Top Weekend Events July 15 – 17

Yay Wednesday!

Well, the top thing that stood out to me for this weekend is that those Ontario-ans certainly want to get out of the house this weekend.  Three Ontario events made the top events for this weekend, including the Jimmy Buffett show, Vans Warped Tour and the Taylor Swift show.  The Vans Warped Tour in Mississauga has an impressive lineup including 3oh!3, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Devil Wears Prada, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, Madina Lake, NOFX, A Day to Remember and MANY others.  This is sure to be a really fun concert experience.   Taylor Swift has recovered from her bronchitis last and resumes her Speak Now tour.  Taylor will be playing in Ontario on both Friday and Saturday.  Jimmy Buffett shows up again on this list, unsurprisingly.  His current song with the Zac Brown Band, Knee Deep, is a huge hit on the country music stations at the moment.

Sir Paul McCartney kicks off his five city tour this weekend in the Big Apple.  He plays both Friday and Saturday at Yankee Stadium then moves on to Detroit (Sunday, July 24), Montreal (Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday July 27), Chicago (Sunday, July 31 and Monday, August 1) then concludes in Cincinnati on Thursday, August 4th.   The former Beatles band mate will be playing all his shows in ballparks.  Should be a great time!

Eddie Vedder returns to his roots and the home of grunge music this weekend for a Seattle show.  The lead singer of Pearl Jam has taken his solo tour on the road and is exceptionally popular.

Brad Paisley, NKOTB and O.A.R. come up again on the top weekend list as they are perpetually popular for summertime concerts.

For your sporting news, the LA Galaxy soccer team will host the Spanish soccer superstars the Real Madrid this weekend.  This is the first time since 2007 that the Galaxy will play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as part of the 2011 World Football Challenge.  Of note, Mr. Posh and all around hunk, David Beckham has played for both teams.  This is a rematch of last year’s very exciting match played at the Rose Bowl.

Paul McCartney is Coming to America!

Paul McCartney TicketsPaul McCartney is coming to America! The former Beatles band member has confirmed three event dates in July, all happening at baseball parks.

On Friday, June 17th at 10 AM, tickets will go on sale for his Sunday, July 24th show in Detroit, MI at the Tiger’s stadium, Comerica Park. Tickets will also go on sale the same day for the Cincinnati show at the Red’s Great American Ballpark on August 4th.

Happening at 11 AM on Monday, June 20th, tickets will go on sale for his Sunday, July 31st show at the Chicago Cubs ballpark, Wrigley Field, as well as his Monday, August 1st show. Tickets will also go on sale the same day for his Montreal, QB show which takes place on July 26th.

Last Friday, tickets went on sale for his New York shows taking place at Yankee Stadium on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th.

It has been rumored, but yet to be confirmed that Paul will have a show in Minneapolis, MN on September 1.

Mr. McCartney’s shows in Chicago are kind of a landmark for the city. This will be the first time since 1965 that he performed in a Chicago Stadium, when the Beatles played on a rickety stage set up in front of the center field scoreboard at the White Sox’s Comiskey Park, now Cellular Field. Sir Paul McCartney last played in Chicago in 2005 at the Bulls and Blackhawk’s United Center.

Wrigley Field has recently become a hot spot for fantastic outdoor concerts. In 2005, Jimmy Buffet started the trend. Two years later, The Police performed at the historic ball park. In 2009 Both Elton John/Billy Joel and Rascal Flatts played concerts. Late last summer in 2010, Dave Matthews Band took to the field.

According to the Guinness World Records, Paul McCartney is the most commercially successful songwriter in the history of popular music. The records book also named Sir Paul the “most successful musician and composer in popular music history.” He was a member of The Beatles from 1960-70 and Wings from 1971-81. His talent, business savvy, philanthropy work, and even his most expensive divorce in history are legendary and this man will be known and respected for many more generations to come.

Baseball Stadiums Open Doors for Top 2010 Summer Events

Nothing epitomizes summer more than catching a local baseball game at the ballpark or attending one of the many outdoor music festivals or concerts. However, what is becoming even more popular is melding these two summerime activities. More and more professional baseball teams are opening up their stadiums to host concerts, other sporting events, and even boxing. One of these shows that is generating a lot of buzz is the upcoming Jay Z and Eminem concert that will take place at Yankee Stadium in New York and Comerica Park in Detroit. Tickets haven’t even officially gone on sale but many tickets are already available on the market thanks to some recent presales. Boxing will also return to the Bronx as Yankee Stadium will also host the BIG Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman fight this Saturday June 5th. But it doesn’t stop there- Yankee Stadium will also host the Notre Dame vs Army Football Game. If you live in the Bronx or will be traveling there anytime in 2010 you might want to check out some of the great prices on tickets we have at Free Ticket Classifieds.

Also generating a lot of interest is the anticipated Dave Matthews Band Concert at Wrigley Field. Wrigley Field has been home to sold out Jimmy Buffett, Elton John and Billy Joel concerts, and even the 2009 NHL Winter Classic in recent years and legions of DMB fans will be surely migrating to Wrigleyville this September for this highly anticipated concert. In addition to the DMB concert Wrigley Field will also host a college football game between Northwestern and Illinois this fall. The Northwestern vs Illinois Wrigley Field game will be on November 20th and will be the first football game at Wrigley Field in decades! Other hot baseball stadium summer concerts include the Eagles, Dixie Chicks, and Keith Urban playing at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia on June 14thand the Aerosmith concert at Fenway Park on August 14th in Boston.
