too many decades passed without a World Series to call their own.  Epstein steps in and wham-bam, in less than a decade two world series under their belts.

On November 25, 2002, he became the youngest GM in the MLB history at the ripe old age of 28.  Two short years later, the Red Sox won their first World Series Championship.  Three years later, the team wins yet another.  Epstein might be young, but the guy certainly seems to know what he’s doing.  On October 11th, 2011, he signed a five-year contract worth $20 million.

With Epstein being given almost free reign to do what he pleases with the Cubs, there are many possibilities.  Going for him are the facts that he doesn’t have to compete with the pocketbooks of the likes of the Yankees nor with an overly involved media like in Boston.  Starting with this offseason fans can expect the Cubs to be active in trades and free agency, especially for a power hitting first baseman. Also, there are a number of starting pitchers that can be brought in like C.J. Wilson that can help bring this team to be a real competitor in his first season.  Epstein has a real knack for finding talent in the draft and then have them come up in the ranks and bring the team big wins.

As if the Cubs weren’t excited enough, new news is starting to emerge.  According to the Chicago Sun Times, the Cubs want to renew ties with Ryne Sandberg.

According to the Sun-Times, “sources close to the Cubs, along with those close to Sandberg, have said in recent weeks that they expect reconciliation this off-season.” The Cubs and Sandberg have not discussed the situation of late but all of that is expected to change once Epstein is officially in place.

It is not clear if Sandberg could be a new manager or if he would hold a prestigious spot on the Cubs’ coaching staff.

On the other side of town, the Chicago White Sox have been scrambling a bit since Ozzie Guillen was shipped to South Beach before the 2011 season even ended.  He was quickly replaced with former White Sox third baseman Robin Ventura.  Ventura spent 10 years with the White Sox and is very familiar with them, but he lacks experience as a manager.  Guillen was never a warm fuzzy GM with his players or with the media or anyone else for that matter.  Ventura gets the privilege of going in there with a clean slate and all the possibilities in the world.

What we do know, is the 2012 Chicago baseball scene will be very, very different than what is was in 2011, and thank goodness for that!

MLB Ticket Resell Market Picking Up

The Ticket resale market is picking up as all six divisions race for the MLB Pennant.  Currently, there is only one team, the Philadelphia Phillies, who have a lead bigger than three games.  The Phillies lead the Atlanta Braves by three and half games in the National League East.  In the American League, every division leader has a lead of one game or less.  The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals are tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates who are just one game behind the division leaders.  In sum, 17 of the 30 MLB teams are within six and a half games of first place.  Very exciting!

These close races mean that the ticket resale market is getting hotter.  This is a welcome change as the MLB ticket resale market was fairly sluggish previously this year.  10 teams’ resale tickets are selling at a higher price this year than last year, and only 5 of those teams are in the running for the pennant.  The San Francisco Giants are one of those teams.  The Giants entered the All-Star Break with a three game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.  The reigning World Series Champions had a resell price hike of just under 45% from the previous year, the biggest gain this year.

The second place title goes to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who came into the Break with just one game shy of the Texas Rangers in the AL West.  The Angels resell market tickets price has a 41.38% hike from last year.

Other teams that are still in contention for the pennant that had a nice price hike recently include the Rangers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cardinals.

Hot tickets for teams that are no longer in contention for the pennant include the Florida Marlins who have had the biggest boost on the resale market among those who are no longer in the running.

The Phillies and the Red Sox have the longest sell streaks in baseball, so their ticket prices have held steady.  That shouldn’t be surprising.  Their tickets are always popular on the resale market.

Some teams, while they still in the playoff race, their ticket prices are dropping fairly significantly.  Those teams include the Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.  I would expect the Yankees tickets to be hot now that Derek Jeter surpassed the 3,000-hit mark.

The team with the worst drop in the resale market should not come of surprise, the New York Mets.  Their association with Bernie Madoff certainly has damaged the public opinion of the team.
